A Executive Summary — the Big Picture

October ended the way it was always going to end once the Fed hiked into a war: the longest-duration assets paid for the inflation, and on Friday the bill moved from the hyperscalers to the semiconductors that supply them. The Nasdaq-100 fell 3.46% to 28,384.85 and entered its third correction of the year; the Composite's −2.86% was its worst session since June 5 and sealed a −6.6% October, the worst month since March 2025. Intel lost 28.6% ($92.07 → $65.76, its worst day since the 1970s) on a Q4 revenue guide of $15–16B against $17.1B and a CFO who sees the PC slowdown running "at least through the first half of next year"; the US government's ~10% stake lost ~$12B in a day. AMD −10.9%, Qualcomm −11.1%, Marvell −10.1%, Micron −5.3%, Nvidia −4.2%, Broadcom −5.5%; SOXX −8.24%. Amazon fell only 1.4% on a $42.4B negative trailing free cash flow because it had already pre-announced the number and lined up an $80B secured borrowing facility for data-centre hardware — the first hyperscaler to finance capex with asset-backed debt is the headline the credit market will read on Monday. The S&P 500 (−1.82% to 7,580.07) is 2.1% below Wednesday's record and still +10.7% YTD; the Dow (−1.09%) finished October +1.7%; XOM and CVX printed record highs on refining margins; General Dynamics rose 1.4% on a record $220.3B backlog and raised guidance. This remains a factor rotation, not a cycle break — but Friday was the day it stopped being orderly: VIX +12.9% to 19.42, equity Fear & Greed 26, Korea's KOSPI −5.4% with a sell-side sidecar, and gold and silver liquidated alongside tech (gold −3.6% to $3,876, silver −5.9% to $49.08) because the same leveraged books own both.

The second event is still unfolding. Binance's $6.3B exploit (TRM: $6.36B across ten chains in ~20 minutes) is now attributed with high confidence to North Korea's TraderTraitor unit by TRM Labs and Chainalysis; Binance has frozen ~$3B (Tether $1.567B, Circle $0.80B), found "additional points of breach" beyond the engineer's laptop, reserved $6.34B of company funds for asset replacement, and targets a withdrawal restart within ~45 hours — Sunday. Bitcoin printed $76,368, its lowest since September 18, and closed the week −8%; $1.57B was liquidated; Aave froze lending on 16 networks after the exploiter borrowed against stolen USDT. The desk's read is unchanged: the solvency question is answerable (net loss after freezes ≈ $3.3B against ~$144B of assets, and the company has reserved the gross figure), the structural question — whether a top-two exchange can reopen withdrawals on Sunday without a run — is not, and the weekend is the test. The US ETF channel took in $17.2M on Thursday, its fourth straight inflow day, priced before the theft; Friday's row is the first that will carry the hack, and it is unpublished at compile.

Cycle and regime. Late-cycle, nominal-growth-led, now with a confirmed de-rating of the growth engine's capex. The regime is overheat with a supply shock on top: real GDP 3.4%, nominal 5.6%, PCE 3.6% / core 3.1%, Brent $113–118, Chicago PMI prices-paid at a December-2021 high, a Fed hiking (December ~72%) and three regional presidents on Friday saying the direction is up. The bond market's response to the equity sell-off was a rally in the belly — 5Y −7.9bp, 10Y −5.9bp to 4.930%, the 10Y −37bp in October, the largest monthly decline since December 2023 — which is a flight-to-quality bid and a growth doubt, not a reassessment of the Fed. The 30Y fell 1.8bp: the long end is holding its term premium into Wednesday's refunding. The All-Weather quadrant is still Rising Growth / Rising Inflation; the trend toward Falling Growth / Rising Inflation strengthened on Friday because the equity market is now pricing the capex cycle as a liability, and Q3's 3.4% was built on inventories (+1.61pp) and federal war spending (+0.90pp), not on real consumption (0.0% m/m).

Beautiful deleveraging — policy adequacy. Monetary policy is coherent with the data and increasingly explicit: Musalem wants a hike "soon" in smaller increments, Logan wants "at least two more quarter-point hikes" and then a pause, Barkin calls the direction "straightforward" and debates only the pace; the market has moved the other way (Dec 72% from 84%+) because the equity tape is doing the tightening. That divergence is the November risk — a Fed that hikes into a correcting Nasdaq is the 2022 analogue. Fiscal remains the incoherent leg: a $47.1B war with no appropriation, a supplemental deferred to the lame duck, a December 11 CR expiry, a 93%-probability Democratic House and a refunding on Wednesday that dealers expect to keep coupon sizes unchanged while the deficit runs at 6.1% of GDP. The BoJ held at 1.25% with a hawkish dissent for 1.50%, raised its inflation outlook and voted to accelerate ETF sales — the third major central bank to tighten its communication in a week in which the three largest equity markets in Asia fell 2–5%.

Great-power frame. Washington is running strikes and talks on the same clock: Qatar carried the US-edited draft back to Tehran on Friday, Trump said the war "is going to end soon," and the NYT reports joint US–Israeli strike plans for after November 3 with CENTCOM's Cooper having briefed the President on options; ten US military cargo flights landed at Ovda and Nevatim on Thursday. Tehran is running the clock to November 4: Araghchi "continues to give diplomacy a chance," a senior official calls Qatar's nuclear language "unacceptable," and the IRGC spent Friday laying mines and claiming a second captured US drone. Beijing is the quiet beneficiary of a Korean chip crash and a hung Israeli Knesset; Moscow is positioned as the nuclear-file broker. Risks: Binance fails to reopen on Sunday; Apple (Monday) and Tuesday's midterm result reset the tape before the refunding; a confirmed Saudi export-capacity loss with Brent already at a six-month high. Opportunities: the belly of the curve is now pricing a growth scare the Fed does not share — the 2s10s bull-steepener is the asymmetric expression; gold at $3,876 is 15% below its 200-day with managed money already down to 324t and the ETF channel the only seller left; a BTC flush through the $75.8k STH cost basis with the ETF bid intact and the exchange reopened would be the cleanest positioning reset of the year.

C Cross-Asset Analysis — Druckenmiller Lens

What the bond market is saying vs. equities

Friday's curve is a growth scare, not a Fed scare. The 5Y led (−7.9bp to 4.723%), the 10Y followed (−5.9bp to 4.930%), the 2Y fell 6.4bp to 4.592% and the 30Y barely moved (−1.8bp to 5.311%). The belly rallies when the market thinks the Fed is about to make a mistake, and with the Nasdaq-100 in correction, Intel guiding $2B light, Reddit guiding Q4 down and Chicago PMI's new-orders fading while prices paid hit a five-year high, the market is now pricing the possibility that the December hike lands on an economy that is already decelerating under the surface. The Fed does not share the doubt: Musalem, Logan and Barkin all said on Friday that rates go up, and only the pace is open. That is the tension for November — the futures strip has December at ~72% and the FOMC's own communicants have it closer to 90%. Equities read the week as a repricing of AI capex that is now spreading from the spenders (GOOGL, AMZN) to the suppliers (INTC, AMD, QCOM, MRVL, MU) to the regional chains (Samsung, SK Hynix, Kioxia, SoftBank). The 30Y's refusal to rally on a −2.9% Nasdaq is the number to respect: term premium is being held for Wednesday's refunding, and a bond that will not rally in a flight to quality is a bond that is pricing fiscal supply over cyclical demand.

