⚠ Overnight tape read — Sunday into Monday

Sunday added a fourth wave at Riyadh and a third front at sea without adding a decision in Washington. The Houthis struck King Khalid International Airport again Sunday evening — a fire in the terminal complex, more injuries, closure extended to midnight Monday, Lufthansa out until Oct 16, Riyadh schools online for the week — and Brig. Gen. Saree declared every Saudi airport outside Mecca and Medina a "theatre of operations." Trump's position moved from "We may… we move very quickly" on Saturday to "We're going to look at it… We'll find out" on Sunday, with a call to MBS pending: the Yemen decision is live and unmade. In the strait, the IRGC Navy said a shuttle tanker carrying 750,000 barrels hit a mine and caught fire — Tasnim called it the third tanker to hit a mine on Sunday — while off Oman the Indian-crewed MT Petro Dolphin was drone-struck at Sohar anchorage (9 rescued, 2 missing) and the Marshall Islands-flagged MT Valthera took a projectile and burned (11 crew safe). TankerMap counts zero tanker transits of Hormuz on both Saturday and Sunday; straits.live has ~110 vessels stranded and throughput at ~5% of normal. On the diplomatic track, SNSC secretary Rezaei called the US reply to Iran's seven conditions "INADEQUATE" — some accepted, "no return to the status quo ante," Washington "smuggling" oil through the strait — but Saudi FM Faisal bin Farhan and Araghchi spoke for the first time since the Houthi escalation, a de-escalation channel the Riyadh attack opened rather than closed. The IRGC posted an image of a missile battery aimed at a carrier captioned "We are waiting" as the Theodore Roosevelt CSG heads for CENTCOM (arrival late November per WSJ). Washington's other front produced the weekend's most market-relevant headline: Trump declared on Truth Social that "effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE" between Russia and Ukraine; Zelensky told Axios it "was news for me" but Ukraine will agree if Moscow does; the Kremlin was silent. Add the Saturday DOE emergency exchange of up to 4M barrels from an SPR already at its lowest since 1982 (132M withdrawn since February), Shell/Chevron/BP re-manning Gulf platforms, and Goldman raising its December Brent forecast to $90 from $85 while calling the risk premium "just over $20" — and the oil tape did what the headlines implied: Brent opened Globex at $105.48 (+0.73%, Reuters 23:04 GMT), then faded to ~$103.6 (−1.0%) by 00:10 UTC. Crypto was quiet and firm: BTC $83,570 (+0.8%, 24h range $82,716–84,126), ETH $2,534 (+1.2%), Fear & Greed 61 (from 64). Monday is an equity-only US session — cash Treasuries closed, Tokyo closed, Hammack at 12:10pm, the EU adopting 1,646 Russia listings in Luxembourg, IMF/World Bank opening in Bangkok. Three things to price before CPI Wednesday: a US strike package for Yemen, whether Russia confirms the energy ceasefire, and whether the Faisal–Araghchi line becomes a mediation channel.

A Executive Summary — The Big Picture (Dalio Lens)

Where we are: Late cycle, two-speed, and the gap widened again over the weekend. The nominal economy is hot: GDPNow 3.6% for Q3, ISM services 58.8 and manufacturing 55.9 (both at cycle highs in September), S&P 500 Q3 EPS consensus +29.5% y/y with energy +114% and semis +130%, TSMC's Q3 revenue +50% y/y printed ahead of Thursday, the index 0.1% from its record. The real economy is cold: Michigan current conditions 44.7 — the lowest in the survey's history — payrolls +29k with −60k of revisions, unemployment 4.2%, Delta's fuel bill +62% y/y, a 7.40% mortgage rate, HY spreads widening to 315bp, diesel at $6.28, and consumer confidence at 46.3. The Fed has resolved the two speeds into one more hike: minutes say "most" see another increase by year-end, prediction markets price December at 73–74% and October at 16%. The cycle's defining tension stands: a central bank hiking into a record-low current-conditions print, with an equity market that answered on Friday by buying Utilities and Staples at the high. Nothing in the weekend tape changed that — it added a second war front financed at the front end, and a Russian supply deal that trades distillate disinflation for a transatlantic policy split.

