AExecutive Summary — the Big Picture

Saturday resolved one of Friday's two binaries and sharpened the other. (1) No US strike. Barrack's "absolutely… this weekend" has 30 hours left and nothing has moved: CENTCOM reports no new kinetic action, Trump's last word (Friday night, Air Force One) was "Do you really think I'm going to tell you? … There's a possibility I will. There's also a possibility we'll have a nice, big, beautiful agreement," and the one hard fact that arrived is that USS Theodore Roosevelt is in the Philippine Sea leading Keen Sword 2027 (Oct 19–29, 56,000 personnel, 40 ships) with Chosin, Decatur and CVW-11 — not "another week or so" from the Gulf as NPR had it, but a month away at best. There is no third carrier before Nov 3. Polymarket repriced: ceasefire-through-midterms 78.5% (from 74%), through Oct 31 82.5%. (2) The Houthi–Saudi front moved to the Red Sea coast — the bypass. Saree claimed seven attacks in 24 hours: King Khalid (Riyadh), Dammam and Najran airports, Khamis Mushait AB, an Aramco facility at Yanbu, the Rabigh refinery, crude pumping stations and the East-West pipeline; the coalition confirmed intercepts at Riyadh (06:48), Taif and Yanbu (13:08) and a drone over the Eastern Province; Saudi Civil Defence said debris from missiles aimed at Mecca and Medina fell in Mecca (the Houthis deny the targeting); Reuters/NASA imagery shows smoke at an Aramco distribution centre. Nothing is confirmed hit. But Yanbu is where the 7 mb/d East-West line ends and where ~40% of Saudi crude now loads for Asia via Suez and the Cape — the route that has kept Middle East exports above pre-war through a closed Hormuz. The IRGC added a claim of two more VLCCs (4.5M bbl) mined on the "unauthorised southern route," unverified as every prior mine claim. (3) Crypto was the only open market and it was sold: BTC printed $79,263 Saturday evening — through the $80.0–81.5k ETF cost basis and the $79.7k October low intraday — on $821M of liquidations (84% longs), then reclaimed $80.7k; ETH broke $2,300 ($2,294) and lags BTC by 9 points over four weeks; Arthur Hayes closed Maelstrom's directional book ($26M: 8,000 ETH, ENA, UNI, ETHFI) — "we gotta go down to go up." Friday's ETF print was −$137.9M (IBIT −$110.3M), a second consecutive outflow after Thursday's −$635.6M; the week still netted +$301M. Stablecoin supply fell $1.8B on the week to $302.8B — the first contraction of the drawdown and the opposite of a capital-flight signal. (4) The political cost of the war was priced on both sides Saturday: Obama in Cleveland — "seven months later, how's that war going?" — and Pezeshkian in Tehran: "many Iranians are struggling to afford food," the "neither war nor peace" situation must end. Both leaders are telling their electorates the status quo is the problem; neither is telling them the answer is escalation. That asymmetry — Washington's incentive to not strike before Nov 3 rising, Tehran's incentive to talk rising — is why the desk lifts the ceasefire-holds probability to 66% even as the Houthi front widens.

Cycle position

Late-cycle — nominal hot, real cold, capex questioned

Unchanged from Friday; no US data this weekend. Nominal: flash PMI 57.6, mfg 56.0 (53-mo high), GDPNow 3.5%, claims 194k, Q3 EPS tracking +32%. Real: UMich 48.0 / current conditions 46.7, continuing claims 1.728M (+25k), NFP +29k, 30Y mortgage 7.32%, AAL FY loss on $4.70 jet fuel. The third leg — AI capex funded ~90% externally — is the week's binary (MSFT/GOOGL Wed, AMZN Thu). The weekend added one real-economy data point: US gasoline on pace for a record October, and State's advisories for 13 Middle East countries that four Indian carriers have already acted on (Air India to Nov 7, Akasa to Nov 30). The oil tax is now a travel tax.

Dominant regime

Stagflation 50% · Bust 26% (+1) · Reflation 18% (−1) · Goldilocks 6%

One point moves from Reflation to Bust. Friday's stagflation configuration (Brent $117, selling-price PMI at a 4-year high, UMich 1y expectations 4.7%, Fed 75–80% to hike in December) is intact; the weekend added a growth-side signal — crypto, the only risk market open, liquidated $821M of longs on no new macro data, Hayes exited citing "macro and geopolitical uncertainty," and DeFi TVL fell 3.5% in two sessions to $88.9B. Reflation loses a point because the one Reflation trigger (Hormuz reopening) got no closer — IRGC doctrine is "more offensive," Abdollahi says US warships will "never" re-enter the Gulf — and because the Red Sea bypass is now under fire. Stagflation holds at 50%: the war premium is being paid by havens and rates, not yet by earnings.

Beautiful deleveraging?

No — synchronised tightening into a supply shock

Fiscal: FY26 deficit $1.992T (~6% GDP), net interest $1.1T, war cost $45B+ with no supplemental enacted, CR to Dec 11, Scope "unsustainable." Monetary: Fed hiked in September into the oil shock and is 76.5% priced (Polymarket) to hike again in December; BoC ~80% to hike Wednesday, RBNZ 75–80%, BoJ ~80% December. The only new supply-side policy is Trump's Defense Production Act order (6–18 month lag) and a 400k-bbl SPR exchange to Phillips 66 from a reserve at its lowest since 1982. Germany's EBV began its first G7 stock release this week. The 1974/1980 configuration — every central bank tightening into a cartel-sized supply shock — is unchanged; the term premium (ACM 0.64%, 2-month low) is the only variable moving the right way, and it is moving because the market is pricing growth risk, not because the deficit improved.

Key risks vs. opportunities

Risk: Sunday 6pm ET is the first price on a weekend in which the Houthis claimed the Red Sea export hub and the IRGC claimed two more mined VLCCs — a Brent gap above $120 at the futures open, with the 10Y at 4.99% and the FOMC three days out, is the scenario that forces the duration long to defend 5.10–5.13% before PCE. The week itself is the densest of the quarter: Israel Tuesday (change bloc 52–56 vs Netanyahu bloc 50 in all three final polls, neither at 61), FOMC Wednesday with three hike-dissent candidates, MSFT/GOOGL Wednesday night, Q3 GDP and September PCE Thursday (core consensus 3.1%, BofA +0.34% m/m) into a $44B 7Y, AMZN/INTC/COIN/MSTR Thursday night, BoJ Friday with USD/JPY at 156.85, and $12.8B of BTC options into a tape that just broke $80k on a Saturday. Opportunity: the weekend removed the one escalation trigger that was priced at 27% — a pre-midterm strike with a third carrier on station — and replaced it with a slower-burning one (the Red Sea front). Positioning has not moved: S&P leveraged funds at the 13th percentile, crude managed money at the 98th, silver managed money one week from net short, equity Fear & Greed 20. If Sunday's open is a Brent spike without a Saudi confirmation of damage, it is a selling opportunity in the prompt and a buying one in duration — the same asymmetry as Friday, now with a cleaner strike calendar. The trade nobody holds — long duration, long silver vs gold, long equal-weight vs the Nasdaq funders, short crude's prompt — pays on any benign resolution of Tuesday–Friday's binaries; the weekend raised the probability of benign on the geopolitical leg.

Great-power frame

US–China–Russia: Washington spent Saturday on the home front — Trump voted early in Florida and rallied in Macon on living costs; Obama attacked the war in Cleveland; the State Department issued terrorism advisories for 13 Middle East countries and is withdrawing embassy staff; the DNI's memo to Rubio says Iranian plots against US officials have reached "advanced stages." Beijing opens the Fifth Plenum Monday (Oct 26–29) with the CSI 300 on a record weekly losing streak and the MFA silent on Hormuz for a second week; its role in the war this weekend was a satellite (NASA Worldview imagery of Aramco smoke was the only public confirmation of anything hit) and a buyer of discounted barrels. Moscow gets the week's only new great-power event: Pezeshkian attends the Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit in Moscow Tuesday and meets Putin — the first Iranian head-of-state visit to Russia since the war began, on the day Israel votes and the FOMC convenes, after Araghchi–Lavrov in Tehran. Russia is simultaneously selling diesel to New York under US approval, hosting the Iranian president, and holding the Abu Dhabi Ukraine trilateral for the first half of November. The pattern is unchanged and Moscow is monetising it: it is the one capital every party in this war still visits. Washington's tolerance of Russian oil (300k t of diesel, Urals cargoes) in exchange for a Ukraine process is the only bearish-oil black swan on the sheet — and Pezeshkian in the Kremlin on Tuesday is where the price of that tolerance gets set.

CCross-Asset Analysis — Druckenmiller Lens

Bonds vs equities — what the weekend changes for Monday

Friday closed with the 10Y at 4.99% and the S&P at 7,624 — a bond market pricing a December hike and then a stop (terminal 4.00–4.25% for 60% of economists), an equity market pricing that the hike does not touch earnings (Q3 EPS +32%). The weekend produced no US data and no US kinetic action, so the two markets reopen Sunday night with the same disagreement and two new inputs that pull in opposite directions. Against bonds: the Houthi claims on Yanbu, Rabigh and the East-West pipeline, the Mecca/Medina missile report, and the IRGC's two "mined" VLCCs — if Brent gaps above $120 at 6pm ET, the 10Y re-tests 5.05–5.10% on the inflation channel before anyone has seen PCE. For bonds: Theodore Roosevelt is confirmed in the Philippine Sea through Oct 29, which kills the "third carrier before the midterms" variant of the strike scenario; Polymarket's ceasefire-through-midterms moved 74% → 78.5%; and Saturday's $821M crypto liquidation on no news is the kind of weekend risk-off that bids the 5–10Y Monday morning. The desk's read: the bond market's reaction function this week is PCE and Warsh, not Yanbu — Friday proved it (oil +3%, 10Y only +3.5bp). A Brent gap is a 10bp event; a core PCE at +0.4% is a 20bp event; a Warsh "further firming" is a 25bp event. The 20Y auction's 2.73 bid-to-cover at 5.469% remains the floor under the long end: the world buys US duration at 5.4–5.5%, and that floor is 40bp away from the 30Y's 5.31%.