Risk assets vs. safe havens — the divergence

No haven worked on Friday except the belly of the Treasury curve. Gold −3.6% to $3,876 and silver −5.9% to $49.08 on a day the Nasdaq fell 2.9% and the dollar fell 0.2% — the metals were sold to fund tech losses (TD's Melek: trend-followers testing long-term support in both; Comex volume ~18M oz gold / 236M oz silver by midday) and to re-mark the real policy rate on three hawkish Fed speeches. Platinum −4% and palladium −3.1% confirm it was a liquidation, not a view. The dollar fell with yields: DXY 101.82 is on a three-day slide since the Fed declined to guide, and it did not catch a bid on a −3.5% NDX, which says foreign money is not repatriating into the dollar through this correction — it is going into Bunds (German CPI 2.8%, below forecast) and the Hang Seng (+1.2% on a yuan near four-year highs). Bitcoin was sold on an exchange hack and then held $76.4k through the equity close; it did not act as a haven and it did not act as a tech proxy — it traded its own plumbing. Credit is the haven that is quietly confirming the cycle: HY and IG spreads were not reported wider on a −1.8% S&P day, and Amazon put an $80B secured facility in place at the same time its equity was being de-rated. When the equity market and the credit market disagree about the same balance sheet, the trade is in credit volatility, not in the index.

Liquidity conditions

Global liquidity is contracting at the policy margin and leaking at the exchange margin. The Fed's balance sheet is $6,754B with the balance-sheet review deferred to Q1 2027; SOFR–EFFR remains a few basis points, so funding is not stressed, but the Treasury is draining reserves into Wednesday's refunding and the 2s10s bull-steepener says the front end is already pricing the drain. Crypto liquidity is the acute problem: $297.3B of stablecoins (−1.2% on the week, −2.2% on the month) with ~$3B immobilised by freezes, a top-two exchange with deposits and withdrawals halted for 48+ hours, Aave markets frozen on 16 chains, open interest −3% to $136.3B and volumes +74% — the leverage is being wrung out through forced liquidation rather than voluntary de-grossing. The Japanese channel tightened too: the BoJ held but voted unanimously to accelerate ETF sales and raised its inflation outlook — Tokyo is becoming a seller of equities just as the Nikkei posts a three-month low. The one expanding channel is US fiscal (federal spending +15.8% saar in Q3) and Chinese policy (record PBoC injections, national-team ETF buying), which is why the Hang Seng was the only major Asian index up on a day Korea fell 5.4%.

Dollar implications

A weaker dollar that does not come with lower real rates is the configuration that helps nobody in EM and helps Europe only on a relative basis. DXY −0.21% with gold −3.6% and EM equities −1 to −5% is a dollar falling on Fed opacity, not on Fed easing: Korea's won firmed while the KOSPI crashed, Brazil and Mexico get no relief from a 4.93% 10Y, and the yuan's strength into APEC is PBoC-managed, not flow-driven. For oil, the dollar is irrelevant — Brent's $20 war premium over JPM's $94 fair value is a Hormuz number. For gold, the dollar is being overwhelmed by real yields and positioning: gold/DXY is at a post-war low and the ETF channel (GLD −14.3t on the week, −$2.1B) is the marginal seller. For Bitcoin, the dollar does not matter until Binance reopens. The yen at 157.6 after a hawkish BoJ hold with a dissent for 1.50% is the cross to watch: a USD/JPY break below 155 on the back of ETF-sale acceleration would be the first real yen-funded de-leveraging of the AI trade, and Friday's Nikkei −2.1% / SoftBank −6% is the preview.

D Scenario Matrix — All Weather Framework

Desk probabilities for the next two quarters; previous day in brackets. The current quadrant is marked ★; the trend quadrant ◄. Asset pricing is the desk's, conditional on each quadrant.

Rising Growth + Rising Inflation — Overheat / Reflation ★ CURRENT

40% [45%]

GDP 3.4%, nominal 5.6%, PCE 3.6%, claims 194k, Brent $113–118, federal spending +15.8%, Chicago prices-paid at a 2021 high. The Fed hikes in December; the curve bull-steepens as the front end caps and the long end holds term premium. Pricing: 10Y 4.85–5.15%, 30Y 5.25–5.45%; S&P 7,400–7,750 with equal-weight > cap-weight; Financials, Energy, Health Care, Industrials lead; gold $3,800–4,100 (capped by real yields); silver $46–53; Brent $105–120; DXY 101–103; BTC $74–84k.

Falling Growth + Rising Inflation — Supply-shock Stagflation ◄ TREND

32% [30%]

Friday moved the weight here: Nasdaq-100 in correction, Intel "PC slowdown through 1H27," Reddit and Roblox guiding down, Chicago PMI new orders fading with prices paid at a five-year high, real spending 0.0% m/m, saving rate 3.8%, the 5Y rallying 8bp into three hawkish Fed speeches. Trigger: a sub-50k Oct NFP (Nov 6) with 3.6% PCE, or a confirmed Saudi export loss with the Fed still hiking. Pricing: 2s10s bear-steepens to +45bp as the long end refuses to rally; S&P 7,000–7,300; Energy, Staples, Utilities; gold recovers to $4,200+ once the hiking path breaks; Brent $120–140; DXY 103–105; BTC $65–74k; HY +80bp.

Rising Growth + Falling Inflation — Goldilocks

15% [15%]

Requires Hormuz: an Iranian "yes" to the Qatar-carried draft this weekend, a Vance-led round next week and a Brent print in the $90s. Gasoline is already falling m/m; a reopening takes headline PCE toward 3% by Q1 and removes March from the Fed path; AI capex gets re-financed at lower rates and the semis V-bottom. Pricing: 10Y 4.60–4.80%; S&P 7,800–8,100 led by Airlines, Discretionary, Semis; gold ambiguous ($3,800–4,000); Brent $88–95; DXY 99–101; BTC $85–92k via the liquidity channel.

Falling Growth + Falling Inflation — Deflationary Bust

13% [10%]

The AI-credit channel plus an exchange failure: Amazon's $80B secured hardware facility is the first asset-backed capex financing by a hyperscaler; Intel's government stake lost $12B in a day; Oracle and CoreWeave CDS already stressed. Add a Binance that cannot reopen on Sunday, forcing collateral sales across $136B of open interest. Pricing: 10Y 4.20–4.50% (bull-flattening); S&P 6,700–7,000; Treasuries and (eventually) gold the only havens; Brent $85 on demand; DXY 104+; BTC $55–65k; HY 500bp.