Dominant regime: Reflation on the nominal data, stagflation on the real data, and the energy shock decides which one the CPI prints as. September CPI consensus is +0.6% m/m / 3.6% y/y (core +0.2% / 2.5%); the Cleveland nowcast is +0.53% / 3.60%. The gold/oil ratio at 39.8 (vs ~75 pre-war) says the shock is still an energy shock, not a monetary one; the day that ratio turns is the day the regime label changes. Three new supply-side variables landed in 48 hours: GL-135 Russian diesel (~22.5M bbl through April 2027), a declared Russia–Ukraine energy ceasefire that would stop refinery strikes if real, and a 4M-barrel SPR exchange — all disinflationary at the margin, all after September's print is already in the bag. The desk's regime call: late-cycle reflation with a stagflation vector; probability of the stagflation quadrant by Q1 2027: 38% (from 37%).

Beautiful deleveraging status: Absent. Monetary policy is restrictive by every market measure (10Y TIPS 2.91% real, 10Y 5.24%, 30Y mortgage 7.40%) and the Fed calls it insufficiently tight; fiscal policy is expansionary (CBO FY2026 deficit $2.0T, debt $40.31T against a $41.1T ceiling, interest ~$1.1T) and about to get a second claimant: a US campaign against the Houthis, with interceptor stocks "dwindling" (AP), Saudi soliciting France/UK/Pakistan/Egypt for air defense, and the $87.6B supplemental parked until the Senate returns Nov 9. The only deleveraging agents are foreign official buyers absorbing 5%+ auctions (80.3% indirect at the 10Y, 72.3% at the 30Y) and central banks converting reserves to gold (PBoC +21t in September, 23rd straight month). Private leverage keeps migrating up the stack — Strategy at 848k BTC with no mNAV premium, miners selling treasury, the ETF complex bleeding $681M in a week. The weekend's SPR exchange is the symptom: a strategic reserve at 1982 lows being lent to Exxon and BP for a two-week hurricane outage because distillate inventories have "zero tolerance for any disruptions."

Risks vs. opportunities: The risk is sequencing. Wednesday's CPI lands two days after a bond-market holiday and two days before August TIC; a 0.6% headline with 0.3% core and official foreign selling would remove the long end's floor in the same week Trump may open a Yemen front with no supplemental. The second risk is the AI denominator: SOX −4.3% on the week with no bounce, Apple's component cuts, and TSMC's Q4 guide Thursday against a 29.5% EPS bar at a 5.24% discount rate. The opportunity is unchanged and the weekend improved it: a Fed hiking into a stalling consumer is a flattener machine, the Yemen front is a front-end funding event, and three disinflationary supply headlines (GL-135, energy ceasefire, SPR) arrived in 48 hours while the market pays 5.24% for US duration with a proven foreign bid at the level. Defense is the only unambiguous earnings positive to come out of the weekend. What the market is not pricing: that a US strike on Yemen is not a pledge break — it is the lowest-cost political escalation available and the one no probability market quotes.

Great-power frame: Washington–Moscow is now the war's most active channel: Putin relays Tehran's position, holds the HEU-to-Russia offer, has a six-month diesel license worth ~22.5M barrels, and — per Bloomberg (Oct 10) — is shipping missiles to Iran via the Caspian while Trump declares an energy ceasefire the Kremlin has not confirmed. Russia is mediator, supplier to both sides, and sanctions-relief beneficiary simultaneously; Bessent's "Iran is the biggest loser" framing on Fox is the administration's answer. Washington–Beijing: silent on Riyadh; PBoC fixing 640 pips firmer than estimate and buying gold at the fastest pace in three years; Liaowang-1 and Type 055 presence in the Gulf of Oman gives Tehran a sensor bubble on US fleet movements; APEC Shenzhen Nov 18–19. Tehran: three tracks still unaligned — a civilian track (Pezeshkian "revised proposals," Araghchi now talking to Riyadh), an SNSC/IRGC track (Rezaei "inadequate," mines, "we are waiting"), and a Houthi track that struck Riyadh four times in 48 hours. Markets price 76% that the ceasefire holds through the midterms; they do not price what happens in Yemen before then.

