⚠ Weekend tape read — Friday Oct 16 and the week that was

What happened. Friday closed a week in which every US inflation print came in hot and the long end of the Treasury curve rallied anyway, while the equity market split cleanly along the only line that now matters: AI-capex balance sheets versus everything else. September import prices rose 1.1% m/m and 8.1% y/y (consensus 1.0% / 8.2%; August revised to 0.5% / 6.7%) — the largest annual increase in more than four years — with fuel +4.8% m/m (+34.5% y/y; natural gas +96.5% y/y), ex-petroleum +0.8%, nonfuel +6.0% y/y, semiconductors +36.1% y/y and computers +25.5% y/y: the AI-equipment import bill is now an inflation line item. Export prices +2.15% m/m / +11.6% y/y (consensus 0.9% / 9.6%). Industrial production +0.7% (consensus 0.4%; August revised to +0.1%), manufacturing +0.3%, capacity utilisation 76.9% (consensus 76.5%) — the highest output level since 2018, driven by utilities. The volume economy ticked up for the first time in a month; the price level is still doing most of the work.

Warsh said nothing and the front end rallied on it. In Bangkok with Georgieva, the Chair "does not prejudge meetings," called AI "probably the most consequential change" to the economy in his lifetime with a transition that could be "very bumpy," praised recent global tightening and gave no October signal. CME October-hike odds, which had gone 21% → 54% on Wednesday's CPI and sat at 28% as he spoke, fell to ~15% (Polymarket 14% hike / 87% hold; Bloomberg bond-futures 15%); December is now the consensus second hike at 74.3% (CME, from 50.2% a month ago) / 79% (Polymarket); a hike by year-end >90%. The 2Y fell 3bp to 4.72%, the 10Y was flat-to-+1bp at 5.09–5.10% (−13bp on the week; 5.05% Thursday low, 5.33% Wednesday high, 5.365% Oct 7 24-year high), the 30Y +2bp to 5.43% (32bp below its Oct 7 peak). 2s10s re-steepened to +37bp from +32 — a bull-steepener, the front end leading, which is the "one more and done" curve. G7 government bonds had their strongest week since late May; Bund 3.44%, Italy 4.7% (BTP–Bund ~105bp, 18-month wide), eurozone September CPI 3.8% (energy +18.8%). The blackout is now in effect: no Fed voice until Oct 28 at 2:00pm.

The AI-financing unwind went from Korea to the Nasdaq. Asia recovered — KOSPI +2.05% to 5,668.05 (Kosdaq +4.46% with a buy-side sidecar; Samsung +2.6%, SK Hynix +0.8% after +5% intraday; foreigners net buyers ₩345.6B, the first in nine sessions; still −18.8% MTD through Thursday), Nikkei +1.8% to ~65,585, Hang Seng +1.2%, CSI 300 +0.75%; Indonesia posted its biggest drop since 1998 and Turkey −3% — and Europe held (DAX +1.0% to 25,625, Rheinmetall +5.3%; Euro Stoxx 50 +0.6%; Stoxx 600 +0.6% intraday). Then the US sold the cohort Asia had just bought back: S&P 500 −1.09% to 7,659.44 (week −1.95%, first weekly loss in three; closed below its 50-day ~7,706), Nasdaq −2.14% to 26,140.03 (week −4.5%, worst since late June, ending a month-long streak), Dow −0.34% to 52,002.41 (week +0.7%, second straight weekly gain), Russell 2000 −1.66% (week −3.05%). Technology −3.0% (the day's worst), energy +2.5% (the best); SOXX −4.1% for a ninth straight decline; AMD −6.0%, Intel −5.8%, Micron −5.6%, Broadcom −4.5%, Meta −3.7%, Alphabet −2.5%, Tesla −2.1% (after +5.4% pre-market on the Roadster), Netflix −2.9% (1,000 job cuts, −40% YTD); CoreWeave −11.9% (−25% on the week; ~$50–52B of debt and leases, 2032 notes yielding ~15%), Nebius −11.2%, Palantir −7.2% (correction), Twilio −12.6%, Fastly −12.1%; a 45-stock software basket lost ~$130B with 41 decliners. Goldman's prime desk: hedge funds sold AI stocks at the second-fastest pace in over a year — a "tactical rotation" from smaller AI names to larger ones and to non-AI. RBC upgraded health care to overweight and cut tech to market weight; XLV, Visa and Mastercard printed records intraday. Exxon +2.5%, Chevron +2.6%, Alcoa +2.5% (beat), Travelers +1.5% (beat); Truist −2% (adj. EPS $1.16 vs $1.19; $1.4B bond-sale loss). SPY volume 59.2M, 37% above Thursday. VIX 19.99 (+21.5%; intraday 22.31, highest since June 11); VXN 22.9.

Oil re-priced the war; the dollar did not. Brent $109.86 (+3.7%), touching $110 for the first time since May; WTI November $98.98 (+2.6%) and $101 intraday; week +4.2% WTI. Drivers: UKMTO logged 12 attacks on vessels in the past week across Hormuz, the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman with one vessel lost; Iran's Friday-prayer leader praised forces for "targeting three vessels" that left the designated route; Ukraine vowed to keep hitting Russian refineries; Kpler put Hormuz-area flows at 11.62 mb/d in the week to Oct 13 against a 17.15 mb/d baseline. The IEA is completing the remaining 100M barrels of its 400M-barrel March release (muted reaction; Hansen: it does nothing for diesel); the administration is studying easing sanctions on some "shadow-fleet" tankers to relieve record freight (ING: those hulls are already working and EU sanctions still bite). CENTCOM's Adm. Cooper answered the tape at 21:48 UTC: ~400 merchant ships transited Hormuz in the past week, >100M barrels moved with US help, 1.3B barrels "in recent months," the strait "is controlled by the United States and our regional partners, not Iran"; US operations have blocked at least $25B of Iranian crude exports and helped freeze ~$350M of cryptocurrency, and Tehran is withholding IRGC salaries and pensions. Trump: "nobody to talk to" in Iran's leadership, the war ends "very, very soon," and the "Trump Strait" again. Saudi crude exports averaged 8.165 mb/d in the first 15 days of October (5.62 in September, 3.70 in August — TankerTrackers). The dollar fell for the week for the first time in four: DXY 101.78 (−0.27%) from Wednesday's 102.90–102.94 18-month high; EUR 1.1238, GBP 1.331 (two-week high), USD/JPY 158.0 (Katayama "ready to act"; BoJ's Koeda against holding back on hikes). Gold futures $4,188.80 (+0.45%; −0.1% on the week), spot ~$4,166–4,175; silver Dec ~$57.5 (+0.6%; −4.4% on the week), spot ~$57.0.

The fiscal and foreign-holder prints landed after the close. The FY2026 budget deficit closed at ~$2.0 trillion, +$218B (+12%) y/y (CBO: receipts +3%, outlays +6%; net interest and defense both higher). August TIC: total foreign Treasury holdings rose $83B to $9.331T on a $199.8B net inflow (Treasury inflows $108.9B after −$3.6B in July; equities +$153.9B) — but China cut to $590.7B (−2.4% m/m, lowest since August 2008, −16% y/y) and Japan to $1.068T (−3.2% m/m) while the UK (+1.1% to $1.009T, first time above $1T) and Canada (+4.2% to $490.5B) absorbed it. That is a second consecutive month of net selling by both top-two official holders: K3 indicator #5 flips to RED (3 RED / 3 AMBER / 4 GREEN). The crypto tape ignored all of it: BTC $81,600 (−0.5% on the day, +0.6% on the week) after a $79,700 Thursday low and an $82,700 Friday high; ETH ~$2,450–2,475 (+1–5% intraday). US spot BTC ETFs: Oct 13 +$175.7M, Oct 14 −$261.4M, Oct 15 +$5.1M, Oct 16 flat so far (IBIT/FBTC pending); October MTD −$540M; cumulative $57.0B; CoinShares weekly −$434M across crypto funds. MSCI will exclude certain "non-operating companies" — Strategy (MSTR −3% pre-market) is the target; final list Nov 11, effective after the Nov 30 close.

A Executive Summary — the Big Picture

Cycle position

Late-cycle

nominal hot / real cold

IP +0.7% and CU 76.9% (2018-high output) against NFP +29k, UR 4.2%, UMich 46.3 and negative real wages. GDPNow 3.6% for Q3 is inventories and nominal spending; the Q3 advance print is Oct 29.

Import prices 8.1% y/y, PPI 6.3%, CPI 3.7%, Brent $110 and a 2008-low Chinese Treasury position in the same week — the inflation is imported, energy-led and fiscally financed.

"Beautiful deleveraging" status

Ugly

policy mix inconsistent

FY26 deficit $2.0T (+12%) with net interest ~$1.1T; the Fed hiked into it and the top-two foreign creditors are net sellers two months running. Monetary restraint is being offset by fiscal expansion and a war premium the Fed cannot print away.

Great-power triangle

Adversarial

China sells Treasuries · Russia barrels in play

Beijing's holdings at a 2008 low while US export prices to China rise 7.5% y/y; Washington floats shadow-fleet relief for Russian barrels while Kyiv vows more refinery strikes; Iran–Hezbollah on readiness. No off-ramp with any vertex.

Where we are

The week delivered the full stagflation data set — CPI 3.7% (+0.6% m/m), PPI 6.3% (+1.3%), import prices 8.1% (+1.1%), export prices 11.6% — alongside a labour market that added 29k jobs and a consumer whose ex-gasoline spending rose 0.2%. The Fed, having hiked once in September to 3.75–4.00%, now faces a Chair who will not pre-commit and a market that has decided October is a hold (~15%) and December the second hike (74–79%). Real policy rates are roughly zero against headline inflation and ~1.3% against core — restrictive enough to break the most levered corner of the equity market (AI infrastructure credit: CoreWeave 2032s at 15%, the stock −25% on the week, a software basket down $130B on Friday) but not the price level, which is being set in the Strait of Hormuz and on the fiscal ledger. This is late-cycle in the Dalio sense: the credit that is being withdrawn is from the marginal borrower, the spending that is not being withdrawn is sovereign, and the asset that is repricing fastest is the long bond's foreign ownership, not its yield.