Assessment. Still Overheat, but the mix shifted 5 points out of it — 2 to Stagflation and 3 to Bust — because Friday supplied evidence for both neighbours and none for Goldilocks: the capex de-rating reached the supply chain (Stagflation/Bust), the belly of the curve rallied into hawkish Fed talk (growth doubt), and the Binance halt extended to a third day (Bust tail). The equity factor rotation (cash-generators over capex-spenders) remains correct in three of four quadrants, but on Friday it stopped being a rotation and became a liquidation — equal-weight fell with cap-weight, gold fell with semis. The desk's rule for a liquidation day is to reduce gross, not to add to the factor. The two binaries that re-weight the matrix are external to the data: Iran's reply to Qatar (this weekend) and Tuesday's midterm result.

E Sector & Theme Spotlight

Inflection Semiconductors — the AI trade's supply chain breaks SOXX −8.24% · SMH −6.98% · KOSPI −5.4%

Thursday's "first down day" in memory became Friday's crash: Intel −28.6% (Q4 guide $15–16B vs $17.1B; EPS $0.25 vs $0.43; fab explosion in Israel costs ~$600M over two quarters; D.A. Davidson to Neutral), AMD −10.9% to $504.80, Qualcomm −11.1%, Marvell −10.1%, Coherent −11.3%, Lumentum −8.6%, Arista −8.3%, Micron −5.3% to $884.74, Nvidia −4.2% to $204.64, Broadcom −5.5%, Sandisk −13.5% despite a beat and an 8-for-1 split, Dell −10.8%, Nebius −10.4%. Korea: Samsung −5%, SK Hynix −8%, sell-side sidecar triggered at 10:04 KST, foreigners net sellers of ₩554B; Japan: Kioxia −7%, SoftBank −6%, Nikkei −2.1%. The chip ETFs gave back most of a month's gains in a day. The narrative moved from "hyperscalers spend too much" to "the spend may slow" — and memory, whose revenue is contracted to 2029, fell as hard as Intel, whose revenue is not. Second-level: when the contracted and the uncontracted fall together, the market is selling the factor, not the fundamentals; that is where the eventual reversal starts. Truist sees 2–8% further downside in tech; the desk's level is NDX 27,500 (the August breakout) before it is a buy.

Momentum Energy majors — refining is the new upstream XOM $187.25 +2.16% · CVX $235.52 +1.75% · both at records

Exxon: adjusted EPS $4.23 vs $4.08, revenue $113.2B vs $103.1B, dividend raised to $1.07, $20B of 2027 buybacks, refining now contributing more than upstream. Chevron: EPS $5.28 vs $4.89, revenue $67.8B vs $61.6B, record US refinery throughput 1.09 mb/d. With WTI +15.2% in October, diesel at $6.33 and the crack still wide, the integrateds are the cleanest expression of the war that does not depend on the index. The risk is binary and dated: an Iranian "yes" this weekend takes $15–20 out of Brent and the majors give back 5–8% in a session. Hold the position through Tuesday with a collar, not naked.

Momentum Defence primes — the backlog is the asset, the appropriator is the risk GD $376.06 +1.41%

General Dynamics: EPS $4.49 vs $4.13, revenue $14.57B (+12.9%) vs $13.73B, record backlog $220.3B (roughly double a year ago; $42.1B for nine Block VI Virginia-class, $29.5B for five Columbia-class), FY EPS guide raised to $17.20–17.30, Marine book-to-bill 17.5. Novakovic's last call hands Danny Deep the largest submarine order book in the company's history. The sector still prices the 93%-probability Democratic House rather than the $47.1B war; GD's beat on a −1.8% S&P day says the shipbuilding multiyears are beginning to be valued as the duration asset they are. LMT/RTX/NOC/BA Friday closes: GAP. Second-level: a Democratic House cuts the supplemental, not the submarines.

Contrarian Gold miners and silver below $50 — Howard Marks second-level NEM −5% · AEM −6.7% · Kinross −7.7% · Hecla −6% · G/S 79

First-level: gold is falling because the Fed is hiking into 3.1% core PCE and Asian physical demand is subdued. Second-level: the top five North American gold producers have lost ~$140B from their 52-week highs; Kinross is −17% in October and at a 52-week low; managed-money gold is 324t net long, the lowest since May; GLD has lost 27t YTD and $4.0B; the WGC's ETF series ended 13 straight weeks of inflows two weeks ago; Commerzbank calls the decline "exaggerated." Friday's −3.6% was leveraged liquidation alongside tech (Melek), not a change in the official-sector bid (PBoC 23 straight months). Silver at $49.08 has the structural Dec-contract flag (open interest ~4x registered) 20 days from first notice, the Shanghai premium at a six-month low and Saxo's Hansen pointing to the mid-$40s as the capitulation zone. The contrarian long is in the producers with net cash (AEM, FNV) once gold holds $3,850 for two sessions — the metal first, the miners second, silver last. Against: a hawkish NFP on Friday with the 10Y back above 5% sends gold to $3,700 and silver to $45 before any of this matters.

Theme AI capex credit — Amazon's $80B secured facility AMZN $240.35 −1.41% · TTM FCF −$42.4B

Amazon set up an up-to-$80B secured borrowing facility for data-centre hardware, available 2027 through Q3 2028 — asset-backed financing of GPUs is a new instrument for a AAA-adjacent name and the first explicit admission that hyperscaler capex will be funded off balance sheet. Alphabet's long-term debt went from $21.6B to $125B in a year; Intel's $12B of lost government equity in one session is the taxpayer's first mark on the strategy. If equity is right about the de-rating, the next move is in the financing complex (Oracle, CoreWeave, SoftBank, the private-credit GPU lenders); if credit is right, Friday was the capitulation. The asymmetric trade remains owning protection on the AI-financing names, not shorting the index.

F Crypto Deep Dive

Binance exploit — state of play at 00:10 UTC Saturday. TRM Labs: ~$6.36B moved out of Binance wallets across ten blockchains in ~20 minutes late Thursday; the previous record was Bybit's $1.5B (Feb 2025). Attribution: TRM "with high confidence" and Chainalysis both name TraderTraitor, the North Korean unit under Lazarus; Binance co-CEO Teng: "our investigation has not attributed responsibility to any individual." Binance first pointed to a compromised engineer's laptop, then said Friday it found "additional points of breach"; it maintains no private key leaked, while Mark Karpelès told Reuters attackers probably had keys for at least two wallets. Frozen: ~$3B, of which Tether $1.567B and Circle $0.80B; the remaining ~$3.3B is unaccounted for. Binance reserved more than $6.34B of company funds for asset replacement, says it will cover all losses, and targets a withdrawal restart within ~45 hours — Sunday. SAFU ($1B, all BTC) covers less than a sixth of the gross. Spillover: Aave froze lending on 16 networks after the exploiter borrowed ~$44.6M of ETH against stolen USDT; UNI and AAVE −11% Thursday; tokens the hacker dumped (ENA +8.4%, PEPE +7.3%) rebounded Friday. BNB −6% ($695–716) with negative funding and sell-side volume dominant. Desk read: the gross loss is covered on paper; the test is Sunday's reopening — a halt that extends past Monday, a SAFU drawdown, or BNB below $650 converts an exploit into a run.