Risk assets vs safe havens — the divergence widened over the weekend, inside the one market that was open

Friday's week-end scorecard was already abnormal for a war escalation: oil +6%, gold −3.8%, silver −4%, dollar flat, 10Y −8bp, S&P −0.5%, Bitcoin flat. Saturday added the only data point available — crypto — and it extended the pattern: on a day the Houthis claimed the Red Sea export hub and the IRGC claimed two mined supertankers, Bitcoin fell through $80k and Ethereum through $2,300 with 84% of $821M in liquidations on the long side. Nothing in crypto behaved as a haven. Dominance at 59.5% (down from 60.0% Friday) says even the within-crypto haven rotation to BTC paused — alts and ETH fell with BTC rather than relative to it. Stablecoin supply contracted $1.8B on the week ($304.6B → $302.8B) — capital left the asset class rather than parking inside it. The gold read is unchanged because gold did not trade: it closed at $3,996 with a Friday low near $3,975, 11% below its 200-dma, after GLD's largest single-day redemption of the drawdown on Thursday. The marginal Western haven holder is still raising cash against the same portfolio that owns the Nasdaq; the marginal buyers (PBoC 23rd month, Asian ETFs, the 12% Shanghai silver premium, India's 6,500t of silver import licences) do not trade on Saturday. Oil remains the only asset in which the haven bid and the fundamental bid point the same way — and the weekend's news is directly in the fundamental channel: if Yanbu is damaged, the "short route, not short barrels" framework that caps Brent near $120 is wrong, because Yanbu is the alternative route.

Liquidity — contracting on every official channel; the private channel reports this week

No change in the official picture: Fed hiking with QT complete; BoC and RBNZ ~80% to hike Wednesday; ECB on hold with a tightening bias; BoJ ~80% for December; CBR at 14%; PBoC's only easing is the national team buying ETFs into a record losing streak. The private channel — hyperscaler capex funded ~90% externally on a $1.5T/yr path — reports Wednesday (MSFT, GOOGL) and Thursday (AMZN) after Meta's negative-FCF guide, CoreWeave CDS at 1,100–1,200bp and Tesla's 20% capex cut. The weekend's liquidity data all came from crypto and all pointed the same way: stablecoin supply −$1.8B w/w (first weekly contraction of the drawdown; USDT $182.5B, USDC $71.6B), DeFi TVL $88.9B (−3.5% from Thursday's $92.1B), ETF flows −$773M over Thursday–Friday, Deribit perp funding at 0.00% with open interest in the Oct 30 expiry rising to 158,970 BTC (~$12.8B) — the leverage is being taken down on the long side, not rebuilt. Hayes closing Maelstrom's directional book is the anecdote that matches the data: a levered risk-taker whose September thesis was Fed liquidity in response to European stress is now saying "down to go up." The signal for equities is that the dollar-liquidity premium the crypto market pays for is tightening into a week when the equity market needs the private-credit channel to fund $400B+ of 2027 capex.

Dollar — flat index, violent components, and a Red Sea that is now a terms-of-trade variable

DXY 101.80 is flat on the week and hides: a euro that lost 0.43% to a French sovereign yielding more than the US (OAT 5.0% vs UST 4.99%, OAT–Bund 170bp, Moody's Aa3/negative affirmed Friday night — three to six months bought); a yen with its best week since mid-September into a BoJ Friday where a hold at 1.25% is consensus and the risk is in the Outlook Report's language ("approaching" → "reached" 2%); a yuan fixed ~600 pips rich to model into the Plenum. Implications: (1) a flat DXY with a weak euro is dollar strength against the only large economy in recession — negative for European cyclicals, which already lost 1.4% on the week; (2) USD/JPY 156.85 with the BoJ hiking and the Fed near terminal remains the August-2024 carry analogue, and the Nasdaq is already down; (3) for gold and silver, a flat dollar while metals fall is the proof this is positioning liquidation, not a dollar move; (4) for crypto, the weekend break of $80k without a dollar bid confirms the move is deleveraging, not macro; (5) for EM, the weekend changed the map: the Houthi campaign has moved from the Red Sea shipping lane to Saudi Red Sea infrastructure, and the US has issued terrorism advisories for 13 countries including the UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait. Four Indian carriers have suspended Gulf routes into November; 3,000 Indian pilgrims were repatriated. India (rupee), Korea (won), Japan (yen) are the oil importers hit through terms of trade without the usual dollar-shortage transmission — which is why the KOSPI could fall 4.1% intraday Friday and close up: the hit is price, not funding. Brazil's runoff Sunday (F. Bolsonaro 83.5%) is the one EM FX event with a binary Monday open; BRL and Ibovespa (192,115 into the first round) price the margin, not the winner.

DScenario Matrix — All-Weather Framework

Probabilities are the desk's for the next 3–6 months, updated daily. Highlighted box = current quadrant. Arrows show the direction the weekend's information pushed each probability.

Rising inflation + falling growth → Stagflation 50% (◆ unchanged)

What it looks like: Brent $110–130 with CPI 3.5–4%, the Fed at 4.00–4.25% after December, UMich under 50, real wages falling (AHE +3.0% vs CPI 3.7%), nominal GDP 7% and real 1–2%. Friday's data was this quadrant; the weekend added its geography — the Houthi campaign reached Yanbu and Rabigh, the Red Sea bypass that has kept world barrels flowing while the strait is shut. Winners: energy equities (record close), short-dated TIPS (5Y real 2.37%), commodity currencies, bank NIMs, defence. Losers: long duration if the Fed keeps hiking, consumer discretionary, airlines (four Indian carriers out of the Gulf into November), European equities, gold until the Fed blinks. Trending toward: Stagflation → Bust if the AI capex funders cut Wednesday/Thursday; Stagflation → Reflation only on a Hormuz deal, which Abdollahi's "never" and the IRGC's "more offensive" doctrine pushed further away this weekend.

Falling inflation + falling growth → Bust / disinflationary slowdown 26% (▲ +1 from 25%)

Thursday's trade (10Y −17bp, staples +3.3%, Nasdaq −2.6%, gold and BTC down with equities) got a weekend echo in the only open market: $821M of crypto longs liquidated on no macro data, Hayes out, DeFi TVL −3.5% in two sessions, stablecoins contracting. The path: MSFT/GOOGL/AMZN confirm $400B+ of debt-funded 2027 capex, credit reprices it (CoreWeave 1,100bp is the canary), SOX breaks 10,677, continuing claims keep rising, and oil falls because demand does — the 2008 H2 sequence. Winners: 5–10Y Treasuries (target 4.75%), the yen, cash. Losers: everything with a 2027 growth multiple, crude (98th-pct longs), credit, Bitcoin (the levered equity index with a floor set by its own holders — and the floor was tested a fifth time Saturday). Up one point because the weekend's risk-off came without a catalyst, which is what late-stage deleveraging looks like.

Rising inflation + rising growth → Reflation 18% (▼ −1 from 19%)

Requires Hormuz reopening (Polymarket 11.5% by Dec 31, from 12%) or a post-midterm strike that succeeds quickly, plus the hyperscalers raising capex and the market buying it. Nominal GDP 3.5% real + 4% deflator = 7.5% is already Thursday's expected print. Winners: cyclicals, semis, copper, EM ex-China, silver as an industrial metal. Losers: long bonds (10Y to 5.3%), gold, the yen. Down one point because the weekend's only reopening signal — Ambassador Moghadam's "reopen Hormuz if the US lifts the blockade," within the June interim framework — was contradicted the same day by the chief of staff ("the US president can only dream of… entering the Persian Gulf") and by a new IRGC mine claim; and because the one reflationary war outcome (quick US success) got no closer with the Roosevelt in the Philippine Sea until Oct 29.

Falling inflation + rising growth → Goldilocks 6% (◆ unchanged)

Requires oil back under $90 (Goldman's $90 December base case is a tail from $117), core PCE at 2.5% (currently 3.0% heading to 3.1% Thursday), and AI productivity in unit labour costs before the capex bill. Nothing this weekend points here; the only Goldilocks data point remains the 10Y breakeven at 2.34% — the bond market does not believe the oil shock persists. Winners: everything, led by long duration and growth equities. Held at 6% as the scenario in which Hormuz reopens on a Pakistan–Qatar deal, Yanbu is undamaged, and the Fed skips December — three things each below 30% and correlated.

Where we are and where we are going: the stagflation quadrant, and the weekend did not move us out of it — it moved the oil shock's geography from the Gulf to the Red Sea coast and the growth scare from the Nasdaq to crypto. The week's path dependency is unchanged: the quadrant is decided Thursday 8:30 (PCE/GDP) and Thursday 5:00pm (AMZN), with Sunday 6pm (Brent's reaction to Yanbu) deciding how much room the duration long has to wait for Thursday. Hot PCE + capex raised = Stagflation confirmed, bonds lose. Hot PCE + capex cut = stagflationary bust, only cash and energy work. Soft PCE + capex raised = Reflation relief, the pain trade. Soft PCE + capex cut = Bust, duration's best case. The desk's book (G) survives three cells and wins in two; the weekend's new information — no third carrier, a wider Houthi front — raises the probability of the geopolitical leg resolving benignly and raises the oil tail at the same time. That is why the VIX call spread moves from LOW to MEDIUM and the Brent prompt short stays off until the Sunday open prints.