C Cross-Asset Analysis (Druckenmiller Lens)

Bonds vs. equities: The bond market closed the week saying "one more hike, then watch the consumer" — 2Y +5bp Friday on the front end, 10Y +2bp, 2s10s flattening to +44bp from +54bp at Wednesday's 5.37% high. The equity market closed saying "earnings are fine, rotate defensively" — Utilities +4.0%, Staples +3.6%, Energy +3.6% on the week while Tech fell 0.5% and SOX fell 4.3%, and the equal-weight index beat the cap-weight by 45bp. These are the same message from two sides: nominal growth strong enough to hold a 29.5% EPS bar, real growth weak enough to make a 5.24% 10Y feel like a ceiling. The divergence to watch Monday is intra-day and structural: the stock market trades the weekend's news for a full session before the bond market can express a view on it. On Tuesday the cash curve opens into CPI with the Yemen decision, the energy-ceasefire confirmation (or not) and bank earnings already priced in equities. A 10Y that opens Tuesday above 5.30% says the weekend was a fiscal event; one that opens below 5.20% says the energy-ceasefire/GL-135/SPR trio won the inflation argument.

Risk assets vs. safe havens: Friday had the only clean divergence of the week — gold +1.5% and silver +2.8% on a flat dollar and a flat 30Y, with the S&P +0.6%: both bid, neither at the other's expense. The weekend's haven test was conducted with the bond market shut: gold's Asia print is not yet retrievable; Brent opened higher and faded; BTC rose 0.8% in a $1,400 range. Tadawul fell 0.15% on breadth of 107/151 — the regional risk market shrugged off the deadliest attack on Saudi soil in a decade. The pattern across the war holds: havens are bid on structural flows (official gold buying, 80% indirect at auctions), not on headlines; risk assets are bid on earnings and liquidity, not on peace. The SKEW at 154 while VIX sits at 14.8 is where the divergence is actually being expressed — tail protection is being accumulated at the highs, quietly.

Liquidity: Contracting at the margin in the US, expanding at the margin everywhere else. Fed hiking with QT at a residual pace; ETF flows negative across crypto (−$1.25B last week); USDC −$1.1B w/w while USDT +$165M — regulated onshore dollar draining, offshore dollar growing. Against that: China's PBoC fixing 640 pips firmer and buying 21t of gold; Japan's Takaichi floating spending reviews only "if yields move sharply"; Europe's first positive gold-ETF quarter since 2021; MOEX +5.35% on the week on sanctions relief; India defending the rupee with "strong measures." Global liquidity is being redistributed toward the Treasury auction (official bid) and away from US risk rails (ETF outflows, HY widening to 315bp). Net: neutral-to-tightening for US duration-sensitive assets, supportive for gold and for non-US cyclicals — which is exactly what the sector tape printed.

Dollar: DXY 102.24, +4.0% YTD, +2.9% on the month — but flat on the week despite a 10Y at 5.24% and a Fed hiking. The dollar is not rallying on carry; it is holding on the fiscal discount and on EUR weakness (1.12, 17-month low Oct 5, OAT–Bund 137bp, Moody's France Oct 23). Implications: for commodities, a dollar that cannot rally on 5% yields removes the usual headwind — Brent at $105 and gold at $4,194 coexist with DXY at 102 because the dollar's bid is defensive, not aggressive; for EM, the pain is bilateral (INR 96.5 at record lows, KOSPI −5.4% w/w) rather than broad; for crypto, the −0.23 BTC–DXY correlation is the weakest macro link in the complex — the 2Y matters, the dollar does not. The trade: if Wednesday's CPI prints hot and DXY still cannot break 102.50, the market has told you the dollar's ceiling is fiscal, and the next move in EUR/USD is up, not down. USD/JPY at 158.3 into the BoJ Oct 29–30 is the pressure point — Takaichi's "review spending if yields move" is the MoF's intervention tell.

Current conditions 44.7, payrolls +29k, real wages negative, HY 315bp, mortgage 7.40%, DAL guide cut, Russell down on the week — the real economy is already here; only the nominal data keeps the label off. Trigger: Thursday's retail sales ex-autos negative in real terms after a 0.6% CPI, or a US Yemen campaign that adds $10 to Brent. Winners: gold (the monetary bid finally arrives), TIPS, defense, staples, cash. Losers: everything long-duration, credit, EM importers, BTC on the Nasdaq beta. Up one point on the Houthi front.

▲ Growth / ▼ Inflation — Goldilocks15%

Requires the supply trio (GL-135, energy ceasefire confirmed by Moscow, SPR) plus a framework deal that reopens Hormuz: Brent $85–92, CPI back under 3% by Q1, Fed pauses in December, 10Y 4.85–5.00%. Winners: SOX, small caps, airlines (+15%), EM, EUR. Losers: energy, defense, gold initially, the dollar. The Faisal–Araghchi call and Russia's mediator role are the only live paths here; Rezaei's "inadequate" and the IRGC's mines are the obstacles. Down two points.