BTC $76,700 · −2.7% (Yahoo) / −5.2% (24h to the overnight low) · low $76,368 — lowest since Sep 18 · 7d −8% · YTD −12% · −39% from ATH. Map: ETF cost basis $81.5k (lost Oct 29), True Market Mean $77.9k (lost), densest STH cluster ~$77k (holding), STH cost basis $75.8k (next), 100-day EMA $77.8k (lost), scenario-matrix floor $74k. Funding positive and rising — longs still paying; OI −1.4%. Options: five of the six highest-volume BTC contracts are puts, the $74,000 Nov 13 put leads; 25-delta skew rose across tenors. Deribit's Friday expiry cleared 135,000 BTC options (~$10.9B) with max pain $78k — the pin held until it did not.

ETH $2,225 · −4.1% · low $2,170–2,178 (two-month low) · ETH/BTC 0.0286 (cycle low) · ETH OI −5.8%, funding positive but falling · the $2,000 Nov 13 put has twice the volume of any other ETH option · ETH ETFs: net assets $14.57B, October outflow −$1.08B (SoSoValue) to −$1.35B (Farside); Thursday/Friday rows GAP. ETH is the hack's second-order victim: ~$0.9B of the attacker's wallet is ETH and the Aave loan is the on-chain leak. No ETF cost-basis floor exists for ETH the way it does for BTC.

Market structure Total cap $2.62T (−3.7%) · BTC dominance 59.0% · liquidations $1.57B in 24h (4x; BTC $522M, ETH $361M; $628M in the first hour) · futures volume +74% to $346.1B · OI −3% to $136.3B · SOL OI −13.3% with negative funding · HYPE +15%, OI +28% (the venue that gained from Binance's halt) · F&G 29–36 (from 51) · alt-season index 45 (from 54) · stablecoins $297.3B (−0.16% 24h, −1.21% 7d, −2.22% 30d); USDT ~$180.3B, 60.6% share; ~$3B frozen but still in circulating supply.

ETF flows & institutional

Thursday (final, Farside): +$17.2M — IBIT +$12.8M, FBTC +$10.5M, MSBT +$4.2M, Grayscale BTC mini −$15.3M, BTCW −$3.8M; fourth straight inflow day; four-session total +$440.8M, 93% of it IBIT (+$410.6M); cumulative $57.4–57.6B. The print was priced at Thursday's 4pm close, before the theft. Friday's row is unpublished at compile and is the first post-hack number; a negative print would be the first since October 23 and would end the sequence that took October positive. 30-day flow to Oct 26 was −$254.7M with IBIT +$961.9M and FBTC −$725M — one channel buying, the rest selling. Crypto equities took the hit instead: COIN −10.6% to $143.54 (unaffected by the breach, said so, fell anyway), HOOD −7.2% to $84.99, MSTR and CRCL −6%+ pre-market. Strategy's Q3 (reported Wednesday) remains the reference: 848,517 BTC at $75,446 average — at $76.7k the unrealised gain is ≈$1.1B, down from $4.9B a week ago, and the board holds authority to sell up to $1.25B for the USD reserve. CME COT: GAP (CFTC publication Friday afternoon; semiweekly transition). EDGAR: no 13G/13D on IBIT; Q3 13Fs due Nov 16.

Regulatory landscape

The exploit lands on an agency-run regulatory map: CLARITY is dead for this Congress, CFTC's crypto market rulemaking is at OIRA, the SEC's Reg Crypto Assets comment period closed Oct 20, the OCC finalised the GENIUS Act rule and approved Ripple's national trust bank, and the CFTC's 24/7 trading roundtable is Dec 15. The first question from every regulator on Monday is custody segregation and proof-of-reserves cadence for an exchange whose hot-wallet signing could be hijacked via EIP-7702 delegation. The DPRK attribution converts a market-structure story into a national-security one: expect OFAC/FinCEN action on the laundering rails within days, and a renewed push for the stablecoin issuers' freeze powers (which just immobilised $2.37B in hours) to become a statutory expectation. The EU's MiCA auto-conversion of non-compliant stablecoins (Coinbase, from Friday) will distort next week's USDT→USDC read. Thailand's Supreme Court property ruling and Hong Kong's tokenised-fund secondary approval stand as the week's constructive sovereign moves.

War impact on crypto

Digital gold or tech proxy? The week settled it by elimination: Bitcoin rallied on Thursday's GDP print with Nasdaq futures (risk asset), ignored the mines, the Houthis, the Vance letter and Trump's "end soon" (beta to the war ≈ 0), fell 5% on an exchange hack (idiosyncratic), and then held $76.4k through a −3.5% NDX session on Friday (not a tech proxy either). Gold fell 3.6% on the same session. Over the conflict (from Feb 28) BTC is +20% from its war-day low while gold is −31% from its January record — Bitcoin has outperformed gold through the war because it is a liquidity asset and gold has become a real-rate asset; neither is a haven in a Fed-hiking war. ETF flows by phase: strike-window open Oct 22–24 −$773.5M; window closed Oct 26–29 +$440.8M; hack Oct 30 GAP. Stablecoins as capital flight: $297.3B, −$3.6B on the week — contraction, not flight; Iranian USDT volumes −94% since Tether's 2026 freezes (~$550M); 84% of 846 sanctioned Iran-linked wallets used USDT (PSI); no new OFAC crypto designation this week. Country-level adoption: Iranian domestic usage ~2x pre-war (Chainalysis); rial at ~274,000 toman/USD open-market (+1.3% d/d) — the currency, not the token, is the sanctions barometer. Mining: hash rate ~1,063 EH/s near record after a +5.54% difficulty adjustment; hashprice ≈$33/PH/day against JPM's ~$85k all-in production cost — miners are under water at the margin, which is a forced-seller channel if BTC loses $75k. DeFi: TVL $87.7B (DefiLlama; flagged series change) before Aave's 16-network freeze; expect a −5–8% TVL print on Monday from the Aave pause alone.

China / Russia crypto angle

The DPRK attribution is the week's state-actor data point: a $6.3B theft is more than North Korea's entire 2025 haul and roughly the cost of a year of its missile programme. Russia: FinCEN's Section 311 action against A7 sub-agents remains the US response to the Rosneft–A7 USDT oil-settlement rail; A7A5 volume −96%; the A7 USDT-to-bank service launched Oct 13 regardless. mBridge/e-CNY cross-border volumes: GAP. The Iran–Russia–China rail runs through Moscow's offer (Peskov) to take custody of Iran's HEU and mediate — the nuclear file is becoming a three-party negotiation, which is worth more to Tehran than any token channel. The yuan near a four-year high with the PBoC fix leaning against it remains the de-dollarisation data point: managed appreciation into APEC, not a flight from the dollar.