ESector & Theme Spotlight

1 · Energy — the record close meets the Red Sea

The S&P energy sector closed Friday at a record (+2.60%), Brent at $116.72 (highest since April 29), with crude managed money at the 98th percentile of its positioning range. The fundamental case rested on one framework: the world is short route, not barrels — Middle East exports are above pre-war (Kpler >24 mb/d) because Saudi crude moves 7 mb/d through the East-West pipeline to Yanbu and out via Suez and the Cape, Iraq exports via Ceyhan, and the US escorts a Hormuz corridor. That framework is what caps Brent near $120 and collapses the curve to $90 on a reopening. Saturday the Houthis claimed the framework's load-bearing wall: an Aramco facility at Yanbu, the Rabigh refinery (400 kb/d, Red Sea coast), the pumping stations and the East-West line itself. The coalition confirmed intercepts over Yanbu and Taif; Riyadh has not confirmed damage; Reuters/NASA imagery shows smoke at an Aramco distribution centre. Second-level read (Marks): the sector is at a record while the index is 2.5% off its own, the president has invoked the DPA and called Iranian hits "fake," and the crowd is maximum long — the asymmetry on the crowded leg (prompt futures) is still down. But the asymmetry on the physical leg changed: a confirmed Yanbu hit is the one event that makes the 98th-percentile long right, because it converts a freight premium into a barrel shortage. The desk does not re-enter the prompt-spread short until Sunday's open prints and Aramco speaks; it keeps the airline/energy pair, which wins on duration of the premium, not direction.

2 · Cybersecurity, towers — and now the Red Sea logistics chain

Friday's PANW +7.2% / CRWD +8.3% / NET +7.3% (Evercore budgets + IRGC cable threat) and CCI +10–12% / SBAC +7.8% / AMT +3.7% (SpaceX fourth carrier) were inflections, not momentum. The weekend added a third inflection candidate: the Suez/Red Sea logistics complex. If the Houthis sustain a Yanbu campaign, the Saudi bypass volume (~40% of Saudi crude to Asia via Suez/Cape, +32 days) is at risk and the tanker market — already at $1.29M/day VLCC Gulf–China — reprices the Red Sea leg too. Tanker owners (Frontline, DHT, Euronav/CMB.TECH), war-risk underwriters and Cape-route bunkering benefit; Suez Canal Authority revenue, Egypt's external account and Red Sea container lines (Maersk/Hapag's resumed Suez routings) suffer. The cyber theme gained a second data point: the IRGC's cable/data-centre threat is now in the US DNI's memo to Rubio ("advanced stages") and in the 13-country travel advisory language ("potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area"). Neither theme is a chase at Friday's closes; both are on the watch list for a Monday pullback.

3 · Semis — the 200-dma decides the quarter, Hynix opens it Monday

SOX 10,779, 1% above its 200-dma (10,677) after Thursday's −6.72% and Friday's dead-cat +0.44%. +51% YTD, 26% below the June record. SK Hynix reports Monday in Seoul (+4.7% Friday; shelved the Solidigm US listing — a company that does not need the capital), KLAC and MSFT/GOOGL Wednesday, Intel and AMZN Thursday. The sector is the swing factor in the Bust/Reflation call: a break of 10,677 on hyperscaler capex language opens 10,000; a hold with capex raised is the Reflation signal. The desk's NDX/RSP short is a short of the funders, not the fabs; 10,677 is its stop reference. Crypto's weekend is relevant here: Bitcoin is the highest-beta expression of the same Nasdaq liquidity trade, and it broke its floor on a Saturday — the semis complex is the Monday-morning read-through.

Contrarian corner — second-level thinking

Silver (held). Everyone knows silver is in a bear market (−56% from $121.67, lowest since November 2025). First-level: the deficit call failed, Western speculators are gone, lease rates are negative (−1.92%). Second-level: managed money net long 3,505 contracts is 3.1% of open interest, the lowest in three years and one week from net short — the 2008 and 2020 configuration; shorts rose 2,492 last week into the decline; the Shanghai premium is 12%; India licensed 6,500t of imports and its premium collapsed because metal arrived; SLV created 0.5M shares into a −6.7% two-day drop and held them Friday; PSLV sits at a 5.2% discount. Kitco's downside levels ($53.46 / $52.41 / $51.39) bracket the desk's $52 re-entry. The price is set by a futures market in which the natural long has been margin-called out, against a physical market paying 12% over for metal. Ethereum vs Bitcoin — the pair is working, and the weekend made it crowded. ETH lags BTC by 9 points over four weeks, broke $2,300 Saturday, and Hayes' $19M ETH sale is the public face of a discretionary-holder exit; BitMine's buying slowed to 12,535 ETH/week. Second-level: Santiment's 169,770 ETH leaving exchanges Thursday (largest in four months) is the pattern that marked the June 5 local bottom, and ETH ETFs posted their first inflow in a week Friday (+$4.4M). The desk holds the pair with a tighter stop (F/G) — the thesis is intact, but the easy half of the move is behind us. French OATs. Unchanged: Moody's bought three to six months; a 5% nominal sovereign with an ECB backstop meeting Thursday is better carry than the US 30Y at 5.31% with Scope calling the path unsustainable. LOW; European desk.

BTC

$80,724

−0.3% 24h · Sat low $79,263

Saturday ~19:00 UTC: BTC printed $79,263 — through the Oct 15 low ($80.1k), the Oct low ($79.7k, the desk's pair-trade stop reference) and the ETF cost basis ($80.0–81.5k) — then reclaimed $80.7k by compile. Fifth test of the cost basis since Oct 15; the first to break it intraday; still no daily close below it. 24h range $79,263–81,445. Dominance 59.5% (CG; CMC 60.0% Fri). Total mcap $2.72T (−3.1% 24h). $239.7M BTC liquidated (93% longs). Crypto F&G 54 neutral vs equity F&G 20. Perp funding 0.00%; DVOL 38.0 flat — vol did not reprice on a $821M liquidation, which means the market treated it as positioning, not regime.

ETH ETFs +$4.4M Fri (FETH +3.6, MSSE +0.8) — first inflow in a week after −$225M Mon–Thu; October −$1.18B. Hayes/Maelstrom sold 8,000 ETH (~$19M). Santiment: 169,770 ETH left exchanges Oct 23, largest net outflow in 4+ months — the June 5 bottoming pattern; $2,400 the pivot, <$2,330 weakens it (we are below). On-chain and institutional

Glassnode (week 42): US spot ETF cost basis $80.0–81.5k, corporate-treasury cost basis $80.2k, True Market Mean $77.6k, 6–12m holder cost basis $86.7k, ask wall $86.5–87.5k. Saturday was the first intraday break of the ETF cost basis in five tests; the reclaim within hours is consistent with a defended level, the fact that it broke on a weekend with no catalyst is consistent with a level whose defenders are tiring. The next floor is the True Market Mean at $77.6k and the Oct 30 max pain at $78k — the two numbers that define the downside if $79.7k fails on a daily close. CryptoQuant (Friday): whale 60-day net position +5,230 BTC (first positive since the drawdown began); exchange netflow +8,428 BTC (mild distribution); STH-SOPR 0.998 (short-term holders selling at a loss); Coinbase premium −0.14% (US spot bid absent); Binance USDT reserves $1.76B (dry powder parked). Saturday's data: Binance 50% of liquidations by venue — the leverage was offshore retail, not US spot; the US buyer was already absent Friday (IBIT −$110M). Strategy: 848,517 BTC (avg $75,446; price now 7% above cost, the 2025–26 ETF buyer underwater); Monday's 8-K is the tell on whether Saylor bought the weekend low — last week's +267 BTC was the smallest buy of the year, and the $3B buyback authorisation says the firm now prefers its own stock. Q2 13Fs on IBIT (Nov 16 refresh): Jane Street 24.9M (+324%), Wells 24.4M (+275%), Goldman 17.2M (−4%), Morgan Stanley 16.5M (−5%), Mubadala 14.7M, JPMorgan 10.4M (+25%), Millennium 9.7M (−50%), Brevan Howard 7.2M (−70%). CME futures OI/basis: GAP (Binance has overtaken CME; Deribit Dec basis ~5.5% is the proxy).

Regulatory landscape

No weekend actions. The OCC's GENIUS Act rule (Wednesday; effective Jan 18, 2027) is the first binding federal stablecoin framework — bank-like supervision, 5% liquidity floor, 40% single-counterparty cap, yield ban retained with a softened rewards presumption; BSA/AML/OFAC deferred to Treasury. CLARITY is dead for this Congress (Senate back Nov 9; lame-duck revote "hoped"). SEC Reg Crypto Assets comments closed Oct 20; CFTC Reg CTX/CAM to Dec 14; CFTC Frontier Forum on AI trading Wednesday. EBA takes USDC supervision Nov 12. OFAC's October crypto actions were Russia-facing (A7/A7A5, $91.5B processed, designated Oct 1); nothing new. Russia's digital ruble: 220k+ accounts in month one, public salaries, P2P crypto ban from July 2027. The regulatory story this week is political, not agency: Israel's election Tuesday follows Netanyahu's "prepare for global sanctions… use blockchain to circumvent them" — if he survives as caretaker, the first US-allied government to frame crypto as a sanctions-evasion rail is also the one directing regime change in Tehran.