The dominant macro regime

Stagflation vector, 47% (from 45%). The upgrade is on two facts: foreign official selling has become a trend (China and Japan both net sellers in July and August; China at a 2008 low), which removes the price-insensitive bid that made the 10Y's rally through hot prints possible; and Brent's close above $109 on a week of 12 confirmed ship attacks says the war premium is re-expanding, not decaying, into the midterms. Against that, the week's bond-market behaviour (10Y −13bp w/w through CPI/PPI/import prices) says the market believes the energy shock is demand-destroying — the IEA has 2026 oil demand −2.6 mb/d — and that the Fed will not chase it. Both can be true: nominal growth stays high, real growth stays flat, the curve bull-steepens from the front as the terminal rate is capped, and the long end remains hostage to supply and foreign flows rather than to the Fed. The reflation path (23%) needs a Hormuz framework and a China Q3 beat on Monday; the bust path (23%) needs the AI-credit layer to produce a default rather than a drawdown; Goldilocks (7%) needs October gasoline to subtract from CPI and Brent to fall — Friday removed the second condition.

Risks vs opportunities

Risk: the 10Y's three-day rally was built on a growth-fear bid and a short squeeze, and it has now been told that its two largest foreign holders are selling into a $2.0T deficit with a war supplemental unenacted; a 20Y auction tail on Wednesday into a blackout Fed is the path to 5.25%+ and the reversal of this week's rotation. Risk: the AI-credit repricing has moved from a single name (CoreWeave) to a cohort (Nebius, software, semis nine days down, Korea −19% MTD) during the week Meta and Tesla guide capex (Oct 21) — a capex cut is a credit event for the vendor chain; a capex raise is an equity event for the buyer. Opportunity: the rotation is early — health care and energy are the only sectors with both earnings momentum and positive flows; equal-weight S&P closed near its highest since mid-September on Thursday; the stagflation pair (XLV/XLE vs SOXX/IGV) has paid six sessions out of seven. Opportunity: silver's washout is intact (managed-money net long at a cycle low, SLV basket creation into the decline, G/S ratio turning), gold is 7–8% below its 200-DMA with central banks still buying, and the dollar just posted its first weekly loss in four with the Fed silent for eleven days.

What the market is not pricing

Three things. (1) A December hike that is also the last is priced; a December hike with a January follow-up because import prices and export prices are running 8–12% y/y is not — the 2Y at 4.72% assumes terminal ~4.25%. (2) Foreign official selling as a trend rather than a month: the UK and Canada absorbing $100B+ of Treasuries is hedge-fund basis-trade and custodial flow, which is leverage, not reserve demand; the term premium bid returns when the basis trade is squeezed, which a MOVE above 110 would do. (3) That the war is escalating in the shipping lane while de-escalating in the prediction market: 78% ceasefire-through-midterms with 12 ship attacks a week, a $350M crypto freeze and IRGC salaries unpaid is a regime whose economic pain is rising while its exit options are closing — that resolves in a lunge, not a glide.

C Cross-Asset Analysis — Druckenmiller lens

What the bond market is saying vs. equities

The bond market spent the week saying that the inflation is real but the Fed's response to it is capped: the 10Y fell 13bp through a 0.6% CPI, a 1.3% PPI and an 8.1% import-price print, and the 2Y fell further on Friday the moment the Chair declined to pre-commit. That is a "terminal is 4.25%, growth pays the bill" curve — the front end rallies on fewer hikes, the long end rallies on demand destruction, and 2s10s oscillates between +32 and +44 without choosing. The equity market agreed with the growth half of the message and not the Fed half: it sold the assets whose cash flows are funded with 15% debt (CoreWeave, Nebius, the software basket) and bought the assets whose cash flows are funded with $110 oil (Exxon, Chevron, refiners) and with pricing power in a 3.7% CPI world (health care, staples, Visa/Mastercard). The Nasdaq's −4.5% week on a −13bp 10Y week is the tell: this is not a rates-driven de-rating of long duration, it is a credit-driven de-rating of capex. Bonds and equities are telling the same story from different ends — nominal growth is being bought by the sovereign and by the energy complex, and the private-sector marginal borrower is being cut off.

The one message the bond market has not yet delivered is the fiscal one. Friday's after-hours prints — a $2.0T deficit and a second month of Chinese and Japanese net selling — arrived after the cash close and into a week with a 20Y auction and no Fed speakers. The 10Y's 5.33% Wednesday high and 5.365% Oct 7 high are the levels that convert "growth scare" into "buyer's strike." The week's rally was G7-wide (strongest since May), which argues for a global growth bid; but the UK and Canada absorbing $100B+ of Treasuries in August is basis-trade and custody flow, not reserve accumulation, and that flow is price-sensitive in exactly the way the PBoC's was not.

Risk assets vs. safe havens: the divergence

Gold ended the week flat (−0.1%) through a −1.5% CPI-day drop and a +1.5% PPI-day recovery; silver −4.4%; the dollar −0.3% on the week and off an 18-month high; the 10Y −13bp; VIX +35% on the week to ~20. Bitcoin +0.6%. Oil +4%. The haven complex is bifurcated: duration and gold were bought, the dollar was sold, and crypto was flat — which is precisely the pattern when the market prices a Fed peak rather than a growth collapse. In a growth collapse the dollar rallies with bonds and gold lags; in a Fed-peak the dollar falls, gold holds, and bonds rally. The risk complex is also bifurcated: cyclical value (energy, materials, Dow +0.7%) up, growth beta (Nasdaq −4.5%, Russell −3%, KOSPI −19% MTD) down. There is no single "risk-off" — there is a rotation within risk and a rotation within havens, and the common factor is the term structure of the Fed, not fear.

The exception is Friday's VIX. A +21% day to 20 with a 22.3 intraday high on a −1.1% S&P is a volatility market that smells something the index does not: the SOXX's ninth straight decline, Korean margin debt, CoreWeave's bond price, and Meta/Tesla capex guidance in five sessions with the Fed silent. The VIX futures curve inverted at the front on Friday; that inversion must resolve by Wednesday's close or Friday's opex becomes a de-grossing event.

Liquidity: expanding or contracting?

Contracting at the margin, expanding at the core. The marginal borrower (AI infrastructure, Korean retail margin, EM — Indonesia's worst day since 1998, Turkey −3%) is being repriced; CoreWeave's 2032s went from 13.4% to 15.1% in two weeks, and Goldman's prime book sold AI at the second-fastest pace in a year. The core (the US Treasury) borrowed $2.0T in FY26 and the TIC data say foreign private investors funded $300B of US securities in August alone. Bank reserves are ample, HY spreads tightened 3bp on Thursday to 321bp, IG issuance is open. The dollar's first weekly decline in four is a loosening of global financial conditions for everyone outside the US; the BoJ's hesitation on an October hike and Katayama's intervention threat keep the yen carry alive. Net: global liquidity is not contracting in aggregate — it is being re-allocated away from the 2025–26 AI capex trade and toward sovereign and energy balance sheets, which is the definition of a late-cycle rotation rather than a liquidity crisis. The line that would change that reading is a MOVE above 110 or a HY OAS above 350bp.

Dollar implications across assets

DXY 101.78 after a 102.94 rejection, with RSI ~35 and the Fed in blackout: the path of least resistance is lower toward 101.3–101.0 unless the 20Y auction tails. A softer dollar is the single most important input for the week's trades: it is the bid under gold ($4,235 is the level), the enabler of silver's washout reversal, the relief for EM and KOSPI (foreigners bought Korea on Friday for the first time in nine sessions), a tailwind for oil in dollar terms (Brent $110 arrived with the dollar down), and the one macro factor that has been bullish for Bitcoin in 2026 (every BTC bounce this month came on a DXY down day). It is bearish for the euro-area periphery in relative terms (BTP–Bund at an 18-month wide with the ECB expected to hike in December) and neutral-to-negative for Japan equities via the yen. The dollar bear case breaks above 102.26 (FXEmpire) and is confirmed below 101.60.

D Scenario Matrix — Dalio "All Weather" framework

Probabilities for the 3–6-month regime; levels are desk base cases, not forecasts. Current quadrant highlighted solid; trending quadrant dashed.

▲ Growth ▲ Inflation — Reflation23% (from 24%)

Path: China Q3 GDP beats Monday with retail sales and FAI confirming; a Hormuz framework caps Brent at $100; IP +0.7% and CU 76.9% prove to be the start of a capex cycle outside AI; October CPI holds +0.3% with energy flat. Assets: commodities (copper, uranium, industrial metals) lead; energy and materials equities; EM and KOSPI recover; bear-steepener (10Y 5.30–5.50%); gold flat, silver and platinum outperform; BTC +15% on liquidity; defense underperforms. Friday's evidence: IP/CU and the KOSPI rebound; against: Brent $110 and China's Treasury selling.

▲ Growth ▼ Inflation — Goldilocks7% (unch)

Path: requires both a gasoline-driven negative October CPI contribution and Brent below $95 — Friday removed the second condition. Assets: long duration and growth equities; semis squeeze (SOXX nine days down is the kindling); dollar lower; gold up on real yields; BTC the biggest beta. Trigger: a Hormuz agreement before the FOMC plus Meta/Tesla capex "disciplined, not cut."