G Conviction Views & Trade Ideas

HIGH Reduce gross into the weekend; re-enter equal-weight / cash-generators vs. the AI-capex complex only after Apple (Mon) and the midterm (Tue)

Thesis: the rotation thesis (RSP/XMAG over MAGS/NDX) is intact across three of four quadrants, but Friday was a liquidation — equal-weight fell with cap-weight, gold with semis, Korea with Nasdaq. Liquidations are not rotated through; they are waited out. The three events that re-set the tape are Apple's print (Monday after the close; revenue ~$113.4B, EPS $1.98; the only $5T stock, −1.2% Friday), Tuesday's midterm (Dems 93% House / 69% Senate; the binary is the Senate), and Wednesday's refunding. Risk/reward: flat gross costs nothing; re-entering the spread after the three binaries at NDX 27,500–28,000 offers 3:1 to the 2023 relationship. Levels: S&P 7,500 (Oct 22 low) is the line — a close below it turns the correction into a 10% event with 7,000 the target; NDX 27,500 (August breakout) is the semis re-entry; SOXX −8% in a day historically mean-reverts 3–4% within five sessions — fade the Monday bounce, do not chase it. Invalidation: Apple guides down and the Senate flips — then the Bust quadrant is 20%+ and the spread is the wrong trade.

HIGH Stay out of Bitcoin until Binance reopens; pre-set bids at $75.8k (STH cost basis) and $74k — conditional on withdrawals resuming Sunday and Friday's ETF row ≥ flat

Thesis: unchanged from Thursday and reinforced: the hack is solvency-answerable and structure-unanswerable until the exchange reopens. BTC held $76.4k through a −3.5% NDX, the ETF channel bought four straight days into the event, and the $74k Nov 13 put is the most-traded contract — the market has pre-positioned for the flush. Trigger to buy: Binance withdrawals resume Sunday without a queue + Friday/Monday ETF prints ≥ flat + the Deribit basis compresses below 4%. Trigger to stay out: halt extends past Monday, SAFU drawn, BNB < $650, or Friday's ETF row < −$300M. Risk/reward: entry $74–76k, stop $71.5k, target $84–86k (ETF basis reclaim) — ~2.5:1. Levels: $77.9k TMM is resistance now; $75.8k / $74k / $72k (June low area) are the bids.

MEDIUM Long 2s10s / 5s30s steepener into the refunding; fade a 10Y below 4.85% before the 10Y/30Y auctions (Nov 10/12)

Thesis: Friday's bull-steepener (belly −8bp, bond −2bp) is the market pricing a Fed mistake while the Fed prices more hikes. Either the Fed is right and the front end re-sells (steepener flat, long end unchanged), or the market is right and the Fed pauses into a growth scare (front end rallies hard, long end still held by supply) — the steepener wins both; it loses only in Goldilocks (Hormuz deal) where the long end rallies on a lower inflation path. Risk/reward: 5s30s +59bp (widest of the cycle) → +75bp target, −10bp stop; 3:1 over four weeks. Levels: 10Y 4.85% is where the flight-to-quality bid has been faded twice in October; 30Y 5.25% / 5.45% brackets the refunding reaction. The Nov 4 statement repeating "unchanged for at least the next several quarters" is the neutral outcome; any hint of larger coupons or smaller buybacks is a bear-steepener and the K3 count rises.

MEDIUM Collared long energy majors (XOM/CVX) through the Iran binary; short Brent $130 calls against it

Thesis: the integrateds printed records on refining margins that persist even if crude falls $10; the binary (Iranian reply this weekend; strikes after Nov 3) is symmetric for crude and asymmetric for the majors (a deal costs 5–8%, a strike adds 3–5% because the refining crack narrows on demand fear). Risk/reward: 1.5:1 outright, 2.5:1 with a 5% collar funded by selling Brent $130 Dec calls (a Saudi export-loss scenario is the one where both legs lose — size for it). Levels: Brent $108 (Oct 24 low) / $118 (Dec expiry); WTI $100 psychological.

LOW Gold: scale into $3,800–3,850 with a $3,700 stop; miners only after the metal holds for two sessions

Thesis: the sellers left are the ETF channel and trend-followers (managed money 324t, lowest since May); official-sector buying continues; the worst October since 2008 is a liquidation signature. The catalyst is not the Fed — it is the NFP on Friday: a weak print ends the hiking path and gold's real-rate penalty with it. Risk/reward: 2:1 to $4,100 with a $3,700 stop; low conviction because the Fed's three speakers on Friday said the opposite and Saxo's mid-$40s silver call implies one more leg. Silver is not the trade yet — $46–47 is.

H Risk Radar

Top 3 tail risks

1 · Binance fails to reopen

Sunday

A halt past Monday, a SAFU drawdown or a wider breach disclosure converts a $6.3B exploit into a run on a ~$144B balance sheet. Transmission: BNB < $650 → basis trades funded on Binance (~420k BTC OI) unwind → BTC $70k → COIN/MSTR/CRCL → the AI-capex names that share the same leveraged owners. Probability of a disorderly reopening: 20%.

2 · Post-midterm strike with Brent at a six-month high

Nov 4–30

NYT: joint US–Israeli plans; ten cargo flights into the Negev; Patriot shipped; troops moved off vulnerable bases; options executable within 96 hours. A strike with Brent already $113–118 and a Houthi salvo that lands on Ras Tanura or Abqaiq is the Stagflation quadrant realised: Brent $130+, CPI re-accelerating, the Fed hiking anyway, the 30Y > 5.50%. Probability of US strikes within 30 days of Nov 3: 55%.

3 · The AI de-rating becomes a credit event

Intel's government stake −$12B in a day; Amazon's $80B secured GPU facility; Alphabet's $125B of LT debt; Oracle/CoreWeave CDS. If Apple guides down on Monday and the semis fail to bounce, the AI-financing complex (private-credit GPU lenders, SoftBank) is the next marked-to-market. Probability of HY +100bp by year-end: 25%.

What would change the base case

To Goldilocks: an Iranian acceptance of the Qatar-carried draft this weekend (the "indications of progress" source) followed by a Vance-led round next week and a Brent print below $100 — gasoline follows within three weeks, headline PCE drops toward 3% by Q1, December is a close call, the semis V-bottom. To Stagflation: an Oct NFP below +25k with 3.6% PCE and Chicago prices-paid confirmed by ISM — or a confirmed Saudi export loss. To Bust: Binance does not reopen; Apple guides down; the refunding surprises on coupon size and the 30Y clears 5.50% with the Nasdaq in correction. Watch: the Senate outcome Tuesday (a Democratic Senate is 69% priced; a Republican hold is the upside surprise for defence and the downside surprise for the deficit path).

Black swans — peripheral vision

A second exchange (OKX, Bybit, Kraken) disclosing a TraderTraitor compromise using the same EIP-7702 technique. A Taiwan opportunistic move while CENTCOM holds two-to-three carriers and the PLA is mid-purge (Fujian's first Strait transit this week). A Russian second front in the Baltic with Europe's gas at €100. A US sovereign rating action after a refunding that shows FY27 borrowing rising with a 6.1%-of-GDP deficit and a war supplemental unfunded. An Israeli minority government that cannot authorise the post-midterm campaign — or one that acts without authorisation. A Houthi hit on a loaded VLCC inside the Gulf with Russian targeting data, confirmed by satellite.