War impact on crypto — digital gold or Nasdaq proxy? Saturday's answer: neither, it was the only thing that could be sold

Verdict for the weekend: Bitcoin traded as the liquidity release valve for a portfolio that could not sell anything else. Equities, bonds, gold and oil were closed; the Houthis claimed the Red Sea export hub, the IRGC claimed two mined VLCCs, the US issued 13-country terrorism advisories, and the only asset a levered holder could reduce was crypto — so $821M of longs went. That is not haven behaviour (a haven rises on those headlines) and it is not clean Nasdaq-proxy behaviour either (the Nasdaq was not open to lead it). It is the 2022 pattern's purest form: the 24/7 asset absorbs the weekend's risk reduction and the Monday open tells you whether it was right. Escalation vs de-escalation ledger this week: Oct 19–21 (strike-plan reports, seven-tanker claim forming) +$1.07B ETF inflows, BTC $82k → $81.3k; Oct 22 (claim published, Aramco evacuated) −3.3%, −$636M; Oct 23 (Barrack "this weekend," Riyadh intercept, Brent +3%) −0.5%, −$138M; Oct 24 (Yanbu/Rabigh claims, Mecca missile report, no US strike, Roosevelt in the Philippine Sea) −1 to −2%, $821M liquidated. Note the last line: the weekend's news was net de-escalatory on the US–Iran axis (no strike, no third carrier, ceasefire odds up 4.5 points) and BTC still fell — which is the strongest evidence yet that crypto is not trading the war at all; it is trading the Nasdaq's funding conditions, and those are set Wednesday and Thursday. BTC vs gold during the conflict: both deep in drawdowns (gold −29% from $5,608; BTC on its cost basis), both sold hardest on the same days (Thursday), both now priced by the Western levered holder rather than the haven buyer. This week BTC −1% vs gold −3.8%: Bitcoin "outperformed" by not being a haven at all. ETF flows through escalation: flows ran out of BTC on the escalation days (Oct 22–23) and the weekend's price confirms the holder base thinned further; the inflow days (Oct 19–21) bought headlines, not the facts. Decoupling test: fails again — realised correlation with the Nasdaq rose through the stress; the one decoupling (dominance) reversed Saturday (60.0% → 59.5%) as alts fell less than BTC on a within-crypto basis. Stablecoins as capital flight: $304.6B (Oct 19) → $302.8B (Oct 24), −$1.8B — the first weekly contraction of the drawdown. USDT $182.5B, USDC $71.6B. A capital-flight episode adds stablecoin supply (Russia–Ukraine 2022: +$8B in two weeks); a deleveraging removes it. There is no flight bid from the Gulf, Iran or Israel visible in supply; Iran's exchange inflows remain ~$510M/month (TRM Q1) vs $2.1B at end-2024. Country-level adoption: Netanyahu's "use blockchain" remains the only new state-level signal; Russia's digital ruble is the state rail; the Pezeshkian–Putin meeting Tuesday is the venue to watch for any Iran–Russia settlement-rail announcement (ruble/rial, A7-style tokens, or the yuan-stablecoin pilots). Mining: hash rate ~1,081 EH/s (3-day, mempool.space), near record; Henry Hub $2.64 at an 11-week low — US miners' input cost falls while oil rises; the war remains a tailwind to mining margins. Difficulty: sources disagree (132.7T at the Oct 16 retarget vs mempool.space 140.6T) — flagged. DeFi TVL: $88.9B Saturday, from $92.1B Thursday — −3.5% in two sessions, the sharpest two-day drop of the month, lagging the equity liquidation by one day and the crypto one by zero. Historical analogue: Russia–Ukraine Feb 2022 — BTC −8% on invasion day, +15% in a week on ruble/hryvnia flight, then −60% with the Nasdaq. June 2025 twelve-day war — BTC −4%, full recovery in 10 days. 2026 — eight months of Nasdaq beta with a defended ETF cost basis and no flight bid; Saturday was the first crack in the defence, on a day the war news was net benign.

China / Russia crypto angle

Russia: digital ruble live (220k+ accounts, 300k RUB cap, public salaries); A7A5 network designated Oct 1 ($91.5B processed); US approved 300k t of Russian diesel for New York — the first cargo is en route — settled in fiat, which is the point: when Washington wants Russian barrels it does not need a crypto rail, it issues a licence. No confirmed Rosneft-USDT settlement news (GAP). Pezeshkian in Moscow Tuesday (GECF summit + Putin) is the first head-of-state venue since the war for an Iran–Russia settlement announcement; the desk's base case is gas and arms language, not rails — but a ruble/rial or e-CNY/mBridge reference would be the first state-level crypto-adjacent sanctions-evasion signal of the war. China: mBridge cumulative ~$55.5B / 4,000+ transactions, e-CNY ~95% of volume; no new data (GAP). Iran–China–Russia rail: Iranian exchange inflows down 75% from end-2024 (TRM); the live evasion rail this week was Bessent's targets — a Panama/Greek law firm, shipping agents, six European banks — fiat, not tokens. The crypto rails remain too small and too watched to carry $25B of blockaded Iranian crude.

GConviction Views & Trade Ideas

Horizon 2–8 weeks unless stated. Sizing: HIGH ≤ 3% NAV risk, MEDIUM ≤ 1.5%, LOW ≤ 0.75%. Levels are Oct 23 closes (cash) and Sat 20:10 ET (crypto). Weekend scorecard: cash positions unchanged (markets closed); BTC/ETH pair +1.0% for (ETH/BTC 0.0295 → 0.0292) but BTC leg broke its $79.7k reference intraday and reclaimed; dominance 60.0% → 59.5% against. One change: VIX call spread LOW → MEDIUM. Brent prompt-spread short stays off until the Sunday 6pm ET open and an Aramco statement on Yanbu.

HIGH Long US 5Y–10Y Treasuries — hold the remaining two-thirds through the FOMC; the weekend improved the thesis and raised the Monday-gap risk

Status: entered 5.13% Wed; one-third sold at 4.95% Thu; Fri close 4.99%. Stop 5.20% on the remainder; target 4.75%. What the weekend changed: (for) Theodore Roosevelt in the Philippine Sea through Oct 29 removes the "three carriers before Nov 3" strike variant — the oil-driven +15–25bp tail that was the position's worst case lost its most credible trigger; Polymarket ceasefire-through-midterms 74% → 78.5%; crypto's $821M liquidation and Hayes' exit are the growth-scare tells that bid the belly on Monday morning; Obama's attack on the war and Pezeshkian's "struggling to afford food" both lower the odds of pre-midterm escalation. (Against) the Houthi claims on Yanbu/Rabigh and the East-West pipeline, the Mecca/Medina missile report and the IRGC's two "mined" VLCCs — a Brent gap above $120 Sunday night is a 10bp move against before anyone has slept. Why hold anyway: the bond market's reaction to oil has been small and to data large (Fri: oil +3%, 10Y +3.5bp; Thu: PMI/equities, 10Y −17bp); the week's binary for this position is PCE Thursday and Warsh Wednesday, not Yanbu. Levels: 4.95% support (Thu close), 4.85% (Sep 22) next; 5.05–5.09% first resistance; 5.13% entry; 5.20% stop. Catalysts: Sun 6pm ET open; 2Y Mon; 5Y Tue; FOMC Wed; PCE/GDP Thu 8:30; 7Y Thu 1pm. Wrong if: core PCE ≥0.4% m/m and Warsh signals December explicitly — then 5.13% in a day and the stop is live. Risk/reward from 4.99%: 24bp to target vs 21bp to stop on the remainder, with the booked third as cushion. HIGH on thesis.

MEDIUM Short NDX (NQ / QQQ) vs long equal-weight S&P (RSP), 1:1 — hold into MSFT/GOOGL Wed, AMZN Thu

Status: entered Thu close; Fri −0.8% against (NDX 0.00% vs RSP −0.77%). Weekend read: the highest-beta expression of the Nasdaq liquidity trade — Bitcoin — broke its floor on a Saturday with no catalyst; that is the direction of travel for the funders. Hynix reports Monday (the memory bellwether; shelved its US listing). Thesis: the hyperscaler prints are a binary the funders cannot win — raise capex → the Meta reaction; cut capex → SOX breaks 10,677 and the index narrative with it. Friday's flat NDX was Apple (~$5.1T) and tech +0.5% offsetting comm services −1.8%; the index is held up by the one mega-cap that does not build data centres. Risk/reward: target NDX −5% relative to RSP; stop +2.5% spread reversal (NDX reclaiming its 100-dma with RSP flat) — 1.7% away. Levels: NDX 100-dma (broken Thu); SOX 10,677; S&P 7,600 / 7,550. Wrong if: capex is raised and the market buys it as Reflation — the pair loses 3–4% in a session; or RSP is sold on a stagflation print while NDX is defended by Apple. MEDIUM; no add.

MEDIUM Long silver (SLV / Dec) vs short gold (GLD) ratio — retained half; second half on the first net-short managed-money print or $52

Status: ratio 74.1 (Fri); silver $53.90; $52 re-entry not reached. Metals did not trade this weekend. Weekend inputs: the Houthi Red Sea campaign is a gold-positive headline (pure fear bid) — the risk to the ratio is a Sunday-night gold gap with silver lagging; the Kitco levels ($53.46 / $52.41 / $51.39 support; $54.53 / $55.77 resistance) bracket the re-entry. Positioning (Oct 20 COT): managed money net long 3,505 (−2,114 w/w; 3.1% of OI; 3-yr low); shorts +2,492 to 12,675 — one more week at this pace and MM is net short for the first time since 2020. Physical: Shanghai +12.1%; India 6,500t licences, premium $0.45; Comex registered 100.7M oz (metal reclassified out of the deliverable pool); SLV 551.80M shares (held Friday's +0.5M creation), +0.12% premium; PSLV 5.2% discount; lease rate −1.92% (no squeeze — positioning low, not physical). Action: hold the half; add on (a) silver $52 or (b) a net-short MM print on Oct 30's COT. Ratio stop 78. Gold levels: $3,975 (Fri low), $3,946–3,963, $3,890; resistance $4,021–4,039, $4,075, $4,150. Catalysts: Sun open (gold's reaction to Mecca/Yanbu), COT Oct 30, Dhanteras Nov 6, Q3 13Fs Nov 16. Wrong if: gold finds the haven bid on a strike or a Yanbu confirmation and silver does not — ratio to 78, out.