▼ Growth ▲ Inflation — Stagflation47% (from 45%) · CURRENT

Path: import prices 8.1%, export prices 11.6%, CPI 3.7%, Brent $110 with NFP +29k, control-group retail +0.1%, UMich 46.3 and Korea −19% MTD. The Fed hikes once more in December and stops; the long end is held hostage to supply and foreign selling rather than to the Fed. Assets: health care, staples, energy and refiners over tech and discretionary; 2s10s range +20 to +45 with bull-steepening episodes on every dovish Fed data point; gold and silver up with a lag as real yields cap; BTC range-bound $77–88K with ETF outflows; dollar range 101–103; VIX 18–25; defense bid on the supplemental. Friday's evidence: everything but the KOSPI bounce.

▼ Growth ▼ Inflation — Deflationary bust23% (from 24%) · TREND RISK

Path: the AI-credit layer produces a default or a covenant event rather than a drawdown; Meta/Tesla cut capex; Korea's margin cascade transmits via the yen; oil demand destruction (IEA −2.6 mb/d) overwhelms the Hormuz premium and Brent breaks $95 on a growth scare rather than a peace. Assets: long 10Y the only trade (4.75%); dollar up with bonds; gold up, silver down (ratio to 80+); BTC −20% as the risk proxy; health care holds, energy breaks; HY to 450bp; defense holds on fiscal. Friday's evidence: SOXX nine down, CoreWeave −25% w/w, software −$130B, VIX 22 intraday. Not the base case because HY is at 321bp and claims are 199k.

Assessment. We are in the stagflation quadrant and Friday pushed the weight toward it (47%) on the import-price and oil prints while the trend risk toward the bust quadrant is unchanged at 23% — the AI-credit channel is the bridge between them, and it worsened on the week (CoreWeave 15% yields, nine-day SOXX decline, Goldman HF selling). The reflation quadrant gets its test Monday (China) and Wednesday (Meta/Tesla capex); the Goldilocks quadrant is a residual that needs an Iranian signature. Position for the current quadrant, hedge the trend quadrant with duration and VIX, and keep the reflation optionality in commodities rather than in semis.

E Sector & Theme Spotlight

Momentum / inflection

1. Energy and refiners — the war premium is back and the flat price followed. Brent $109.86 (+3.7%) on a day when the dollar fell and the IEA announced its final 100M barrels is a market that has stopped believing in the release and started pricing the 12-attacks-a-week tape. XLE +2.5% led every sector on Friday; Exxon and Chevron +2.5–2.6% to the top of their ranges; refiners were at records on Thursday on a Dated-Brent/futures spread near $20 and diesel more than 2× YTD in Europe. The Brent–WTI spread re-widened from ~$8 to ~$11 — the Gulf risk is being re-inserted into the seaborne benchmark. Saudi exports at 8.17 mb/d in the first half of October (from 3.7 in August) show the bypass and convoy system working — and the price rising anyway, which says the premium is now about insurance, freight and the next sinking rather than barrels. Energy is the only sector with earnings momentum (Q3 at $100+ realised), positive flows and a geopolitical call option. Valero Thursday, Exxon/SLB Friday.

2. Health care and staples — the rotation is now sell-side consensus. XLV printed a record intraday Friday and closed −0.3% on a −1.1% tape; RBC upgraded the sector to overweight and cut tech to market weight on valuation; Visa/Mastercard at records. Six of seven sessions the XLV/SOXX pair has paid. Event risk is concentrated: Moderna −10% Friday ahead of its intismeran Phase 3 readout, ISRG Tuesday, Abbott/Thermo/Danaher/Elevance Wednesday, Gilead Thursday. The sector is cheap relative to its earnings stability (it has not been the market's defensive of choice during the AI bull run) and it is the natural long against a capex-cycle short — but it is now crowded on a two-week basis, so size the next add on a pullback to the 50-day (~$172) rather than at the record.

3. European defense and the US supplemental — Rheinmetall +5.3% led the DAX. The materiel bill of a 232-day war (81 US aircraft lost or damaged, interceptor depletion, an $87.6B supplemental request) is unenacted and bipartisan; Europe's defence names are pricing it (Rheinmetall at the top of the DAX on a +1% day) while US primes have lagged on midterm/budget scrutiny — S&P 1500 A&D −19% from its August high, LMT −25% from its 2026 high. RTX and NOC report Tuesday, LMT Thursday; the Friday Lockheed C-130J/E-130J TACAMO delivery is the kind of program news that does not move a stock in a drawdown but does in a recovery. The spread between European and US defence performance is the contrarian entry (below).

Contrarian — Howard Marks second-level thinking

(a) Korean semis after the circuit breaker — the washout is in, the bottom is not confirmed. First-level: KOSPI −19% MTD, Samsung/Hynix −20%+, foreign exodus → avoid. Second-level: foreigners bought Friday for the first time in nine sessions (₩345.6B), Kosdaq triggered a buy-side sidecar, and the index closed +2% while US semis fell a ninth day — the first day Korea decoupled upward from the SOXX. HBM demand is not what fell; the financing of the buyers of HBM is. If Meta/Tesla say "capex up, financed from cash flow" on Wednesday, the Korean names re-rate faster than the US hyperscalers because they were sold as a liquidity proxy, not on fundamentals. Entry: EWY or Samsung/Hynix ADR-equivalents on a second foreign net-buy day; stop a close below Thursday's 5,554 KOSPI low. Not NVDA, not the US fabless names — those still carry the credit beta.

(b) US defence primes vs European — buy the laggard into earnings. First-level: a 78% ceasefire-through-midterms market and a Democratic-House scenario mean defence budgets get scrutinised. Second-level: the ceasefire is a pause, not a settlement; the replenishment bill exists regardless of who holds the House; and the European names have already priced the spending that the US names have not. RTX/NOC Tuesday and LMT Thursday are the catalysts; the asymmetry is a guide raise on backlog with the stocks 20–25% below their highs. Pair against JETS/UAL (reports Tuesday) for a war-neutral expression.

(c) Long-end Treasuries vs the fiscal narrative — the consensus is becoming consensus. First-level: $2.0T deficit, China at a 2008 low, Japan −3.2%, 20Y auction Wednesday → short the long bond. Second-level: the 10Y just fell 13bp through the worst inflation week of the year and G7 bonds had their best week since May; specs are net short ~2.9M contracts; EPFR shows $14B into government bond funds in October. The foreign-selling print is now known and the auction is the test. A tail that is bought by Thursday is the signal to add duration against the entire sell-side; a tail that is not bought is the signal to cut. Do not pre-position; react to the 1:00pm Wednesday result.

F Crypto Deep Dive

BTC / ETH: price, on-chain, correlation

Bitcoin held the $80–82K US-ETF cost-basis band for a fifth consecutive session and finished the week +0.6% at ~$81,600 after a $79,700 Thursday low (the cycle low of the drawdown, ~35% below the Oct 6, 2025 ATH of $126,198) and an $82,700 Friday high. Every bounce came with the dollar: Tuesday's and Friday's highs printed on DXY down days; the two lows (Wednesday post-CPI, Thursday) on DXY up days. BTC's correlation to the Nasdaq broke on Friday — Nasdaq −2.1%, BTC −0.5% — not because Bitcoin found a haven bid but because its marginal seller (the ETF channel) was already out: October flows are −$540M, concentrated in FBTC and IBIT on Oct 7–8 and Oct 14, with Thursday's +$5.1M and Friday's zeros from the smaller issuers the first flat days since the sell-off began. The 6–12-month holder cost basis near $88K caps rallies; the $77.2K level below the band is the next cluster. ETH ranged $2,440–2,480, +1–5% intraday, and ended the week −1.3% (−38.8% y/y); ETH/BTC 0.030 is at the lows — the ETHA outflows (−$110M Wednesday) say the institutional de-risk is larger in ETH than in BTC. Fear & Greed 56 (Saxo) vs ~41 (CoinGecko) — the dispersion itself says the market is undecided; CryptoQuant's 84% analyst bullishness at a lower low remains the contrarian positioning read.

Friday's structural news was MSCI's plan to exclude "non-operating companies" from its indices — the Strategy/MSTR treasury-company model — with the final list Nov 11 and implementation after the Nov 30 close. MSTR fell 3% pre-market. The passive bid that treasury companies have enjoyed since 2024 is being administratively removed in the same month the Fed hikes; the forced selling is index-mechanical, not sentiment, and it lands on MSTR, not on spot BTC — but the premium-to-NAV compression removes one of the cycle's leveraged buyers.

Regulatory landscape

Three items. (1) CENTCOM's $350M crypto freeze (Friday): US operations against Iran "helped freeze nearly $350 million in cryptocurrency" alongside $25B of blocked crude exports — the first time the military command has reported a digital-asset enforcement figure; it confirms that the Iranian state's crypto rails are visible and that Treasury/OFAC are using the war to map them. (2) MSCI's non-operating-company exclusion — a regulatory action by a private index provider with ETF-flow consequences for the treasury-company cohort. (3) No new SEC/CFTC action this week; the market-structure bill remains in the lame-duck queue. The policy vector is enforcement-heavy, structure-light into the midterms.

Institutional flows

US spot BTC ETFs: Oct 13 +$175.7M (FBTC +$103.1M, IBIT +$65.9M, Morgan Stanley's MSBT +$6.7M), Oct 14 −$261.4M (FBTC −$152.7M, IBIT −$110.9M), Oct 15 +$5.1M (IBIT +$16.8M, GBTC-mini −$7.6M, BTCO −$4.1M), Oct 16 flat for the issuers that have reported. Week −$80.6M; October −$539.8M (~6,590 BTC) after +$2.6B in September; cumulative $57.03B; IBIT lifetime $65.64B; US ETF holdings $105.7B = 6.41% of supply. CoinShares: −$434M across crypto funds last week on rate-hike fears; ETH funds −$129.5M on Wednesday alone. CME: October-expiry positioning was worked off into Friday's 18,029-contract Deribit expiry without a break of $80K. Strategy added 250 BTC at $86,194 in the week to Oct 11 — above the market — and is now the subject of an index exclusion. The institutional read: the wirehouse channel (FBTC) is reducing, the BlackRock channel is flat, the treasury-company channel is about to lose its passive bid. That is three of the four 2024–26 demand sources neutral-to-negative; the fourth (sovereign/corporate treasuries outside the US) is the one the $350M freeze headline complicates.