I Week Ahead Calendar

Sat Oct 31	China official PMIs (Oct) · Binance investigation updates · Iranian reply to Qatar's edited draft expected "by the weekend"	The Iranian reply is the only weekend input that moves Monday's open; a "yes with conditions" is Goldilocks' first real step, a "no" leaves the post-Nov 3 window live.
Sun Nov 1	Binance targeted withdrawal restart (~45h from Friday) · PGSA "legal action" against Sinokor vessels begins · OPEC+ core-7 meeting (December targets expected unchanged)	Sunday's reopening is the crypto binary. Watch BNB, the Deribit basis and whether Asia-hours BTC holds $76k.

Manipulation-signal read. The Q4'25–Q1'26 pattern (Jane Street ⚠ +~50,000%, Susquehanna +470%, Citadel new) coincided with the run to $121.67; the Q1–Q2 exits coincided with the fall to $54; Friday's break of $50 happened with the fast money already out of shares and in options and managed money at a 2.9%-of-OI net long. That is the signature of a market without a marginal buyer, not of a market being pushed: the holders still adding (MS, Goldman, JPM) are wealth and bank channels that do not chase; the sellers of record are gone. The structural flag remains the December contract at ~4.3x registered with ~20 days to first notice — a mass roll is now more likely than a delivery squeeze, because the price has fallen through the level at which shorts need to cover. The test is Friday's COT (published late Friday; GAP): a managed-money net short would be the first since 2020 and historically the capitulation marker. Thursday's zero creation on a −3% day followed by a −5.9% Friday says the retail bid stepped back at $52 and did not return at $50.

Central banks — the de-dollarisation leading indicator. PBoC +23t in September (largest since Oct 2023), Q3 +63t, YTD ~103t, 2,410t = 8.5% of reserves, 23rd straight month; October data Nov 7. Chinese gold ETFs at a record 304t. CBR −6.2t in September (tenth straight month of sales; Russia monetising reserves into China). Poland +8t (YTD 98t; 648t vs 700t target), Uzbekistan +8t, Kazakhstan +7t, Czech +2t (42nd month), Turkey +3t. Swiss exports: 126t to the UK in September — metal flowing to London vaults for ETF/OTC redemption, not to Asian jewellers. The official sector is a net buyer at the margin, Russia sells to China, the Western ETF channel is the seller, and price follows the ETF channel: gold −7.2% in October, the worst October since 2008, with the Comex December contract at $3,907.90. The WGC Q3 Gold Demand Trends (due this coming week) will show the record ETF quarter that preceded the turn.

US forces in theater 2 CSGs + 1–2 ARGs · >50,000 troops · ~20 warships. USS George H.W. Bush (CSG-10) enforcing the blockade, AIS dark, deployment day 212+ [C]; USS George Washington (CSG-5) in CENTCOM [C]; USS Theodore Roosevelt (CSG-9) ended Keen Sword 27 on Oct 29, reportedly bound for CENTCOM via Malacca, arrival "by end of November" [S]; Makin Island ARG / 13th MEU (~4,000) departed Yokosuka Oct 26, arrival "likely November" [S]; Boxer ARG / 11th MEU in the Arabian Sea since July [S]. Surface: ~10 DDGs + ESB Arabian Sea, 3 DDG + CG Indian Ocean, 2 DDG Red Sea. New this week: ten US military cargo aircraft landed at Ovda and Nevatim on Thursday, with more to Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar (Kan) [S]; WSJ: air defences and munitions boosted, troops moved off bases vulnerable to retaliation [S]; NYT: joint US–Israeli strike plans for after Nov 3 [S]; CENTCOM's Adm. Cooper briefed Trump on renewed-attack options (WSJ) [S]; options executable within 96 hours (CNN) [C]. Sen. Murphy, briefed: "insane" [C]. Hegseth fired Joint Staff J5 Lt Gen Sylvia over an alleged leak [C]. Casualties: 23 deaths (two airmen added Oct 30, one illness, one under investigation) [C]. ~65% of Patriot interceptor stock expended [S]. State Dept ordered departure from Saudi Arabia Oct 27 [C].

Iranian / proxy forces Hormuz: PortWatch 2 transits Oct 25 vs 85/day baseline (2% of pre-crisis; AIS-only) [C]; 85 AIS-visible vessels holding off berth in the watch box (straits.live, 21:00 UTC) [S]; 48 sanctioned vessels seen in the Gulf in 12 hours [S]; war-risk cover ~32x pre-crisis (straits.live est., Oct 7) [S]. Incidents Oct 29–30: IRGC claims three, then four, tankers struck mines on the "unauthorised southern route" [CL]; UKMTO: tanker struck by a projectile exiting the strait, no injuries [C]; a tanker with 27 Indian crew hit by limpet mines attached by a small boat — UKMTO: not a projectile; India: all crew safe [C]; IRGC: two tankers halted after "incidents" [CL]; IRGC claims a second US drone captured intact near Qeshm [CL]; three sanctioned Iran-linked tankers went dark over Gulf of Oman cable corridors [S]. Houthis: six claimed operations Oct 29 (Ras Tanura, Abqaiq, Rabigh, Riyadh KKIA, Dammam, Najran); coalition intercepted three BMs, no damage reported [C]; Oct 30: coalition destroyed a Houthi drone over the Mecca region; Houthis deny targeting Saudi Arabia beyond oil and military sites [C]. Hezbollah's Qassem: "no room to discuss disarmament" [C]. Rial ~274,000 toman/USD open market (+1.3% d/d) [S]. Seven conditions (Ghalibaf): sanctions relief, end of the port blockade, guarantees against strikes, unfrozen assets — "the carrot-and-stick approach has no effect on Iran" [C].

US advantages Air/naval superiority confirmed by >3,000 escorted transits since summer and Iranian seaborne crude exports at zero since mid-September; a 5.6% nominal economy and a 7Y auction on the screws say the fiscal capacity to sustain the posture is not in question this quarter; munitions multiyears ($70B RTX, $52.5B LMT PAC-3, $6.3B SM-3 IB) restore depth from 2027; GD's $220B backlog is the industrial base's answer; three carriers plus two ARGs by end-November would be the largest CENTCOM concentration since 2003; Gulf states are inside the planning; and Washington owns both tracks — the Vance letter and the Cooper options.

Iranian advantages Geography and ambiguity: three-to-four unnamed "mined" tankers, one confirmed limpet strike and one projectile are enough to keep non-US transits at single digits and cover at 32x; the IMO cannot guarantee safe transit. Proxy reach: the Houthis put six targets under fire on one night and cannot be ceasefire'd by Tehran. Timing: Washington's window is public (post-Nov 3) and so is Israel's paralysis (53/48/19; Herzog consultations from Wednesday, Knesset Nov 10, coalition talks "more than two months") — Tehran can run the clock to Nov 4 and decide with the US and Israeli results in hand. Terms symmetry: Iran's closure of the strait vs America's blockade of Iran's ports. Information: a Supreme Leader who communicates in writing and a decision loop that analysts cannot agree is IRGC-led or collective.