MEDIUM Long BTC spot vs short ETH (long BTC dominance), 4–6 weeks — hold; tighten: BTC leg now voids on a daily close below $79.2k (Sat low), not $79.7k

Status: ETH/BTC 0.0295 → 0.0292 (+1.0% for; target 0.0265, stop 0.0315). Dominance 60.0% → 59.5% (against). BTC leg: the $79.7k reference broke intraday Saturday ($79,263) and was reclaimed — the rule is daily closes, so the leg is live; the stop moves to the new low. Thesis intact and now crowded: ETH's largest discretionary bid (BitMine) is slowing (+12,535/wk); ETH ETFs −$1.18B in October; Hayes sold 8,000 ETH publicly; ETH lags BTC by 9 pts over four weeks. The counter-signals arrived this weekend: Santiment's 169,770 ETH exchange outflow (the June 5 bottom pattern), ETH ETFs' first inflow in a week (+$4.4M), and ETH at its $2,300 put wall into the Oct 30 expiry. Risk/reward from here: 0.0292 → 0.0265 is −9%; stop 0.0315 is +8% — 1.1:1, down from 1.4:1 at entry. Levels: BTC $79.2k (Sat low; close below voids the long leg) / $78k (max pain) / $77.6k (True Market Mean); resistance $81.5k, $84.0k, $86.5–87.5k. ETH $2,294 (Sat low) / $2,200 (Gerla's liquidity sweep); resistance $2,400 (Santiment pivot), $2,500 (max pain), $2,600 (call wall). Catalysts: MSTR 8-K Mon; COIN/MSTR Thu AMC; Oct 30 expiry 08:00 UTC ($12.8B BTC); MSCI Nov 11. Wrong if: the expiry pins BTC toward $78k through the stop while ETH holds $2,300 — a −3% BTC / flat ETH week stops the pair; or the Santiment outflow is the bottom and ETH squeezes to $2,500 first. MEDIUM; no add; take the second half of profits at 0.0280.

MEDIUM UPGRADED from LOW Long VIX Nov call spreads (22/30) into the Oct 27–30 cluster

Why the upgrade: the thesis was calendar (Israel Tue, FOMC Wed, MSFT/GOOGL Wed, PCE/GDP Thu, AMZN Thu, BoJ Fri, $12.8B BTC expiry Fri) with the VIX at 19.45 and implied correlation off a 1st-percentile floor. The weekend added a Sunday-night gap catalyst (Yanbu/Rabigh/Mecca/mines) and a demonstration — $821M of crypto liquidations on no new macro — that risk reduction into this week has started in the one market that was open. The condition set for the upgrade ("a Brent gap above $120 Monday") may be met at 6pm ET Sunday; the desk upgrades ahead of it because the spread is the hedge for every other position on the sheet. Risk/reward: ~1.4 vol points for an 8-point max payout, 5:1. Max loss premium. Levels: VIX 20.30 (Thu high), 22 (Oct 10 area), 24.5 (June); VIX9D 18.70. Wrong if: every binary resolves benignly and the market melts up — the spread expires worthless (budgeted). Sized at 1.5% NAV.

LOW Short airlines (JETS / AAL) vs long energy (XLE) — the war-premium pair without the crude positioning risk

Weekend inputs, all for: the US issued terrorism travel advisories for 13 Middle East countries; Air India suspended Riyadh/Dammam to Nov 7 and Jeddah to Oct 31; Akasa extended Jeddah to Nov 10 and Riyadh to Nov 30 (joining Etihad/flydubai/IndiGo); Saree warned airlines against resuming Saudi operations; Riyadh's King Khalid airport only partially reopened; the Dammam attack killed two. AAL fuel $3.85/gal Q3 (+67.5%), Q4 plan $4.70, FY loss guide. The pair is long the beneficiary and short the victim of the same barrel; it needs Brent to stay above $100 for a quarter, not to rise. Risk/reward: target +10% spread, stop −5% (a Hormuz-reopening headline). 2:1. Wrong if: a Pakistan–Qatar deal reopens the strait (Polymarket 11.5% by Dec 31) — airlines +15% in a day, energy −10%. The 11.5% is why this is LOW. Hold.

WATCH Short Brent prompt spread (Dec/Jan) — off until Sunday's open prints and Aramco speaks on Yanbu

Stopped at $112.50 Thursday; not re-entered Friday into weekend strike headlines. The weekend produced the one headline that could make the 98th-percentile long right — a claimed hit on the Red Sea bypass — and no confirmation of damage. Rule: no re-entry on a gap higher Sunday night; re-enter only after (a) a Saudi/Aramco statement confirming Yanbu and Rabigh operations are normal and (b) a daily close below Friday's $116.72 settle. If Yanbu is confirmed damaged, the framework is wrong and the trade is dead for the quarter.

HRisk Radar

Top 3 tail risks (next 2–4 weeks)

1 · Confirmed hit on the Red Sea bypass (Yanbu / Rabigh / East-West pipeline) 35% by Nov 15 (new)

Saturday's Houthi claims covered the entire Saudi alternative-export chain: the pipeline, its pumping stations, the Yanbu terminal and the Rabigh refinery. Intercepts over Yanbu and Taif are confirmed; damage is not; satellite smoke at an Aramco distribution centre is the only hard image. The East-West line carries 7 mb/d (from 2 pre-war) and Aramco targets 10; ~40% of Saudi crude to Asia now loads at Yanbu. This is the one target set that converts the war from a freight premium into a barrel shortage — the "short route, not short barrels" framework that caps Brent at $120 and lets Goldman hold $90 for December depends on Yanbu working. Market impact if confirmed: Brent $125–135, prompt spread blows out, Goldman's $140 risk case becomes the base; 10Y +10–15bp on the inflation channel (less than a US strike, because the growth hit is larger); S&P −2 to −4% led by airlines, consumer, Europe; gold +2–3% (finally, briefly); BTC −5% with the Nasdaq; energy, tankers, defence up. Hedges on the sheet: the VIX spread, the airline/energy pair. Replaces "weekend US strike" as the top tail because the strike trigger lost its force posture (Roosevelt) while this one gained a target set.

2 · Hyperscaler capex verdict breaks the AI credit market 30% that MSFT/GOOGL/AMZN produce a Meta-style reaction in at least one name

Meta −7% on $135–145B; CoreWeave CDS 1,100–1,200bp; Tesla capex −20%; ~90% external funding on a $1.5T/yr path; S&P 2.5% off record only because Apple is $5.1T. Weekend evidence that the deleveraging has started: $821M crypto liquidations on no news, Hayes out, DeFi TVL −3.5%, stablecoins −$1.8B. A second negative-FCF guide turns the CDS story into an IG-spread story. Impact: SOX breaks 10,677 → 10,000; NDX −6 to −8%; 10Y −20bp (duration's best case); BTC to $78k max pain then $77.6k; credit the channel to watch (CDX IG, CoreWeave/Oracle CDS). The Bust cell at 26%.

3 · Stagflation print + hawkish hold — the bond market's worst week 25% that core PCE ≥0.4% m/m AND Warsh signals December

Friday's set-up (selling prices at a 4-year high, 1y expectations 4.7%); Thursday's PCE (cons core +0.3%, BofA +0.34%; headline +0.5%, BofA +0.52%) and Q3 deflator (~4.2%) are the trigger; Wednesday's statement the amplifier. If the Fed drops "further firming" into a hot PCE, the 10Y re-tests 5.13% and the 30Y 5.60% inside a week with $183B of coupons and the Nov 4 refunding. A Brent gap Sunday night pre-loads this — the oil channel makes a +0.5% headline PCE feel like confirmation. Impact: duration stopped at 5.20%; equities −3% led by small caps and REITs; gold −3% (real yields); DXY +1%; BTC −5%. The desk's exposure is why duration is two-thirds, not full.

Demoted, not removed — pre-midterm US strike on Iran: 24% before Nov 3 (from 27%). Barrack's window has 30 hours; Trump's "possibility I will… possibility of a big beautiful agreement"; the Roosevelt in the Philippine Sea until Oct 29 means no third carrier before the midterms; the George Washington is being rearmed in the Arabian Sea with standoff missiles and bunker-busters (WSJ) — the capability for a two-carrier strike exists, the stated intent does not. Obama's "how's that war going?" is the measure of the domestic cost. Post-midterm by Dec 31: 58% (from 57%) — the rearming moved it up.

What would change the base case

Stagflation (50%) → Bust: a hyperscaler capex cut bought by equities as discipline but sold by credit; continuing claims above 1.75M; SOX <10,677; a BTC daily close below $79.2k (the levered-liquidity canary). Stagflation → Reflation: Iran's formal acceptance of the Qatar–Pakistan IAEA-for-$6B design, or a US answer to Moghadam's blockade-for-Hormuz offer; a UKMTO-confirmed quiet week; Polymarket Hormuz-normal-by-Dec-31 above 25% from 11.5%. Stagflation → deeper Stagflation: Aramco confirms Yanbu/Rabigh damage; a confirmed hit on a US-escorted hull or base; a cable cut — Brent $130 with the Fed hiking. Base case invalidated: a Fed hike Wednesday (5.5% Polymarket, ~10% CME) — wrong on duration, right on everything else; exit at the stop, do not argue.