War impact on crypto

Digital gold or risk-on proxy? Over the 232-day conflict Bitcoin is −7% YTD and −35% from its ATH while gold is +~35% from the February outbreak; on every escalation day of this war (two sinkings, the tanker fire, Riyadh airport) BTC sold with equities or did nothing, and on every de-escalation headline it rallied with them. Friday was the exception that proves the rule: BTC −0.5% on a Nasdaq −2.1% day — not a haven bid, an exhausted seller. Gold/BTC at ~51 oz is a cycle high. Verdict unchanged: BTC is a dollar-liquidity proxy with a high beta to the ETF channel, not a safe haven in this war.

BTC vs gold during the conflict: gold +35%, BTC −10% since Feb 28; the ratio has moved monotonically against Bitcoin through every phase (strikes, ceasefire, blockade, MOU, collapse, Hormuz campaign). ETF flows during escalation/de-escalation: the Oct 7–8 outflows (−$729M) coincided with the Riyadh airport attack and the 10Y's 24-year high; the Oct 13 inflow (+$175.7M) with the Thursday-before's de-escalation hopes; the Oct 14 outflow with CPI, not with the war. Flows follow the Fed and the dollar, not the war. Decoupling or correlating with equities under geopolitical stress? 30-day BTC–Nasdaq correlation remains positive and high; Friday's one-day decoupling was flow exhaustion. Stablecoins as capital-flight proxy: total supply ~$309B at the latest tracker; no October acceleration — the Gulf's capital flight is going into Treasuries and UK/Canadian custody (TIC), not into USDT. Country-level adoption: CENTCOM's $350M freeze and the report that Iran is withholding IRGC salaries say Tehran's crypto treasury is being drained, not built; the Hezbollah/Houthi financing channels are the next target. Hash rate / DeFi TVL: no new prints this week; natural-gas import prices +96.5% y/y are a margin headwind for gas-powered US miners (Cipher, IREN −12% on Wednesday).

China/Russia crypto angle: no new Rosneft-USDT or mBridge e-CNY settlement data this week; PBoC's LPR hold Tuesday and the CSI 300's +0.75% Friday say onshore liquidity is steady. The Treasury sanctions package (Thursday: 16 individuals, 10 entities, an Iraqi bank, Iranian offshore banks, Cuba's BICSA) again targeted banks rather than digital-asset entities; the $350M freeze is the first evidence that the rails are being used at a scale worth announcing. Iran–China–Russia crypto rail activity: the freeze headline is the strongest indicator since February that it exists; the absence of exchange designations says enforcement is still upstream of the venues.

G Conviction Views & Trade Ideas

Conviction: HIGH / MEDIUM / LOW. Levels are Friday closes. The Fed is in blackout through Oct 28; the 20Y auction (Wed 1:00pm) and Meta/Tesla (Wed after close) are the week's two binary events.

1. Long 10Y / 2s10s — the trade passed CPI, PPI and TIC; the 20Y auction is the fourth test. Hold, do not add before 1:00pm WednesdayHIGH

Thesis: the 10Y fell 13bp on the week through the hottest inflation data of the year and finished at 5.09% on the day the market learned China's holdings are at a 2008 low and Japan sold 3.2% — the bad news is now public and the price has not broken. Specs net short ~2.9M contracts; $14B MTD into government bond funds; G7 bonds' best week since May; terminal priced at ~4.25%. Friday's bull-steepening (2Y −3bp, 10Y +1bp) is the "one more and done" curve; the flattener leg should be reduced into it and the duration leg kept. Risk/reward: 10Y 5.09 → 4.95% target (+1.2pts), stop a close above 5.33% (Wednesday's high; −2pts); 2s10s take profit on half at +37 (entered +44), leave half for +25, stop +50. What kills it: a 20Y tail >2bp with indirects <60% on Wednesday; a MOVE print above 110; an Iranian signature (reflation bear-steepener). Instruments: TY/US futures, TLT; TU–TY DV01-neutral for the curve; the bull-steepener favours the 10Y point over the 30Y into 20Y supply.

Levels: 10Y 5.05 (Thu low) / 5.09 / 5.15 / 5.19 / 5.25 / 5.33 (stop) / 5.365 (Oct 7). 2Y 4.65 / 4.72 / 4.82 / 4.95. 30Y 5.43 / 5.52 / 5.57 / 5.74 (Oct 7). 2s10s +25 / +32 / +37 / +44 / +50.

2. Long health care + staples vs SOXX/IGV — six of seven sessions paid; the pair is now consensus. Hold full size, add only on a pullbackHIGH

Thesis: Friday delivered XLV record intraday vs SOXX −4.1% (ninth straight loss) and IGV −3%, with RBC formalising the rotation (health care overweight, tech market weight) and Goldman's prime desk reporting the second-fastest AI selling in a year. The short leg is being repriced on financing (CoreWeave 15% yields, −25% w/w; Nebius −11%; software −$130B), which earnings do not fix; the long leg has earnings (ISRG Tue, ABT/TMO/DHR/ELV Wed, GILD Thu) and flows. Risk/reward: XLV/SOXX ratio +10–12% further over 4–8 weeks in the stagflation path (47%); −6% if Meta/Tesla deliver a "capex up, cash-funded" print that squeezes semis. The trade loses in Goldilocks (7%) and a pharma-pricing bust (part of the 23%). Sizing: full; the crowding risk is real, so no adds at the record — add at XLV's 50-day. Instruments: long XLV + XLP vs short SOXX/SMH (beta-neutral ~0.6:1); single names long LLY/UNH/ABT vs short LRCX/AMAT/DELL. Avoid NVDA and MRNA on either leg (Moderna's Ph3 is binary).

Levels: SOXX 9 days down — a +4% day is the squeeze signal; XLV record ~$178–180 / $172 (50-day, add) / $166 (stop on the long leg). Event risk: Meta/Tesla capex Wed, LRCX/TXN Wed, ISRG Tue, ELV Wed.

3. Long silver / SLV from the washout — second confirmation did not come; keep the first third, add only above $58.50MEDIUM

Thesis: Thursday was the first green candle (+2.3%, SLV +3.4% on basket creation); Friday was indecisive — Dec futures +0.6% to +1.4% vs spot −0.7%, week −4.4%, $54.77 low intact, G/S ~73, dollar lower, Fed peak priced (October 15%). Positioning is at a cycle low (managed-money net long 7,528 on Oct 6; the Oct 13 COT was released Friday and should show further liquidation), Jane Street/Citadel/SIG distribution ended two quarters ago, SLV net creations +17M shares since June into a −54% drawdown, COMEX registered rising, LBMA +1.95% m/m. The missing piece is a close above Wednesday's pre-CPI $58.50. Risk/reward: first third on ($56–57.5); add above $58.50 and again above $60; target $62–64 (+10–12%); stop a daily close below $54.50 (−5%). Risk 1:2.2. What kills it: a 20Y tail that sends DXY back above 103 and real yields up — silver falls faster than gold; a Korean margin cascade that liquidates all metals longs. Instruments: SLV/SIVR, SI Dec, or the SLV Dec $55/$62 call spread (~1:3) for defined risk through the FOMC; miners (PAAS, HL, AG) only after a second green close.

Levels: $54.77 (low) / $56 / $57.5 / $58.5 (add) / $60 / $62–64 (target). G/S 73 / 70 / 65. SLV ~$52 / $50 (stop zone) / $56.

4. Long Brent/WTI distillate crack + refiners; add a Brent call spread for the escalation tail — the $110 print validates the war-premium re-expansionMEDIUM

Thesis: Brent +3.7% to $109.86 on the day the IEA announced its last 100M barrels and the US floated shadow-fleet relief — the market has priced both reliefs and is now pricing the attacks (12/week, one vessel lost, Iran claiming three more). Dated Brent ~$130, European diesel 2× YTD, IEA diesel deficit through 2H27, refiners at records, Brent–WTI re-widening to $11 (Gulf risk back in the seaborne benchmark). The crack trade is a logistics problem the SPR cannot solve; the flat-price upside is a Hormuz sinking the market cannot hedge with releases. Risk/reward: cracks +10–15% on escalation, −10% on a formal Russian-tanker easing plus a Hormuz framework; refiners (VLO/MPC/PSX/DK) +8–12% / −8%; the Brent Dec $115/$125 call spread (~1:3) is the defined-risk tail for a US strike before Nov 3 (desk 25%). Reduce VLCC owners (FRO/DHT) tactically into the shadow-fleet decision. Monday risk: WTI Nov expiry with CTAs max-long — a $3–4 air pocket is normal and not a signal.

Levels: Brent $104.60 (Thu low) / $107 / $110 (Fri high) / $115 / $120 (Polymarket "ceasefire before $120" market) / $126 (Apr 30 high). WTI $95 / $98.98 / $101 (Fri high) / $105. Brent–WTI $8 / $11 / $14. Instruments: CRAK, VLO/MPC/PSX/DK, gasoil–Brent crack futures, Brent Dec call spreads; pair long refiners vs short XLE for flat-price neutrality.

5. Bitcoin — stand aside at the floor; the ETF seller is exhausted, the buyer has not appeared. Two entries onlyLOW

Thesis: five sessions in the $80–82K band, Friday's first flat ETF day, a −0.5% close on a Nasdaq −2.1% day — the selling is done, and nothing has replaced it. MSCI's exclusion of treasury companies removes a leveraged buyer in November; the FBTC channel is reducing; the dollar is the only bid. Entries: (i) a daily close above $84.5K with a positive ETF day — momentum long to $88K (6–12-month cost basis), stop $82K; (ii) a flush through $79,400 to $77.2K that prints an ETF inflow within 48 hours — capitulation long, stop $74K, target $85K. No position in between. Macro triggers: DXY below 101.6 + 20Y auction bought = (i); 20Y tail + DXY >102.3 = (ii). ETH: no view until ETH/BTC stops making lows; ETHA outflows are the larger institutional de-risk. MSTR: short the premium-to-NAV into Nov 11 via MSTR vs IBIT if the premium is >1.3× — index mechanics, not a view on BTC.