War cost tracker. CENTCOM estimate to Congress: $47.1B as of Oct 16 (+$3.5B vs prior; >25% above the Pentagon's July estimate) — munitions $29B, operations $11.9B, equipment losses $6.1B; excludes base damage [C]. Run-rate: CBO $2–3B/month (~$6–9B/quarter unbudgeted) — below the K3 $50B/quarter red line, but with an $87.6B supplemental request, no appropriation, and the vote punted to the lame duck alongside the Dec 11 CR expiry [S]. Unbudgeted adds this week: ten cargo sorties into Israel, a Patriot system shipped, a battery moving from Texas, the third CSG and second ARG in transit. Q3 GDP: federal spending +15.8% saar contributed 0.90pp of the 3.4% — the war is in the growth number. FY26 deficit $1.992T (6.1% of GDP), net interest $1.1T. Updated CENTCOM/CBO figures this week: GAP.

Key developments, last 24–48h. Oct 30 — Qatari delegation (senior adviser to the PM/FM) returns to Tehran carrying US edits to the draft presented Oct 28; source: "indications of progress"; Iranian reply expected by the weekend; talks coordinated with Washington (Reuters) [C]. Trump: the war "is going to end soon" (no detail); keeps the strike threat; says Vance's letter was "only" about medical supplies [C]. Senior Iranian official to Reuters: Qatar's ideas "unacceptable," no change on the nuclear file; Iran wants the port blockade lifted and oil/gas sanctions dropped first [C]. NYT: US–Israel joint post-midterm strike plans; WSJ: munitions and air defences boosted; Murphy: "insane" [S/C]. K2 · Stock market war impact

Beneficiaries Energy: XOM $187.25 (+2.2%, record; refining > upstream; $20B 2027 buyback) and CVX $235.52 (+1.8%, record; 1.09 mb/d refinery throughput) — the clearest war trade of the week on a −1.8% tape. Defence: GD $376.06 (+1.4%; $220.3B backlog, guide raised); LMT/RTX/NOC/BA Friday closes GAP; ITA still prices the 93% Democratic House. Shipping: VLCC earnings ~$1.2–1.3M/day; PGSA action vs Sinokor from Nov 1. Uranium: term $96 record but CCJ's Key Lake outage (EPS nil) and URNM −52% from peak — the equities are a liquidity casualty, not a war beneficiary this quarter. Cyber: not a war trade (FTNT −20% Thursday).

Casualties Semis and memory (K-stocks the worst: KOSPI −5.4%, Samsung −5%, SK Hynix −8%) — the war's inflation is being paid by the longest-duration equities and their Asian supply chain. Airlines: WTI $104 at a six-month high with no relief but Trump's "end soon." Consumer: gasoline ~$4.2, diesel $6.33, mortgage 7.24%, real spending flat, saving rate 3.8%. Crypto equities: COIN −10.6%, HOOD −7.2%. Gold/silver miners: −5 to −8% — the "haven" trade is the largest casualty of a Fed hiking into a war. Israel: hung Knesset, shekel ~3.12; EM: Korea, Taiwan, Brazil.

Historical pattern & drawdown. Gulf War 1991: S&P −17% Aug 2–Oct 11, +15% in the month after Desert Storm began. Iraq 2003: −14% into Mar 11, +30% by year-end. Libya 2011: −6%, swamped by the debt ceiling. Russia–Ukraine 2022: −13% Jan–Mar then −25% by October — the one case where the war fed a rates shock because the Fed was hiking. 2026, Day 246: S&P 7,580, −2.1% from Wednesday's record, with the Fed hiking and the 30Y at 5.31%; the Nasdaq-100 −10% from its high (its third correction this year); the drawdown lives in gold (−31% from peak), silver (−60%), long bonds, Korea (KOSPI −5.4% Friday), the hyperscalers, the semiconductors (SOXX −8.2% in a day) and Bitcoin (−39% from ATH). The 2022 analogue is the one gaining weight: a war-driven inflation, a Fed hiking into it, and the equity drawdown migrating from the periphery (metals, EM, crypto) to the core (Nasdaq-100) over a month. It stays benign for the S&P until 7,500 (the Oct 22 low) breaks or the 30Y clears 5.50%.

China/Russia defence-industrial exposure: HSI +1.2% was the only major Asian gain on Friday — a yuan near four-year highs, national-team buying and the Plenum's "modernising national defence" line; Hong Kong/Shenzhen defence names (AVIC, CSSC) Friday pricing GAP. The Fujian's first Taiwan Strait transit and the expulsion of a CMC vice-chair in the same week are the PLA's readiness problem stated two ways. Russia: Peskov's mediation/HEU-custody offer stands; AP's reporting of Russian satellite targeting for the Houthis is unrebutted; Russia remains Iran's nuclear contractor, the Houthis' targeting provider and America's licensed diesel supplier. The DPRK's $6.3B Binance haul is the week's reminder that the Russia–DPRK–Iran axis funds itself in crypto when it cannot in dollars.

K3 · Treasury yield-spike indicators — traffic light

SUMMARY: AMBER — easing. 2 RED, 4 AMBER, 4 GREEN (from 2/5/3). The 10Y fell 37bp in October, the largest monthly decline since December 2023; the curve bull-steepened on a flight-to-quality bid; auctions were orderly; the 30Y is 36bp below its high. Yields are not spiking — the opposite problem is forming: the belly is pricing a growth scare the Fed does not share. The two REDs (CPI; TIC) are structural until Nov 13 / Nov 18. Wednesday's refunding (indicator 7) and the Nov 10/12 10Y/30Y (indicator 4) are the two that can still raise the count. Desk convention: RED requires 4+ RED indicators.