Black swans on peripheral vision

Mecca. Saudi Civil Defence says debris from two intercepted missiles aimed at Mecca and Medina fell in Mecca; the Houthis deny the targeting and call it a lie. If a Houthi (Iranian-supplied) missile is shown to have been aimed at the Haram, the Saudi–Houthi war becomes a pan-Islamic legitimacy contest, Egypt's "defensive only" posture and Turkey's "no offensive action against the Houthis" line both become untenable, and the Mecca Defence Alliance acquires a casus belli. Oil-positive, Iran-isolating, Riyadh-escalatory.
Gulf cable cut. IRGC plans for undersea cables, data centres and "AI facilities" are now in the DNI's memo to Rubio and the State Department's advisory language. The one event that converts a regional war into a global tech outage; Friday's cyber bid (PANW/CRWD/NET +7–8%) is the only hedge on the sheet.
Israel Tuesday → caretaker Netanyahu with no coalition constraint. Final polls: change bloc 52–56, Netanyahu bloc 50 in all three, Arab parties 14–16, nobody at 61; Yashar 22 / Likud 20 / B'Yachad 15. Polymarket next PM: Eisenkot 52%, Netanyahu 27.5%, Bennett 13.5%. Weeks of coalition arithmetic with Netanyahu as caretaker — having directed the IDF and Mossad to pursue regime change and told Israelis to prepare for sanctions — is the scenario in which the Israeli strike timeline decouples from Washington's. Polls close 10pm IL / 4pm ET Tuesday; exit polls immediately.
Pezeshkian–Putin, Moscow, Tuesday. First Iranian head-of-state visit to Russia since Feb 28, at the GECF summit, on Israel's election day and FOMC day one. The benign version is gas and rhetoric; the swan is an announced arms, air-defence or settlement-rail arrangement that moves Russia from diplomatic to material support (L: third-party intervention) — gold, European defence, TTF up; EUR down.
Taiwan opportunistic action. The Roosevelt CSG and 56,000 US/allied personnel are in the Philippine Sea for Keen Sword through Oct 29 — a deterrent while it lasts, and a window the week after. PLA tempo was 53 sorties / 48 PLAN / fourth Joint Combat Readiness Patrol in 15 days (Oct 12–18). The Fifth Plenum (Oct 26–29) is historically quiet; the risk is November.
Russian second front / Ukraine deal that frees Russian oil. Abu Dhabi trilateral 1H November; first Russian diesel cargo to New York en route; Russia–Ukraine ceasefire by Dec 31: 13.5%. A deal that lifts Urals sanctions puts 1–2 mb/d back on the market — the only bearish-oil black swan.
French political rupture into the ECB Thursday. Moody's bought time; the 2027 budget is unpassed; OAT > UST. A government collapse tests whether the TPI exists in practice.
BoJ surprise Friday. Core CPI 2.1%, JGB 10Y 2.80%, USD/JPY 156.85. A hold is consensus; the Outlook Report's language is the risk. The August-2024 carry unwind with the Nasdaq already down.
Brazil Sunday. F. Bolsonaro 83.5%; a margin under 4% (45.5%) with a Lula non-concession is the EM-political swan for Monday's open; Ibovespa 192,115 into round one.

Fundamentals / demand

India 6,500t licences · premium $2.50 → $0.45

India permits ~6,500t of silver imports over six months (Reuters/BS Oct 22); 15% duty stands; DGFT fast-track live; domestic premium collapsed because metal arrived. Dhanteras Nov 6 / Diwali Nov 8. China: SHFE −5% Friday on the oil/AI-liquidity double blow. Silver Institute: sixth straight deficit year; industrial ~640 Moz (−3%), PV ~151 Moz (−19%). Comex deliverable metal reclassified to eligible at the low — holders taking metal out of the pool. The surplus is the consensus; the 12% Shanghai premium and 6,500t of licences are the facts.

Aggregate (1,577 filers)	146M	−5.2%	154M Q1, 194M Q4'25 — 13F ownership down 25% from the peak quarter while the trust's share count is flat: the marginal holder is retail/wealth and foreign

Manipulation-signal read (unchanged; no weekend data): the Q4'25–Q1'26 pattern (Jane Street +~50,000%, Susquehanna +470%, Citadel new) coincided with the run to $121.67; the Q1–Q2 exits coincided with the fall to $54. The only 500%+ change in Q2 is Millennium's call book (+1,787%) — a bet on upside built into the drawdown, not distribution. The week's tape confirms the structure: silver fell 6.7% in two days on below-average SLV volume with the trust creating shares, the premium flipping positive, IV falling and Comex registered metal leaving the deliverable pool — a futures-led markdown in a market whose speculative long is gone and whose shorts are growing into it. The holders of record (MS/UBS/BofA/LPL, 41M shares, all adding; Goldman/JPM accumulating four quarters) are not the sellers; the sellers of record (Jane Street, Susquehanna, Citadel) are already out. Squeeze fuel: 30.1M short interest, 12,675 MM shorts, 12% Shanghai premium. Trigger: a net-short COT print Oct 30 or a $52 flush. Nov 16's 13Fs show whether Goldman and JPMorgan bought the Q3 drawdown.

Read: no 500%+ flags in GLD. The wealth channel is flat-to-trimming, two dealers rotated gold → silver in Q2 near a 70 ratio, BlackRock doubled. The 13F book did not sell gold in Q2; the share count says someone is selling it now. Nov 16 shows whether Thursday's −4.2M-share day was a dealer unwind or an advisor flush. Weekend context: the Mecca/Yanbu headlines are the first since the $4,000 break that could produce a Sunday-night haven gap — the test of whether any Western buyer remains at $3,975.

Monday's 8-K is the weekend's most informative crypto release: a buy at $79–80k says the largest holder defends the floor; a second week of minimal buying says it prefers its stock. MSCI Nov 11 the overhang. BitMine: 6,041,481 ETH (+12,535 w/w), 84% staked, $15.1B — the "done stacking" cadence; Hayes' 8,000-ETH sale is the mirror image. 2 CSGs + 1 ARG · ~50,000 troops · ~19 warships · 3rd CSG in the Philippine Sea until Oct 29

USS George H.W. USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) with USS Chosin (CG-65), USS Decatur (DDG-73) and CVW-11 is leading Keen Sword 2027 in the Philippine Sea, Oct 19–29, with ~11,000 US and ~45,000 Japanese personnel, 40 ships and 260 aircraft [C] — this settles Friday's NPR ("another week or so") vs Gulf News ("end-November") dispute in favour of end-November for the Gulf; Makin Island ARG / 13th MEU not mentioned in the exercise reporting (GAP). Aerial-refuelling tanker count at CENTCOM/EUCOM bases back to ~190–195 (early-September levels) [S]. Iranian / proxy forces

IRGC: 2 more VLCCs "mined" (4.5M bbl) · Houthis: 7 claimed attacks incl. Yanbu, Rabigh, E-W pipeline · Mecca/Medina missiles (Saudi claim, Houthi denial)

IRGC Navy (early Oct 24): two supertankers carrying >4.5M bbl struck mines on an "unauthorised southern route," crews abandoned ship [CL]; UKMTO/JMIC no confirmation; CENTCOM: strait open under the blockade [C]. Pattern: Oct 10, 12, 14, 17, 20, 22, 24 mine claims — none substantiated by JMIC [C]. Chief of General Staff Abdollahi (Oct 24): the US Navy cannot re-enter the Gulf, "the US president can only dream"; aims to "drown" the US and Israel in a "quagmire"; IRGC doctrine "more offensive"; "dead hand" retaliation from 31 provinces if leaders are assassinated [C/CL]. Pezeshkian (Oct 24): blames the US for collapsing interim talks, urges renewed negotiation, "many Iranians struggling to afford food," wants an end to "neither war nor peace"; to Moscow Oct 27 [C]. Ambassador Moghadam (Oct 24): open to talks under the June Pakistan-brokered interim deal; would reopen Hormuz if the US lifts the blockade; studying the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement [S]. Houthis (Oct 24): coalition intercepted a ballistic missile at Riyadh (06:48), two at Taif and Yanbu (13:08), a drone over the Eastern Province [C]; Saree claimed King Khalid/Dammam/Najran airports, Khamis Mushait AB, Yanbu Aramco facility, Rabigh refinery, pumping stations, East-West pipeline [CL]; Saudi Civil Defence: debris from two intercepted missiles aimed at Mecca and Medina fell in several western locations incl. Mecca [C]; Houthis deny [CL]; Reuters/NASA imagery: smoke at an Aramco distribution centre [S]; three ballistic missiles at Aden coast-guard sites [C]. Saudi strikes on Sanaa (11–17 killed per Houthi media), ~20 on Mocha, Hodeida [CL]. Dammam Oct 21 strike: airport worker killed; airport partially reopened [C]. Hezbollah: IDF strikes near Nabatieh Oct 23 [S]. Hebron: West Bank lockdown after 2 IDF killed [C].

Key asymmetries

US owns the sea lane, the blockade and the post-Nov-3 clock — but not a third carrier until late November; Iran owns the insurance rate, the Saudi home front, and now the Red Sea coast

US advantages: air/naval supremacy; a blockade that has cost Iran ≥$25B; bypass infrastructure that lifted ME exports above pre-war (Kpler >24 mb/d vs 23.3; Aramco East-West 7 mb/d from 2; Iraq >3.4 mb/d) [C]; a rearmed George Washington with bunker-busters [S]; a published target list (petrochemicals, Pickaxe Mountain; MOAB plans) [C]; Israeli power-projection sorties to the Iranian border (Oct 20) [C]. Iranian advantages: geography — PortWatch 4 transits vs 85 baseline; war-risk cover 3–10% of hull; VLCC Gulf–China $1.29M/day; 70% below pre-war traffic (JMIC 254 transits/week) [C]; mine ambiguity as doctrine (seven claims in two weeks, zero substantiated, Brent +3% either way); a Houthi front that has moved from Red Sea shipping to Saudi airports, Aramco HQ, Riyadh's airspace and now the Red Sea export terminals — the bypass itself; the cable threat the US cannot escort; and the calendar — the pledge expires Nov 3, the third carrier arrives late November, and Tehran can read both dates. Interceptor scarcity is bilateral: Saudi fires at 10+ drones a day; US rebuild ≥5 years (CBO). New this weekend: the US cannot both rearm the Washington for a strike and keep two carriers on blockade station without the Roosevelt — the force is sized for one or the other until December.