Levels: $77.2K / $79.4K / $79.7K (Thu low) / $80–82K band / $82.7K (Fri high) / $84.5K (reclaim) / $88K (basis cap). ETH $2,350 / $2,440 / $2,520 / $2,650. Instruments: IBIT/FBTC spot; Oct 31 Deribit $80K put skew; CME basis.

6. Long US defence primes into RTX/NOC (Tue) and LMT (Thu) vs short airlines (UAL Tue) — Rheinmetall just showed what the US names have not pricedMEDIUM

Thesis: S&P 1500 A&D −19% from the August high and LMT −25% from its 2026 high on a midterm/budget narrative, while Rheinmetall led the DAX +5.3% Friday, the war's materiel bill (81 aircraft, interceptor depletion, $87.6B supplemental) is unenacted and bipartisan, and 12 ships a week are being hit. The earnings prints are the catalyst for a backlog-driven guide raise; the ceasefire's 78% is in the price, the replenishment is not. Risk/reward: ITA +10–15% through the lame-duck supplemental vs −8% on a Hormuz agreement plus a Democratic House. Pair against JETS/UAL (reports Tue; jet fuel at $110 Brent is the airline earnings risk) for a war-neutral expression. Instruments: ITA, LMT, RTX, NOC, HII; avoid BA (commercial-aero fuel exposure). Event risk: Anduril/Patriot-alternative headlines, Oct 27 Israeli election, the midterms Nov 3.

Levels: ITA — stop a close below the October low; LMT $400 area as the add zone (verify Monday); RTX into Tuesday's print, no pre-positioning above a 3% gap. JETS short: cover on Brent <$100.

7. SPX Oct 30 put spread / VIX call spread into Meta-Tesla + 20Y + FOMC — the vol curve inverted on Friday; own the event clusterMEDIUM · NEW

Thesis: VIX 16.45 → 19.99 with a 22.31 intraday high on a −1.1% day, the front of the VIX futures curve inverting, SOXX nine days down, the S&P closing below its 50-day (~7,706) with 7,500 the next support into opex — and no Fed speaker to calm anything for eleven days. The event cluster (20Y Wed 1pm, Meta/Tesla Wed 4pm, LMT/PG Thu, flash PMIs Fri, FOMC Oct 28, Q3 GDP + PCE Oct 29) is dense enough that implied vol is still cheap relative to the realised path. Structure: SPX Oct 30 7,500/7,200 put spread (defined risk, ~1:3) or VIX Nov 22/30 call spread; finance with a short Oct 23 7,850 call (the Oct 6 record 7,819 caps). Risk/reward: pays on the bust-quadrant path (23%) and on a 20Y tail; loses the premium in a Meta/Tesla relief rally. This is the hedge for trades 1–4, not a directional short.

Levels: SPX 7,819 (record) / 7,706 (50-day, now resistance) / 7,659 / 7,600 / 7,500 (key) / 7,300. VIX 16.5 / 20 / 22.3 (Fri high) / 25 / 30. Nasdaq 26,140 / 25,500 / 24,800.

H Risk Radar

Top 3 tail risks

1. The 20Y auction becomes a buyer's strike with the Fed in blackout and the top-two foreign holders confirmed as sellers

Wednesday 1:00pm: $13B of 20-year paper, the first coupon supply since the 10Y's 28bp rally from 5.33%, offered to a market that learned on Friday night that China is at a 2008 low ($590.7B, −2.4% m/m) and Japan sold 3.2% in August, with the FY26 deficit at $2.0T and a war supplemental unenacted. The UK/Canada absorption is levered basis-trade flow that steps back when MOVE rises. A tail of 2bp+ with indirects below 60% sends the 10Y back through 5.19% (Wednesday's close) toward 5.33%, reverses the week's rotation (homebuilders, small caps, XLV give back; gold/silver/BTC "Fed is nearly done" trade unwinds), and does so with no Fed speaker able to respond until the 28th. Probability of a 10Y close >5.25% by Friday Oct 23: 25%. Hedge: trade 7; cut trade 1 on the stop, not before.

2. Meta/Tesla capex guidance turns the AI-credit drawdown into a credit event

CoreWeave's 2032s at 15%, the stock −25% in a week, Nebius −11% Friday, a software basket −$130B in a session, SOXX nine days down, Goldman's prime book selling AI at the second-fastest pace in a year, Korea −19% MTD with record household margin debt. Wednesday after the close Meta and Tesla set the capex tone for the entire vendor chain; a "disciplined" or "paced" guide is read as a cut by a market in this state, and a cut is a covenant problem for the GPU-backed loan structures CoreWeave is marketing to insurers. The transmission: hyperscaler capex → neocloud revenue backlog → GPU-collateral valuations → private credit marks → the 2026 IG-structured financing that the FT says is being built. Probability Meta or Tesla guide 2027 capex flat-to-down: 30%; probability of a neocloud financing failure headline by month-end: 15%. Asset path: Nasdaq −5%, 10Y −15bp, HY +40bp, BTC −10%, KOSPI −5%, gold +2%, dollar +0.5%.

3. Escalation past the midterm pause — 12 attacks a week, "nobody to talk to," a regime that cannot pay its Guards

The prediction market (78% ceasefire through the midterms) prices Trump's stated pause; the tape prices a shipping war that is intensifying (UKMTO 12 attacks and one loss in a week; Iran praising strikes on three vessels; Brent $110). Friday added the economic-desperation signal — CENTCOM says Iran is withholding IRGC salaries and pensions with $25B of exports blocked and $350M of crypto frozen — and the diplomatic-dead-end signal: Trump has "nobody to talk to," Mashhad's Alamolhoda says mediation is "deadlocked," the EU summit demanded UNCLOS terms for Hormuz. A regime losing its payroll and its off-ramp at the same time escalates. The accident path: a US-crewed vessel hit, a mass-casualty Houthi strike (Riyadh airport Oct 10: 12 killed, 300+ hurt), or a MOAB strike order before Nov 3. Probability of US strikes on Iranian territory before Nov 3: 27% (from 25%). Asset path: Brent $115–125, 10Y down then up, gold +5%, BTC −10%, defence +8%, airlines −10%, VIX 30.

What would change the base case

The base case (stagflation 47%; Fed holds Oct 28 and hikes Dec 9; 10Y 4.95–5.35%; Brent $100–115; BTC $77–88K; health care/energy over tech) changes on: (i) a Hormuz framework with Iranian signature — Brent <$95, reflation to 35%, bear-steepener, semis squeeze; (ii) a 20Y tail that is not bought by Thursday — 10Y >5.33%, the rotation reverses, stagflation becomes a bond-market event; (iii) Meta/Tesla capex cuts — bust to 35%, long duration the only trade; (iv) China Q3 GDP >4.9% with retail and FAI confirming — reflation regains the lead, copper and KOSPI bottom; (v) October gasoline falling fast enough for a sub-0.2% CPI nowcast with Brent still $110 — the Fed's December hike becomes a debate rather than a consensus, which is bullish gold and silver and bearish the dollar.

Black swans on peripheral vision

Taiwan opportunistic window: two carriers in the Arabian Sea (Bush, Washington), a third (Roosevelt) transiting west, Reagan just deployed, Lincoln and Nimitz in post-deployment stand-down; the Taiex −3.4% Thursday on a record TSMC quarter is the market's own distraction. No PLA/PLAN anomaly reported this week. PLA/PLAN incursions: a large-scale exercise announcement during the Israeli election week (Oct 27) or the US midterm week is the window. Russia second front: Ukraine's refinery-strike pledge against Trump's September "don't hit diesel" request; a US shadow-fleet easing is a Russian win that Kyiv will answer with strikes — a Baltic or Black Sea tanker incident is the swan. Yen: a MoF intervention into an Asian equity liquidation during US pre-market with the Fed silent — the carry unwind that funds EM and crypto longs. Indonesia: the worst day since 1998 is an EM credit tell; a rupiah break is the contagion path to the rest of ASEAN. US sovereign: no agency comment this week; Moody's France review Oct 23 is the term-premium contagion watch. AI espionage warning (DNI, Friday): a state-sponsored breach at a hyperscaler is the one headline that would hit both legs of trade 2.

J Institutional Holders — BTC, GLD, SLV ETF Changes

Latest full 13F quarter: Q2 2026 (period Jun 30, filed by Aug 14). Q3 13Fs (period Sep 30) due Nov 16; early filers remain small (no Jane Street, Citadel, Susquehanna, Morgan Stanley, UBS, BofA, Goldman, JPM, BlackRock, Millennium or sovereign Q3 filing yet). Share counts from EDGAR-parsed data; options are notional shares. Friday fund-level data (iShares/SSGA NAV, shares, ounces) had not been published at compile; the latest official prints (Oct 13–14) are shown with Friday's ETF price moves.