#	Indicator	Status	Reading
1	War-spending fiscal blowout (>$50B/qtr unbudgeted → RED)	AMBER	$47.1B cumulative to Oct 16; CBO run-rate $2–3B/month — below the red line. Supplemental ($87.6B request) punted to the lame duck; third CSG/second ARG, Patriot, ten cargo sorties unbudgeted. Federal spending contributed 0.90pp of Q3 GDP.
2	CPI re-acceleration (>0.4% m/m energy-led → RED)	RED	Sep CPI +0.6% m/m (gasoline +9.1%); Sep PCE +0.5% / 3.6% y/y; core +0.3% / 3.1%. Chicago PMI prices paid at a Dec-2021 high; Brent +13.6% in October. Stays RED until Oct CPI (Nov 13) ≤ +0.3% headline. Offset: ECI wages +0.7% (from +0.9%) — wage pass-through is easing.
3	Term premium expansion (ACM rising → AMBER/RED)	AMBER	ACM 10Y term premium 0.89% (Sep monthly); NY Fed ~0.98% early October; latest daily GAP. Friday's 5s30s +59bp (widest of the cycle) with the 30Y −1.8bp on a −3.5% NDX: the long end is not absorbing the flight to quality — term premium held, not compressed.
4	Treasury auction demand (declining b/c → RED)	GREEN (from AMBER)	7Y (Oct 29): on the screws, b/c 2.46, dealers 9.4%. 5Y b/c 2.33; 2Y indirects 45.7% the only weak print. Upgraded on a clean week; the Nov 10/12 10Y/30Y after the refunding are the real test.
5	Foreign holder selling (TIC net selling → RED)	RED	Aug TIC: Japan/China net sellers (prior report); Sep TIC Nov 18. DXY −0.2% on a risk-off day with Bunds bid says foreign money is not buying Treasuries on the dip.
6	Fed rhetoric shift (tolerating higher inflation → AMBER)	GREEN	The opposite: Musalem "soon," Logan "at least two more," Barkin "straightforward." No tolerance signalled; the risk is over-tightening into a growth scare, which is bullish duration.
7	Fiscal deficit trajectory (CBO / supplementals → AMBER/RED)	AMBER	FY26 deficit $1.992T (6.1% of GDP), net interest $1.1T; Nov 4 refunding — dealers expect coupon sizes unchanged with a change signalled for early 2027; a 93% Democratic House and a Dec 11 CR. Flips RED on a coupon increase or a supplemental >$50B unfunded.
8	Credit rating watch (agency warning → RED)	GREEN	No agency action this week. Watch any post-refunding commentary and the S&P France review (Nov 27) for read-across.
9	2s10s bear steepening (long end leading → AMBER)	GREEN (from AMBER)	+34bp (+0.5bp), but a bull-steepener: 2Y −6.4bp, 10Y −5.9bp, 30Y −1.8bp. The long end lagged a rally, it did not lead a sell-off. Returns to AMBER if the 30Y rises while the 2Y falls after the refunding.
10	MOVE Index (>120 → RED)	AMBER	MOVE: GAP (last known ~100–110). A 37bp monthly range in the 10Y with a 10%-in-a-day VIX move argues for elevated-but-not-extreme; held AMBER pending a print.

K4 · Commodity war premium

Brent Jan $113.43 (+$2.63); Dec expired $117.64 — highest since late April. War premium ≈ $20 over JPM's $94 fair value; the premium rose $5 this week on mines, limpets and the post-Nov 3 strike window. Hormuz: 2 AIS transits/day (PortWatch, Oct 25) vs 85 baseline; 85 vessels holding; cover 32x. Goldman/JPM scenario targets unchanged (Brent $130–150 on a confirmed Saudi loss; $85–90 on reopening). Supply-disruption duration: Iranian exports zero since mid-September; non-US transits single digits. OPEC+ core-7 Sunday: December targets unchanged. Europe's 42 mb strategic release (3 months) is the only offset. Russian refinery runs 4.0 mb/d ease the diesel crack.

Gold & silver Gold $3,876: ~15% below the 200-dma (~$4,540) — the deepest discount since 2013; gold/oil ratio 34 (from 56 in January) — the war has repriced oil up and gold down. Silver $49.08: industrial demand concern (Korea/Taiwan semis crash is a silver-demand headline) layered on monetary liquidation; G/S 79. Central banks: PBoC +23t Sep; Poland, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan adding; Russia selling. Safe-haven status: none — both metals fell 3.6–5.9% on a day the Houthis hit Saudi airspace and Iran mined the strait. The metals trade real rates and leverage, not the war.

Energy infrastructure damage tracker Ras Tanura (550 kb/d): Houthi missile claims Oct 28–29; coalition reports intercepts and no damage; Maritime Executive (Sentinel-2, Oct 25) showed cracking-unit and tank-farm damage from an earlier strike, flaring stopped — status [S], barrels offline unconfirmed. Abqaiq, Rabigh: claimed, no damage reported [C]. Kharg: idled by the blockade since mid-September. Tankers: >30 VLCCs damaged since Feb 28 (~3.5% of fleet); Oct 29–30 adds four claimed mine strikes, one limpet, one projectile. Natural gas: TTF €99.73 (briefly >€100); HH $2.715 on mild weather — the US gas market is not in the war.

K5 · War impact on Bitcoin & crypto

Escalation vs. de-escalation: BTC's war beta this week was indistinguishable from zero — it rallied on GDP, fell on a hack, and ignored mines, Houthis, Vance, Qatar and Trump. Correlation: 30-day BTC–NDX correlation remains positive (~0.4–0.5) but Friday decoupled on the idiosyncratic shock; BTC–gold correlation is positive via the real-rate channel (both fell on hawkish Fed). Verdict unchanged: risk-on liquidity asset with an exchange-plumbing overlay; not a haven. Sanctions evasion: the DPRK attribution for Binance is the week's state-actor evidence — $6.3B in 20 minutes; Iran's USDT volumes −94% post-freezes; Russia's A7 rail persists at reduced volume. Stablecoins: $297.3B (−$3.6B w/w, −2.2% m/m) — contraction, not flight; freezes immobilise ~$3B. Hash rate: ~1,063 EH/s near record; miner economics under water at $76k vs JPM's ~$85k all-in — energy prices are not the binding constraint, price is. DeFi TVL: $87.7B pre-Aave freeze; Monday print expected lower. Historical: Russia–Ukraine 2022: BTC −15% in the fortnight before the invasion, +20% in the fortnight after, then −60% as the Fed hiked — the 2022 template says the war is not the driver, the Fed is, and the 2026 tape agrees.

Up-signals: Qatar back in Tehran Friday with US edits; "indications of progress"; Trump "going to end soon"; Araghchi "diplomacy a chance"; Vance letter and offer to meet Rezaei in person; Peskov's HEU-custody offer; Israel paralysed by a hung Knesset. Down-signals: senior Iranian official "unacceptable" on the nuclear file; seven conditions intact; Ghalibaf "carrot-and-stick has no effect"; Trump reframes the letter as "medical supplies"; Pezeshkian: "no longer trusts negotiations." Watch: the Iranian reply this weekend; a venue (Doha/Ankara) and date for a Vance round; Polymarket no-strike-through-Nov-15 (last 48%).

Restraints: Murphy and the 93%-Democratic House; a hung Israel; Brent $113–118 into a CPI print; the Vance track. A Democratic Senate (69%) raises, not lowers, the odds of unilateral action (Musgrave).

Major Gulf export-capacity loss within 30 days

15%

[prev 15%]

Houthi salvos reached Ras Tanura, Abqaiq, Rabigh, Riyadh and Dammam on one night with Russian targeting; coalition intercepts held. Hormuz mines/limpets are a flow risk, not a capacity risk. A confirmed hit on Abqaiq or a loaded VLCC inside the Gulf is the Brent $130+ / Stagflation trigger.

Diplomatic channels

Qatar is the live channel: a draft presented Oct 28, US edits carried back Friday by a senior adviser to the PM/FM, an Iranian reply expected by the weekend, talks coordinated with Washington. The Vance letter (delivered Oct 25) proposes direct, Vance-led talks with the nuclear file in from the start, venue Qatar or Türkiye; Tehran has not replied. Russia offers mediation and HEU custody. The UN Security Council is not a venue. Israel's election leaves no government to co-sign either a deal or a campaign until at least Nov 10. The IAEA (Grossi) cannot verify the 440 kg of HEU and has no access.