Pentagon to Congress Sep 18: $43.6B + $1.5B fuel (CNN: $45.1B); CBO: $38B through Aug 1, >half munitions, $2–3B/month forward, interceptor rebuild ≥5 years; DoD IG: $184M diplomatic-facility damage; five SASC Democrats demand an unclassified base-damage figure by Nov 2 [C]. Supplemental: $67.1B defence request within an $87.6B package; CBO scores $42.3B as war-related; unvoted; CR to Dec 11 [C]. Run-rate ~$0.1B/day, ~$7–9B/quarter unbudgeted — below the $50B/quarter K3 red line; cumulative $45B+ is 75% of the full-year request. Weekend adds: Keen Sword (56,000 personnel) is a separate INDOPACOM cost line; the 13-country embassy drawdown and the Air Force tanker surge are unbudgeted. No new figure (GAP). Historical pattern vs current

S&P −2.5% off record on Day 240 · Gulf War −17% · Iraq 2003 +2% in 30 days · Libya 2011 −6%

Gulf War (Aug 1990–Feb 1991): −17% to the October 1990 low, full recovery within a month of the air campaign; oil doubled then halved. Iraq 2003: bottom Mar 11, a week before the strikes; +2% in 30 days. Libya 2011: −6% Feb–Mar on Brent $120, recovered by April. 2026: the S&P is 2.5% below record 240 days in with Brent at $117 — the smallest war drawdown on record at this oil price, because the cost has been paid by havens (gold −29%, silver −56%), rates (10Y 5%) and, this weekend, crypto (BTC through $80k on $821M of liquidations). The analogues all had a Fed easing into the war; this one has a Fed hiking — no precedent, which is why Stagflation is 50%. The week's test: whether the earnings machine (Q3 EPS +32%; MSFT/GOOGL/AMZN) keeps outrunning the oil tax when the oil tax reaches the Red Sea.

Summary: AMBER — 5 of 10 flashing (2 RED: CPI, fiscal; 3 AMBER: war spending, auctions, foreign selling). Unchanged over the weekend — no rate markets traded. The mechanical rule (4+ = RED) would say RED; the desk holds AMBER because the two REDs are backward-looking and in the price, the three market-stress gauges (term premium, MOVE, 2s10s) improved on the week, and the 10Y fell ~8bp. The weekend raised the Monday-morning probability of a RED trigger (a Brent gap above $125 on Yanbu) and lowered the week's (no third carrier, ceasefire odds up). Upgrade to RED on any of: core PCE ≥0.4% m/m Thu; a 7Y tail >1.5bp; MOVE >120; "further firming" Wed; Brent >$125 with Aramco confirming damage. Probability RED by Friday: 30% (unchanged — the two weekend effects offset).

K4 · Commodity war premium

Brent war premium

$116.72 +3.14% Fri · wk +6%

War premium ≈ $42–47/bbl vs a $70–75 pre-conflict baseline; $27 above Goldman's $90 December base, $23 below its $140 risk case; EIA Q4 $105; HSBC 2026 $90 / stalemate $120; MS Q4 $105; UBS $100. Week-ahead reference levels: bull $120, bear $108. Sunday 6pm ET is the first print on the Yanbu/Rabigh/E-W pipeline claims and the two "mined" VLCCs. Hormuz traffic: PortWatch 4 transits vs 85 baseline; JMIC 254 transits in the week to Oct 14 (~70% below pre-war); UANI US-facilitated 29.7/day MTD; Kpler Hormuz flows 8.5 mb/d vs ~20 pre-war; Polymarket "fewer than 30 transits Oct 26–Nov 1" ~65%. Supply disruption duration: blockade permanent until a deal (end-of-blockade by Dec 31: 34.75%); Hormuz normal by Dec 31: 11.5%. Iraq: October exports >3.4 mb/d, back to pre-war [C]. Saudi: output ~8 mb/d vs >10 pre-war; East-West 7 mb/d; ~40% of crude to Asia via Yanbu/Suez/Cape. SPR at its lowest since 1982; 400k-bbl exchange to P66 Lake Charles; Germany's EBV first G7 release; Libya shut the Hamada–Zawiya valve; Baker Hughes 603 unchanged; first Russian diesel cargo bound for New York. The physical market is short route, not barrels — and the Houthis just claimed the route.

Gold & silver safe-haven analysis

Gold $3,996 −0.7% · Silver $53.90 −1.3%

Gold ~11% below its 200-dma (~$4,500) — the haven in a technical bear market during a war escalation; 20-dma ~$4,149 is the first resistance. Gold/oil ratio 34.2 (from >60 in February) — mid-30s has marked every oil-shock stagflation since 1974 and never persisted beyond two quarters. Gold/silver 74.1. Silver demand split: industrial ~640 Moz (−3%), PV ~151 Moz (−19%), sixth deficit year; monetary swing — India 6,500t of licences vs SHFE −5%. Central banks: PBoC +23t Sep (23rd month); WGC Aug global +39t; YTD 170t; Russia a seller (6t). ETF channel: GLD −4.2M shares Thursday (−12t); SLV +0.5M created and held. Weekend test: missiles at Mecca and Medina, claims on Yanbu and Rabigh — the first haven headlines since the $4,000 break with gold at $3,975 support. If gold cannot gap higher Sunday on this, the Western haven bid is gone for the quarter and the floor is the PBoC's monthly 20–25t.

Energy infrastructure damage tracker

Saudi −2 mb/d vs pre-war · Kharg idle · Iraq restored · Yanbu / Rabigh / E-W pipeline: claimed, unconfirmed

Saudi Arabia: output ~8 mb/d vs >10 pre-war (Gulf-side export constraint, not facility loss); Khurais pumping station hit Oct 4; Shaybah intercept debris (2 killed) Oct 21; Dhahran HQ evacuated Oct 22; Dammam airport strike (1 killed) Oct 21; Oct 24: Houthis claim Yanbu Aramco facility, Rabigh refinery (~400 kb/d), crude pumping stations and the East-West pipeline; coalition confirms intercepts at Yanbu and Taif; Saudi says it "responded to debris falling near oil sites"; Reuters/NASA Worldview smoke at an Aramco distribution centre; no Aramco confirmation of damage [C/CL/S]. The E-W pipeline was struck earlier in October and reopened (TWZ). Iran: Kharg no tankers since late August; ~2 mb/d offline by blockade. Iraq: >3.4 mb/d; Ceyhan 250 kb/d. UAE: EGA Al Taweelah 50% restarted; oil spill on beaches. Barrels offline (desk): ~4 mb/d gross (Iran 2.0 blockaded, Saudi 2.0 constrained) offset by ~1.5–2 mb/d bypass/Iraq — net ~2–2.5 mb/d, consistent with Brent $110–120. If Yanbu is confirmed damaged, add up to 7 mb/d of export capacity at risk and the estimate becomes $125–135. IEA: ~325 mb released since March, ~100 mb pledged remaining; US SPR lowest since 1982; distillate stocks ~12% below the 5-yr average.

K5 · War impact on Bitcoin & crypto

Escalation vs de-escalation phases this week: Oct 19–21 (strike-plan reports, Hegseth–Netanyahu, seven-tanker claim forming): BTC $82k → $81.3k, ETF +$1.07B — the ETF buyer bought the headlines. Oct 22 (claim published, Aramco evacuated): −3.3%, $431–458M liquidated, ETF −$635.6M. Oct 23 (Barrack "this weekend," Riyadh intercept, Brent +3%): −0.5%, ETF −$137.9M. Oct 24 (Yanbu/Rabigh/E-W pipeline claims, Mecca missile report, two VLCCs "mined" — and simultaneously no US strike, Roosevelt in the Philippine Sea, ceasefire odds +4.5 pts): BTC −1 to −2% to a $79,263 low, $821M liquidated (84% longs), ETH through $2,300, dominance down. The decisive observation: the US–Iran axis de-escalated on Saturday and crypto still fell — because the Houthi–Saudi axis escalated and because the one open market absorbed every portfolio's weekend risk reduction. Correlation verdict: risk-on tech proxy on the down days (Thursday beta to Nasdaq 1.3), the weekend release valve when the Nasdaq is shut, never a haven; the realised correlation to equities rose through the stress, and Saturday's move will be marked against the Nasdaq futures open at 6pm ET Sunday — if NQ gaps down, BTC led it; if NQ is flat, BTC overshot and the $80k reclaim holds. BTC vs gold: week BTC −1%, gold −3.8%; both drawdown assets owned by the same levered Western holder; neither caught a bid on Mecca/Yanbu because gold was closed and BTC was being sold. Sanctions-evasion evidence: none new on crypto rails; Bessent's "Operation Economic Outcast" targets were fiat (law firm, agents, six European banks); Netanyahu's "use blockchain" the only new state-level framing; Pezeshkian–Putin Tuesday is the venue to watch for an Iran–Russia settlement-rail reference. Stablecoins: $304.6B (Oct 19) → $302.8B (Oct 24): −$1.8B, the first weekly contraction of the drawdown — a deleveraging signature, the opposite of capital flight; USDT $182.5B, USDC $71.6B; Binance USDT reserves $1.76B parked. Iran exchange inflows ~$510M/month (TRM Q1), down 75% from end-2024. Mining: hash rate ~1,081 EH/s (3-day), near record; Henry Hub $2.64 (11-week low) — input costs falling while oil rises; the war is a margin tailwind for US miners; difficulty figure disputed across sources (132.7T vs 140.6T) — flagged, not resolved. DeFi TVL: $88.9B Saturday from $92.1B Thursday, −3.5% in two sessions — the sharpest two-day drop of the month; ETH chain the bulk of it. Historical: Feb 2022 — BTC −8% on invasion day, +15% in a week on ruble/hryvnia flight, −60% with the Nasdaq over the year; Jun 2025 twelve-day war — −4%, recovered in 10 days; 2026 — eight months of Nasdaq beta with a defended ETF cost basis, and the first intraday break of that defence came on a weekend when the war news was net benign for the US–Iran axis. That is the data point: crypto is not pricing this war; it is pricing the funding conditions of the Nasdaq, and the Houthi front only matters to it through oil → rates → the Fed.