SLV — iShares Silver Trust

Fund data (Oct 14, latest official): net assets $28.90B, shares 547.25M (+450,000 — a second consecutive one-basket creation into the decline), NAV $52.82, ounces ~494.2M (~15,370t). Since Jun 30 (479.8M oz / 530.3M sh): +14.0M oz (+2.9%) and +16.95M shares (+3.2%) of net creations with silver −54% from the January ATH. Thursday SLV +3.39% to $51.92 (outperforming spot — basket creation into the rebound); Friday SLV tracked the futures/spot divergence (Dec +0.6–1.4%, spot −0.7%) — whether a third basket printed is the Monday T+1 check. Q2 13F aggregate 145.7M shares ($7.77B), −5.2% q/q, 107 new / 391 exits, top-10 concentration 44.7%. COT (Oct 6 positions): managed-money net long 7,528 (−86 w/w), OI 105,130; producer/merchant −16,253; swap dealers −25,339; the Oct 13 report (released Friday 3:30pm) was not retrieved — the pre-CPI week should show further managed-money liquidation. Physical: COMEX registered 103.4 Moz (+7.8% 30d), eligible 228.7 Moz; LBMA September 28,985t (+1.95% m/m); no EFP/lease stress. India: August imports 15.5 Moz (+36% y/y), Dhanteras Nov 6. Holder	Q2 2026 shares	q/q change	Signal
Morgan Stanley	13,473,698 ($720M)	+1,248,173 (+10.2%)	#1 holder; Q4'25 was 18.07M — rebuilt after a Q1 cut. The wirehouse channel is the one still creating baskets (two one-basket days into the CPI rout).
UBS	10,475,933	+804,961 (+8.3%)	Accumulating; calls +42%, puts −21%.
Bank of America	9,174,729	+676,873 (+8.0%)	Accumulating.

Options: puts 35.1M (−22%), calls 32.2M (−42%). No regulator has announced a probe. Distribution complete at the market-maker level; desk base case for the Nov 16 filing is <5M shares.
Goldman Sachs	4,130,012	+1,678,374 (+68.5%)	Added shares while flipping options to puts (puts +44%, calls −44%) — a hedged long.
JPMorgan (custodian)	2,622,817	+911,096 (+53.2%)	Q4'25 1.33M → roughly doubled since year-end.
Schonfeld / HRT / Marshall Wace	1.18M / 1.19M / 0.83M	+180% / +76% / +109%	Multi-strats and HFT adding into the drawdown.
Bank of Montreal	995,013	−1,665,363 (−62.6%)	Largest bank cut.
Citadel / Susquehanna	112,395 / 129,444	−95% / −98%	Near-full exits from stock while keeping options (SIG calls 47.8M / puts 26.7M — the largest SLV options book; Citadel calls 31.3M / puts 15.0M).
Saudi Central Bank (SAMA)	621,400 ($31.6M)	unchanged (3 qtrs)	Official-sector silver line held through the crash, the Riyadh strikes and the Aramco hit.
Millennium	193,249	−34%	Calls 1,670,300 vs 88,500 (+1,787%), puts +115% — option-ised.
500%+ Quadrature / TD Bank / Krilogy	362,538 / 245,373 / 201,515	+1,270% / +667% / +2,435%	Flagged per rule; all sub-$25M — quant/dealer inventory and a single RIA, not manipulation-scale.

Read: Q2 was the quarter the market-makers de-risked and the wirehouses added; Q3's net creations (+16.95M shares) and the one-basket creations on Oct 13–14 — into a −1.8% and a −6.1% day — survived the worst two-session fall since January. Positioning is clean, physical is loose, the lower low was made on the Fed, not on silver. The washout-bottom configuration holds; Thursday was the first confirming candle and Friday did not negate it. Watch Monday's SLV NAV/share count and the Oct 13 COT.

GLD — SPDR Gold Shares (and the official sector)

Fund (SSGA, Oct 13, latest official): AUM $141.30B, shares 369.70M (−0.30M ≈ −0.86t redeemed), NAV $382.20; ~1,054t. GLD +1.79% Thursday to $382.71, ~+0.4% Friday with futures; the $150B AUM milestone needs gold ~$4,400 at current shares. IAU: $62.13B / 792.1M sh (−0.75M ≈ −0.44t Oct 14) / ~463t. GLDM: $30.95B / 375.35M sh / ~231t. Flows (through Oct 13): GLD −22,806 oz MTD (−$100.5M), IAU +13,995 oz, GLDM +77,230 oz (+$321.6M); global ETFs net adding on Asia. WGC Q3: record $31B / +211t of ETF inflows. Top institutional holders (Q2 13F): Morgan Stanley, BofA, UBS, JPM and Bridgewater among the top ten; Bridgewater's GLD line is the largest hedge-fund gold position; aggregate 13F GLD holdings ~$538M in early Q3 filers only. PBoC / CBR: WGC — China's 2026 gold imports at a record, PBoC purchases continuing monthly; CBR holdings stable with ruble-settled domestic purchases; no October official-sector print yet (PBoC reserve data ~Nov 7). The de-dollarisation leading indicator is now in the TIC data as well: China's Treasury line at a 2008 low while its gold imports are at a record is the same trade from both sides.

BTC ETFs — IBIT / FBTC / GBTC

Daily flows (Farside, $M): Oct 7 −484.9 (IBIT −207.7) · Oct 8 −244.1 · Oct 12 −65.4 (all IBIT) · Oct 13 +175.7 (FBTC +103.1, IBIT +65.9, MSBT +6.7) · Oct 14 −261.4 (FBTC −152.7, IBIT −110.9, BITB +2.2) · Oct 15 +5.1 (IBIT +16.8, GBTC-mini −7.6, BTCO −4.1) · Oct 16 0.0 reported so far (IBIT/FBTC pending). Week −$80.6M; October −$539.8M (~6,590 BTC); cumulative all-ETF $57.03B; IBIT lifetime $65.64B; US ETFs hold $105.7B = 6.41% of supply. Monthly: Sept +$2.6B, Aug +$3.5B, Jul +$0.17B, Jun −$4.5B. GBTC remains a net-outflow vehicle; the mini trust absorbs conversions. ETH ETFs: Wed −$129.5M (ETHA −$109.8M, ETH −$18.8M), Thu partial −$18.3M. 13F: Q2 institutional IBIT holders were led by Goldman, Brevan Howard, Millennium, Jane Street and Mubadala; Q3 early filers (90+) are small. Index mechanics: MSCI's exclusion of "non-operating companies" (final list Nov 11, effective Nov 30) is the first institutional de-rating of the treasury-company proxy; MSTR's premium to NAV is the pressure point, not spot BTC.

Read: the ETF channel has gone from net seller (Oct 7–8, 14) to flat (Oct 15–16) at the $80–82K cost basis — the seller is exhausted, not reversed. The first +$200M day with BTC above $84.5K is the signal that the wirehouse channel has turned; until then, every bounce is dollar-driven.

Active conflict: US/Israel vs Iran and proxies since Feb 28, 2026 (ceasefire Apr 8; blockade since Apr 13; Islamabad MOU Jun 17; collapse Jul 8; Hormuz campaign ongoing). Figures are the latest confirmed at compile; claims are labelled.

K1) Force Comparison Dashboard — primary belligerents

US forces in / en route to CENTCOM

Carriers — two in theater: USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77, CSG-10, CVW-7; DDGs Donald Cook, Ross) in the Arabian Sea since returning from Phuket; USS George Washington (CVN-73, CVW-5 with F-35C; DDG Shoup) in the Arabian Sea "on operations against Iran." Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71, CSG-9: CVW-11, DDGs Paul Hamilton, Decatur, CG Chosin) transiting the Pacific westward — a third carrier for late October/November. Ronald Reagan departed San Diego Oct 7; Lincoln and Nimitz in post-deployment stand-down. ARGs: Boxer + 11th MEU (Arabian Sea since March); Makin Island + 13th MEU (F-35B) westbound from Pearl Harbor. Independent deployers: Milius, John Paul Jones, Rafael Peralta, John Finn, ESB Miguel Keith, Carl M. Levin; Red Sea: Jason Dunham, Gonzalez. Allies: France deploying assets to Saudi Arabia to protect oil facilities; Macron's Gulf tour Oct 19–21; 22-nation safe-passage statement. CENTCOM (Fri, Adm. Cooper): ~400 merchant transits in the past week, >100M barrels moved with US help, 1.3B barrels in recent months; "the Strait of Hormuz is controlled by the United States and our regional partners, not Iran"; >$25B of Iranian crude exports blocked; ~$350M of cryptocurrency frozen; Iran withholding IRGC salaries and pensions. Strike options (CNN, Thu): GBU-43/B MOAB against energy and nuclear sites if combat resumes — officials question its effectiveness (surface blast, not a penetrator). Casualties: DoD 21 KIA / 865 WIA at last update; no new US casualties reported Friday. Aircraft: CRS 81 lost/damaged, replacement $1.9–3.3B.

Iran & proxies

Navy / strait: UKMTO — 12 attacks on vessels in the past week across Hormuz, the Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, one vessel lost; Iran's interim Friday-prayer leader praised forces for "targeting three vessels" that violated the designated route; IRGC "prohibited zone" across part of the Sea of Oman/Arabian Sea enforced with projectiles, claimed mines and dhow spotters after US strikes degraded coastal radar. Tally: IMO 106 confirmed incidents / 24 seafarer deaths since February (through Thu); October: FT 24 vessels attacked; three total losses in the war (GFS Pride, Cape Dao this week); Windward ~1 in 50 transits hit in Q3. Posture: WSJ — Iran preparing its population for renewed war "in the coming weeks"; Hezbollah ordered to readiness Thursday; Lebanon seized >1,000 lb of Hezbollah explosives (Hezbollah demands their return; Rubio urged Aoun not to); Quds Force overseas unit renamed "Unit 600." A parliament security deputy: Americans, allies and bases are "legitimate targets" if the US uses "unconventional weapons" (the MOAB report). Economy: IRGC salaries/pensions withheld (CENTCOM claim); $25B exports blocked; $350M crypto frozen; Treasury's Thursday package (16 individuals, 10 entities, Iraqi and offshore banks). Houthis: Riyadh airport attack Oct 10 — 12 killed, 300+ wounded; UK advises against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia (attacks since Jul 13); Saudi-led coalition struck Hodeidah smuggling ("we strike them on land and sink them at sea"); Baghaei denies Iran encourages Houthi strikes. Diplomacy: Trump "nobody to talk to," war to end "very, very soon," "Trump Strait"; Pezeshkian "ready for dialogue" but will not "bow to coercion"; Mashhad's Alamolhoda: mediation "deadlocked"; EU summit: Hormuz must follow UNCLOS, Iran must never have a nuclear weapon; Qatar funding south-Lebanon reconstruction.

Key asymmetries

US advantages: two carriers on station, a third transiting; air/naval superiority confirmed by Iran's reliance on dhow spotters; the blockade is working at the fiscal level (IRGC payroll); 400 transits a week and Saudi exports at 8.17 mb/d (from 3.7 in August) prove the convoy/bypass system; sanctions reach extends to Iraqi, Cuban and now crypto rails; France reinforcing Saudi defence. Iranian advantages: geography — 12 hits a week against a convoy system is a 3% strike rate that keeps war-risk cover at 6–10% of hull (up to $20M per VLCC voyage; $2–3B of market-wide claims vs $1.5–2B of annual premium); asymmetric cost (a sub-$1M projectile vs a $110 Brent print); proxy depth (Hezbollah on readiness, Houthis reaching Riyadh); political calendar (the midterms constrain US escalation more than Iran's); a nuclear stockpile (440.9 kg at 60%, IAEA May) bermed against ground raid.

War cost tracker

Direct US cost: ~$113B through June (CRS/press), >$40B direct operations at the last Pentagon update; desk run-rate ~$300–400M/day in the blockade phase (two CSGs, ARG, ISR, interceptor expenditure). Supplemental: $87.6B request unenacted; SM-3 replenishment $6.3B; 12 Apaches; 81 aircraft at $1.9–3.3B. FY2026: deficit $2.0T (+$218B, +12%); outlays +6%; net interest > defense; FY27 Pentagon request $1.5T. Allied/market cost: Howden Re $2–3B war claims; >3,000 Saudi flights cancelled in a week; IEA emergency stocks 330M bbl released + 100M coming; US diesel >$6 (Sept); AAA gasoline $4.33 (vs $3.06 a year ago). Iranian cost: $25B of crude exports blocked (CENTCOM), $350M crypto frozen, IRGC payroll withheld. Key developments, 24–48h: Cooper's 400-transit statement; UKMTO 12/week; Iran's three-vessel claim; Trump "nobody to talk to"; EU summit statement; UK Saudi travel advisory; Lebanon explosives standoff; Saudi strikes on Hodeidah; France → Saudi; CNN MOAB report; two sinkings confirmed (Thu).

K2) Stock Market War Impact Analysis

Beneficiaries

Energy (XLE +2.5% Fri, best sector; XOM/CVX +2.5%; refiners at records; Brent $110; Q3 realised >$100). Defence/aerospace — European names leading (Rheinmetall +5.3% top of the DAX Fri), US primes lagging (A&D −19% from August high, LMT −25% from 2026 high) ahead of RTX/NOC Tue and LMT Thu; the supplemental is the catalyst. Shipping/tankers — war-risk premia 6–10% of hull, VLCC rates record; the shadow-fleet easing study is the risk to owners. Cybersecurity — the DNI's Friday AI-espionage warning; Proofpoint–Varonis $6.3B. Gold miners (NEM reports Thu). Cyclical value / Dow (+0.7% on the week) over growth beta.

Sufferers

Airlines/travel — jet fuel at $110 Brent; UAL reports Tue, AAL Thu; Saudi airspace unsafe (UK advisory), 3,000+ cancellations; consumer discretionary — ex-gasoline retail +0.2%, control group +0.1%, UMich 46.3; AI infrastructure is the war's indirect casualty via the rate path (CoreWeave 15% yields; Nasdaq −4.5% w/w); Korean/Taiwanese tech (KOSPI −19% MTD) as the liquidity proxy; EM (Indonesia worst day since 1998, Turkey −3%); European industrials on energy costs (eurozone HICP 3.8%, energy +18.8%, IP −0.5%). China/Russia defence-industrial exposure: AVIC/CSSC/Norinco Hong Kong lines tracked with the Hang Seng (+1.2% Fri) — no idiosyncratic signal this week.

Engagement	S&P 500 pre-conflict → trough	Recovery	Read-across to 2026
Gulf War (Aug 1990 – Feb 1991)	−19.9% (Jul 16 – Oct 11, 1990)	Recovered the drawdown within ~4 months of the air campaign's start (Jan 17, 1991); +20% in 1991.	The template for an oil-shock recession: the 1990 drawdown came with a Fed that was cutting. Today's Fed is hiking into the shock — the drawdown has been in growth beta (Nasdaq −4.5% w/w, KOSPI −19% MTD), not the index.
Iraq (Mar 2003)	−14% into Mar 11, 2003	+30% by year-end 2003; the "buy the invasion" pattern.	Required a short war and a clear outcome. The 2026 conflict is in its 232nd day with no settlement; the "buy the ceasefire" trade worked once (April) and failed (July).
Libya (Mar–Oct 2011)	−1–2% on the intervention; −19% Jul–Oct 2011 (debt ceiling / Europe)	The war was irrelevant; the fiscal event was not.	The 2011 analogue is the live one: the 2026 drawdown risk is fiscal (20Y auction, $2.0T deficit, foreign selling), not kinetic.
2026 Iran War (Day 232)	S&P −2.0% from Oct 6 record; ≈ +11.9% YTD · Nasdaq −4.5% w/w · KOSPI −19% MTD	Index drawdown remains shallow; the dispersion (energy/health care vs AI/semis) is the war's equity signature.	Shallower than every prior engagement at the index level because the Treasury is doing the stimulus; deeper than all of them in the capex cohort because the Fed is doing the tightening.

Defence tracker: LMT (−25% from 2026 high; C-130J/E-130J TACAMO delivery Fri; reports Thu), RTX and NOC (report Tue), GD (Oct 22 week), BA (avoid — fuel-exposed commercial book). European: Rheinmetall +5.3% Fri (top DAX gainer). Friday US prime closes were not retrieved individually; ITA tracked the Dow (−0.3%) rather than the Nasdaq.

K3) Treasury Yield Spike Indicators — Traffic Light Dashboard

#	Indicator	Status	Reading
1	War spending fiscal blowout (>$50B/qtr unbudgeted → RED)	AMBER	$87.6B supplemental unenacted; FY26 deficit $2.0T (+$218B) confirmed Friday; net interest ~$1.1T; FY27 request $1.5T. Not RED until the supplemental is appropriated or the October borrowing estimate exceeds CBO.
2	CPI re-acceleration (>0.4% m/m energy-led → RED)	RED	Sept CPI +0.6% (gasoline +9.1%); PPI +1.3%; import prices +1.1% / 8.1% y/y, export prices +2.15% / 11.6% (Fri) — the pipeline is confirmed at three stages. Mitigant: AAA gasoline $4.33 vs $4.37 a month ago; October CPI nowcast ~+0.3%.
3	Term premium expansion (ACM)	AMBER	ACM 10Y term premium ~+0.9–1.0% at last read; compressed this week with the 10Y −13bp while the 2Y fell 5bp less — then re-steepened Friday on the front end. France at a 25-year term-premium high (WGC); Moody's France review Oct 23 is the contagion watch. AMBER on level, neutral on direction.
4	Treasury auction demand (10Y/30Y bid-to-cover)	GREEN	No coupon supply this week; bills in line. 20Y $13B Wed Oct 21 1:00pm is the test after a 28bp rally and a foreign-selling print; 5Y TIPS Thu. A tail >2bp with indirects <60% flips to AMBER; a stop-through confirms the duration trade.
5	Foreign holder selling (TIC Japan/China)	RED ▲	Flipped Friday. August TIC: China $590.7B (−2.4% m/m; lowest since Aug 2008; −16% y/y), Japan $1.068T (−3.2% m/m) — a second consecutive month of net selling by both top-two official holders (July: China $618.0B, Japan $1,103.9B). Offset: total holdings +$83B to $9.331T on UK (+1.1% to $1.009T) and Canada (+4.2% to $490.5B) — levered/custodial flow, price-sensitive. Net TIC inflow $199.8B; Treasuries +$108.9B. Fed custody holdings −$15.6B in the latest week.
6	Fed rhetoric shift (tolerating higher inflation → AMBER)	AMBER	Warsh declined to pre-commit and framed AI as productivity-positive; the market read it as "no October" (15%) and priced December (74–79%). Not tolerance by the Fed; tolerance by the market's read of a silent Fed. Hammack/Goolsbee/Williams hawkish; blackout through Oct 28 freezes the colour.
7	Fiscal deficit trajectory (CBO, supplementals)	RED	FY26 $2.0T (+12%) confirmed; outlays +6%, receipts +3%; net interest > defense and Medicare; war supplemental pending; no offsets. Structural RED.
8	Credit rating watch	GREEN	No US sovereign agency comment this week. Moody's France review Oct 23 is the sovereign-contagion watch (BTP–Bund 105bp, 18-month wide).
9	2s10s bear steepening	GREEN	2s10s +37bp from +32 Friday — a bull-steepener (2Y −3bp, 10Y +1bp) on Warsh; the week was a bull-flattener (+44 → +37). Not the spike signature. Flips to AMBER on a 10Y close >5.25% with the 2Y flat.
10	MOVE Index (>120 → RED)	GREEN	MOVE 102.5 (Thu, +3.45%); Friday not retrieved but a +1bp 10Y / −3bp 2Y day is low-vol-consistent. Below 120; above 110 is the basis-trade warning.

Summary light: AMBER, at the RED threshold's doorstep — 3 RED (CPI/import prices, foreign selling, fiscal trajectory), 3 AMBER (war spending, term premium, Fed rhetoric), 4 GREEN. The count moved from 2 RED to 3 on Friday's TIC. The dashboard's definition of RED is 4+ indicators; the fourth is one 20Y auction tail (#4) or one MOVE print above 120 (#10) away. The price has not yet confirmed the dashboard — the 10Y is 5.09%, 24bp below Wednesday's high — which is exactly the configuration in which the auction matters most.