Ceasefire holds through Nov 3 (desk)

66% from 63%

Polymarket: through midterms 78.5% (from 74% Fri; 80.5% Wed); through Oct 31 82.5% (from 81% for Oct 28 Fri); Nov 30 36.5%; Dec 31 29.5%; US×Yemen ceasefire through Oct 31 93.5%. Why up: no strike Saturday with ~30 hours left in Barrack's window; Trump's "possibility of a big beautiful agreement" is the first time he has paired the strike threat with a deal in the same breath since the pledge; Theodore Roosevelt confirmed in the Philippine Sea to Oct 29 — no third carrier before Nov 3; Obama's Cleveland attack makes the war a live midterm liability for Republicans ten days out; Pezeshkian's "struggling to afford food… end the neither-war-nor-peace" and Moghadam's blockade-for-Hormuz offer are the first Iranian signals in a week that Tehran wants a process; Istanbul E3+R4 produced a standing format with Riyadh, Islamabad, Ankara and the Europeans at one table; Polymarket next US–Iran meeting by Nov 30 25.5%. Why not higher: the George Washington is being rearmed with bunker-busters — capability is being built even as intent is denied; Abdollahi's "never… quagmire… dead hand" and the IRGC's "more offensive" doctrine; the Houthi campaign reached Yanbu, Rabigh and (per Riyadh) Mecca — a Saudi casus belli is forming independently of Washington; the DNI's "advanced stages" plots against US officials are a trigger Tehran controls; Israel's caretaker scenario. Signals to watch: any UKMTO confirmation this weekend; Aramco on Yanbu/Rabigh; Saudi evidence on the Mecca missiles; Pezeshkian–Putin readout Tuesday; Israel exit polls 4pm ET Tuesday; Polymarket thru-Nov-30 above 40%.

US strike on Iranian territory before Nov 3

24% from 27%

Post-midterm by Dec 31: 58% (from 57%). Down pre-midterm on the Roosevelt (no third carrier), the absence of a Saturday strike, Trump's deal language and the domestic-politics signal; up post-midterm on the Washington's rearming (standoff missiles, bunker-busters), the NYT's 3–5 day "short but intensive" plan, the MOAB/Pickaxe Mountain reporting, Netanyahu's regime-change directive, and the IRGC's base/official threats creating a casus belli on demand. Polymarket: US invades Iran before 2027 17%; regime falls before 2027 6%; Iran targets an Arab country by Oct 31 50.5% / by Nov 15 81.5%; Saudi military action vs Iran by Dec 31 19%; US warships through Hormuz by Dec 31 22.5%. Triggers: a confirmed hit on a US-escorted hull or US base; a cable cut; a mass-casualty Houthi event in Riyadh or a confirmed Mecca targeting; Oct 27 producing a caretaker Netanyahu; an Iranian plot against a US official executed; Trump's "fairly soon" acquiring a date. Market pricing if before Nov 3: Brent $125–135; 10Y +15–25bp; S&P −3 to −5%; gold +3–5% then fade; VIX 28–32; BTC −5 to −8%. The two-carrier version (Bush + rearmed Washington, no Roosevelt) is shorter and more missile-heavy — the oil impact is the same, the duration is shorter.

Hormuz reopening by Dec 31 (desk)

24% from 25%

Polymarket: Hormuz normal by Oct 31 0.5%, Nov 30 5.5%, Dec 31 11.5% (from 12%); US announces end of blockade by Dec 31 34.75%; blockade lifted before an Iran–Oman agreement 29%; Iran ends enrichment by Dec 31 10.5%; surrenders HEU by Oct 31 0.7%; next senior US–Iran meeting by Nov 30 25.5%, Dec 31 34%; no qualifying meeting by Dec 31 64%; venue if any: Qatar 12.5%, Switzerland 6.7%, Oman 3.9%. Down because Abdollahi's "never" and the new IRGC mine claim contradict Moghadam's reopening offer the same day; the Pakistan–Iran border trade is still suspended; and the Houthi Red Sea campaign reduces Riyadh's interest in any deal that leaves the Houthis armed. Not lower because Moghadam's blockade-for-Hormuz formulation is the first explicit Iranian swap offer in weeks and is within the June Islamabad framework the R4 just endorsed; Pezeshkian is publicly asking for talks; and Washington's incentive to produce a pre-midterm "deal" headline is rising with Obama on the stump. The structural point stands: Middle East exports are above pre-war via the bypass, so the strait's closure costs the world freight and insurance, not barrels — which lowers everyone's urgency — unless Yanbu is hit, in which case the urgency returns overnight.

Red Sea bypass confirmed hit (Yanbu / Rabigh / E-W) by Nov 15 (desk, new)

35%

Saturday's claim set covered the whole chain; intercepts at Yanbu and Taif are confirmed; satellite smoke at an Aramco distribution centre is the only hard evidence; the E-W line was already struck once this month and reopened. The Houthis have moved targets every 3–4 days (Dammam → Shaybah → Dhahran → Riyadh → Yanbu/Rabigh/Mecca). France has committed capabilities to protect Yanbu; the RAF is flying defensive counter-air over Saudi airspace. Impact if confirmed: Brent $125–135, Goldman $140 risk case in play; 10Y +10–15bp; S&P −2 to −4%; gold +2–3% briefly; BTC −5%; tankers/energy/defence up; airlines, Egypt, European cyclicals down; K3 → RED if MOVE >120. This is the one scenario in which the crowded crude long is right, and the reason the prompt-spread short stays off.

Diplomatic channels

Pakistan (primary): Munir in Tehran Oct 20; Ghalibaf "nothing new to say… seven conditions"; Araghchi says indirect talks continue; Moghadam (Oct 24): Iran open to talks under the June Pakistan-brokered interim deal, would reopen Hormuz if the US lifts the blockade — the first explicit swap formulation in weeks, unconfirmed by Washington. Qatar (money/access): Rubio–Al Thani Oct 22; the $6B-interest-for-IAEA-visit design has "preliminary/positive" responses and no final answer; Polymarket venue-if-any: Qatar 12.5%. Turkey (standing venue): Istanbul E3 + Italy + R4 (Turkey, Saudi, Pakistan, Egypt) Oct 23 — joint statement backs the Islamabad MoU, demands unrestricted Hormuz passage, calls Israeli occupation "the main source of instability"; Fidan: "military intervention in Iran is by no means a solution"; Wadephul held Iran and the Houthis responsible; Egypt's Abdelatty for US–Iran dialogue; Turkey promoting the Mecca Defence Alliance (August) — which Iran says it is "studying." No US or Iranian seat. Russia: Pezeshkian to Moscow Oct 27 (GECF summit; Putin meeting) — first head-of-state visit since Feb 28, after Araghchi–Lavrov in Tehran; Peskov: Abu Dhabi Ukraine trilateral "first half of November"; Witkoff with Putin twice last week; US buying 300k t of Russian diesel (first cargo en route to New York); Alyoshki local ceasefire cited from Oct 29; Russia–Ukraine ceasefire by Dec 31 13.5%. Moscow is the one capital every party still visits and is pricing its Iranian leverage into the Ukraine process. France/UK/Saudi: Macron in Riyadh/Doha Oct 21; France protecting Yanbu; UK RAF Typhoons defensive counter-air over Saudi Arabia (Streeting); UK urges a diplomatic solution for Hormuz; Lebanese-army conference after the Israeli vote. Egypt: defensive support only; undecided on the Mecca Defence Alliance — a confirmed Mecca targeting changes that. India: facilitating medicine shipments to Iran; raised seafarer concerns; repatriated ~3,000 pilgrims; four carriers out of Saudi routes into November. UN: IAEA referral (Sep 9) with no new access; no UNSC action (GAP). Israel: election Tuesday — final polls (Kan/Ch12/Ch13): Yashar 22–23, Likud 19–21, B'Yachad 14–15, Democrats 8–10, Joint List 9, YB 8, Otzma 8, UTJ 7–8, Shas 7–8, RZ 6–8, Ra'am 5–7; change bloc 52/56/54, Netanyahu bloc 50/50/50, Arab parties 14/14/16; Polymarket next PM Eisenkot 52%, Netanyahu 27.5%, Bennett 13.5%, Lieberman 3%; Netanyahu retirement by Mar 31 2027 42.5%. Netanyahu: "prepare for global sanctions… US weapons packages won't keep coming… use blockchain"; regime-change directive to IDF/Mossad; West Bank lockdown after Hebron. Zamir: no operational need to strike before the election. China: Fifth Plenum Oct 26–29; MFA silent on Hormuz a second week; APEC Shenzhen Nov 18–19. US domestic: Obama in Cleveland ("how's that war going?"); Trump early-voted in Florida, Macon rally on living costs; 13-country terrorism advisories; embassy drawdowns; DNI "advanced stages" memo; Polymarket Trump–Netanyahu meeting by Oct 31 24.6%.

Third-party intervention probability

China or Russia moving from diplomatic to material support (arms, naval convoy, sanctions-breach at scale) by Dec 31: 15% (from 13%). Up two points on Pezeshkian–Putin in Moscow Tuesday — the first head-of-state venue since the war for an announced air-defence, drone or settlement arrangement, following the Araghchi–Lavrov round and amid unverified reports of Russian personnel movements at Bushehr. Against: Moscow is simultaneously selling diesel to the US under licence and running the Abu Dhabi Ukraine process — material support for Iran would cost it the Ukraine deal it is pricing; Beijing's posture through the Plenum is silence, satellite imagery and discounted barrels, with no PLAN movement reported beyond the Liaowang-1 surveillance presence in the Gulf of Oman (last confirmed March; current position GAP). Market impact if it shifts: gold +5% (the first genuine haven bid of the quarter), European defence (RHM, BAE, Leonardo) +5–8%, TTF gas +10–15%, EUR −1.5%, Brent +$8–10 on the convoy variant, 10Y ambiguous (+10bp inflation vs −10bp growth), BTC −5% with risk. The desk's read: the benign Tuesday outcome is gas-cartel and "strategic partnership" language; the swan is a named weapons system.