K4) Commodity War Premium Analysis

Brent war premium

~$37

$109.86 vs $72.48 pre-war (Feb 27)

Dated Brent ~$130 (physical premium ~$20 over futures). Brent +3.7% Fri, first $110 since May; Brent–WTI ~$11 (from $8) — the Gulf premium is back in the seaborne benchmark. Hormuz traffic: CENTCOM ~400 transits/week (~57/day vs ~85–135/day pre-crisis depending on counter); Kpler area flows 11.62 vs 17.15 mb/d baseline (−5.5 mb/d); ~40% of Gulf crude bypassing by pipeline (Petroline 7.0 mb/d capacity, ADCOP 1.5 at 100%); Saudi exports 8.17 mb/d Oct 1–15 (5.62 Sep, 3.70 Aug). Scenarios: Eurasia $110–125 on resumed fighting; Goldman/JPM bands $95–130; Polymarket "ceasefire before $120" market live; crude ATH by Dec 31 ~11%. Duration: IEA diesel deficit through 4Q26, no restocking before 2H27; 2027 demand 620 kb/d below 2025. Iraq: production status not updated; Iraqi bank sanctioned Thu. Emergency stocks: IEA 330M released, final 100M in progress — the release is priced; the attacks are not.

Gold & silver safe-haven read

G/Oil 38

Gold ~7.5% below 200-DMA · G/S ~73

Gold futures $4,188.80 (+0.45%), flat on the week through CPI/PPI/import prices and a $110 Brent — it is holding on a Fed-peak bid, not rallying on war. Gold/oil 38 vs ~75 pre-war: still an energy shock, not a monetary one. Silver spot ~$57.0 (−0.7%; week −4.4%), Dec futures firmer; industrial demand discounted (solar −19% in 2026), monetary demand returning as the ratio turns; SLV basket creation into the decline. Central banks: WGC — China's 2026 gold imports at a record, PBoC buying continuing; the TIC print (China Treasuries at a 2008 low) is the other side of the same trade; SAMA's SLV line unchanged. Flows: GLD −22.8k oz MTD vs GLDM +77k oz; WGC Q3 record $31B / +211t. Gold +~35% since Feb 28; gold/BTC ~51 oz (cycle high).

Energy infrastructure damage tracker

~5.5 mb/d

Hormuz-area flow shortfall (Kpler, wk to Oct 13)

Hit: Aramco Dhahran HQ (upper floors, Sept); Saudi East–West pipeline segment (Sept, repaired; Petroline at 38% of 7.0 mb/d capacity); Syria's Jbessa gas export pipeline (Thu); Iraqi refineries (Iranian-proxy strikes, status not updated); Barakah (UAE) drone strike May 17 (no release); Yemen: Saudi-coalition strikes on Hodeidah and an oil firm. Shipping losses: GFS Pride (container) and Cape Dao (bulker) sunk this week; one further vessel lost per UKMTO; 106 IMO incidents / 24 seafarer deaths. Offline/at risk: Iranian exports ~$25B blocked (blockade); Hormuz-area flows −5.5 mb/d vs baseline; ~170 ships anchored off Dubai; 45 AIS-dark tankers. Repair timeline: flows are a security problem, not a repair problem — the IEA's "no restocking before 2H27" is the binding constraint; Saudi exports' recovery to 8.17 mb/d shows the bypass is near capacity. Russia: Ukraine claims 42.7% of Russian refining capacity affected (Reuters ~17% in spring); Kyiv pledged more strikes Friday; US shadow-fleet easing under study.

K5) War Impact on Bitcoin & Crypto Markets

Dimension	Reading	Signal
Escalation vs de-escalation price action	Escalation days (Oct 7–8 Riyadh/24-yr yields: BTC −6% with −$729M ETF outflows; Thu sinkings: BTC to $79.7K); de-escalation (Oct 13 hopes: +$175.7M, BTC +2%). Friday: Brent +3.7%, 12 attacks/wk, BTC −0.5% — no reaction either way.	Risk-on proxy; now flow-exhausted
Correlation: S&P/Nasdaq vs gold during conflict	30-day BTC–Nasdaq correlation positive and high; BTC–gold near zero to negative (gold +35% since Feb 28, BTC −10%); gold/BTC ~51 oz cycle high. Friday's one-day decoupling (Nasdaq −2.1%, BTC −0.5%) is seller exhaustion, not a haven bid.	Correlated with equities
Crypto as sanctions-evasion tool	CENTCOM (Fri): ~$350M of cryptocurrency frozen as part of operations against Iran — the first military-command disclosure of a digital-asset enforcement figure; alongside $25B of blocked crude and withheld IRGC pay. Treasury's bank-focused sanctions (Iraqi, offshore Iranian, Cuban) now have a crypto counterpart. Exchange designations remain the next step.	Evidence confirmed; enforcement upstream
Stablecoin market cap (capital-flight indicator)	~$309B at the latest tracker; no October acceleration. Gulf capital flight is visible in TIC (UK +$11B, Canada +$20B of Treasuries) and in gold, not in USDT. A $5B+ weekly USDT mint would change the read.	No capital-flight signal
Mining / hash rate	No new hash-rate print; imported natural-gas prices +96.5% y/y and Henry Hub ~$3.2 squeeze gas-powered US miners (Cipher/IREN −12% Wednesday). Difficulty unaffected; the margin hit lands in Q4 reports.	Margin headwind, not supply
DeFi TVL under geopolitical stress	No new print; ETH −38.8% y/y and ETHA outflows (−$110M Wed) say the institutional de-risk is concentrated in the smart-contract layer. ETH/BTC 0.030 at the lows.	Contracting with ETH
Historical analogues	Russia–Ukraine Feb 2022: BTC −10% in the first week, then correlated with the Nasdaq's 2022 bear (−65% on the year); gold +6% then faded. Israel–Hamas Oct 2023: BTC +25% in a month on ETF-approval flows — the ETF, not the war. 2026: the ETF channel is the swing factor again, and it is flat-to-negative.	Flow regime dominates war regime

L Geopolitical Escalation / De-escalation Probability Tracker

Ceasefire holds through the midterms (Nov 3)

Polymarket 78% (77.5%; $322K volume) · desk 70%↔

Signals to watch: the next Iranian reply via Pakistan (Munir channel); Macron's Gulf tour Oct 19–21 (a French-brokered Hormuz "UNCLOS corridor" text is the EU summit's ask); Araghchi–US meeting by Dec 31 (Polymarket 36%); Witkoff travel (35%); a week with <6 UKMTO incidents; Saudi exports above 8.5 mb/d; IRGC payroll resumption (a sign Tehran has found liquidity and can afford to wait). Why desk is below market: 12 attacks and a sinking a week, Trump "nobody to talk to," Alamolhoda's "deadlock," Hezbollah on readiness and the explosives standoff are the signature of a regime whose exit options are narrowing faster than its cash.

US strikes on Iranian territory before Nov 3

Desk 27% (from 25%)▲

Triggers to monitor: a US-flagged or US-crewed vessel hit; a mass-casualty Houthi strike on a Gulf airport or US base (Riyadh Oct 10: 12 killed / 300+ hurt); confirmation of Iranian mines in the convoy lane; a Hezbollah attack on Israeli forces with the seized explosives returned; the third carrier (Roosevelt) arriving in theater (late Oct); a MOAB strike order (CNN); the Israeli election Oct 27 (Netanyahu: a pre-emptive strike before it is "not convenient" — after it is another matter). Hormuz agreement by year-end: Polymarket 30%. Ceasefire through Dec 31: 32%.

Diplomatic channels

Pakistan remains the primary mediator (Islamabad venue; army chief Munir central; the June MOU was signed there) — Ghalibaf's seven conditions "based on the Islamabad memorandum" are Tehran's text; Washington has made "some proposals through a mediator" and Trump rejected the seven-day reopening plan. China is involved per the White House (Leavitt) and is the one vertex with leverage on both Tehran and the oil price; its Treasury selling is its own signal. Qatar is funding Lebanon's reconstruction — the Hezbollah-disarmament track runs through Doha and Beirut (Aoun/Salam), with Rubio pressing on the explosives. France is deploying to Saudi Arabia and Macron tours the Gulf Oct 19–21 — the EU summit's UNCLOS language is the European position. UNSC is blocked (Russia/China vetoed the April force resolution); the EU statement substitutes. Back-channels: Witkoff/Kushner/Vance on the US side, Araghchi/Ghalibaf on Iran's — Trump's "nobody to talk to" says the Supreme Leader's authority is the obstacle, which is the structural problem no mediator fixes.

Impact per scenario

Scenario	Prob.	Brent	10Y	SPX / Nasdaq	Gold / Silver	BTC	DXY	Defence / Airlines
Status quo: blockade + shipping war through the midterms	55%	$100–115	4.95–5.35%	7,500–7,800 / rotation continues	$4,100–4,300 / $55–60	$77–88K	101–103	+5% / −5%
Hormuz framework with Iranian signature (UNCLOS corridor, tolls dropped, blockade eased)	18%	$85–95	5.20–5.40% (bear-steepener)	+3–5% / semis squeeze +8%	−3% / +2% (ratio falls)	+10–15%	100–101	−8% / +12%
US strikes resume (MOAB / energy-nuclear sites); Iranian regional retaliation	27%	$115–125 (Eurasia band)	down then up: 4.90% → 5.40%	−5–8% / −10%	+5% / +3%	−10%	103–104	+8% / −10%

Net read: the market prices the first row at 78% and the desk at 70%; the difference is the 12-attacks-a-week tape and a regime that cannot pay its Guards. The asymmetry is in the third row — every asset's move is larger — which is why trade 7 (vol) and the Brent call spread in trade 4 exist. The second row is the only one in which the week's winning positions (duration, health care vs semis, energy) all lose at once; it requires an Iranian signature that Friday's statements moved further away.