▼ Growth / ▼ Inflation — Deflationary bust7%

A policy-error path: the Fed hikes in December into a consumer already at record-low current conditions, the AI capex cycle cracks (TSMC guide, hyperscaler Oct 28–29), HY blows past 400bp and the long end finally catches a bid for the wrong reason. Winners: long Treasuries, dollar, cash, volatility. Losers: everything else, crypto most on the 0.68 Nasdaq beta. The SKEW at 154 is the market's quiet hedge against this quadrant.

Assessment: We are in reflation and drifting toward stagflation at roughly one point per week; the weekend moved the stagflation probability up (second front, mines, zero Hormuz tanker transits) and the Goldilocks probability down (Rezaei), with the supply trio as the offset that keeps the drift slow. The Fed's reaction function makes the drift self-reinforcing: it is hiking the nominal side while the real side rolls. Wednesday's CPI is the quadrant vote — a 0.6% headline with 0.3% core moves the stagflation reading above 40% and puts the flattener, gold and defense in the same book; a 0.4% headline with 0.1% core keeps reflation in charge and lets SOX bounce into TSMC.

E Sector & Theme Spotlight

Momentum / inflection

1. Defense & air-defense replenishment — inflection, with the catalyst live. The group de-rated through the war (NOC −15.7% YTD, HII −22%, LHX −19.3%, ITA −4.5% vs S&P +14%) while the order book inflated: $6.3B SM-3 IB multi-year to Raytheon, PAC-3 "Edge," Saudi air-defense requests to France/UK/Pakistan/Egypt, US interceptor stocks "dwindling," a $32.4B unfunded replenishment line, and now a Riyadh airport struck four times in 48 hours with Trump "looking at" US participation. Earnings: RTX and NOC Oct 20, LMT Oct 22, BA Oct 27, GD Oct 28–30. Europe is the laggard with the same thesis: Rheinmetall €939 near its 52-week low, BAE 1,860p; the EU's 1,646 Russia listings Monday and a Russia–Ukraine energy ceasefire that Moscow has not confirmed cut both ways. Second-level: the market treats a Yemen campaign as a geopolitical negative; for this group it is a replenishment order without a de-escalation offset.

2. Energy distillate complex — momentum, but the marginal supply is now political. ULSD–Brent crack ≈$100/bbl, distillate stocks at 1982 lows, diesel $6.28, East Coast inventories −30% vs 5-yr. The weekend added three supply headlines that are all disinflationary for products and none of which are physically confirmed: GL-135 Russian diesel (300k t "immediately," 1M t/month later — Ukraine says refinery strikes continue, a suspected drone burned the Yug Rusi terminal Saturday), the energy ceasefire (Kremlin silent), and the 4M-bbl SPR exchange (crude, not distillate, to XOM/BP). Refiners (VLO, MPC, PSX) carry the crack; tankers (FRO +6.4% w/w, DHT +4.1%) carry the freight at 25–30% of Gulf crude cost. Goldman's $90 December Brent is the risk to the long side; Hormuz at zero tanker transits Sat–Sun is the risk to Goldman.

3. Defensive rotation inside the index — momentum confirmed. Utilities +4.0%, Staples +3.6%, Health +2.8% on a week the index rose 1.15% to within 0.1% of its record: the market is paying for duration-insensitive cash flows at the high while SOX falls 4.3% and the Russell falls 0.9%. Equal-weight +1.6% vs cap-weight +1.15%. Banks (Tue–Wed) decide whether the rotation has a credit leg: ~$19B of equities-trading revenue is the known positive; consumer credit after $6 diesel is the unknown.

Contrarian — second-level thinking (Marks)

Long Treasuries vs. the consensus short. Everyone knows the fiscal deficit is $2.0T, that the Fed is hiking, that CPI is 0.6% on Wednesday and that a Yemen campaign adds war cost — so the 10Y at 5.24% already contains the first-level conclusion. The second-level question is who is on the other side: 80.3% indirect at the 10Y auction, 72.3% at the 30Y, Europe's first positive gold-ETF quarter, the BoK initiating a GLD line — the official sector is buying the safest assets at 5%, and a Fed hiking into 44.7 current conditions is building the recession that makes 5.24% look like a gift. The payoff is asymmetric because the stop (5.45%+ on a fiscal blowout) is loud and the target (4.85% on a consumer crack) is quiet. Short the semiconductor consensus into TSMC. TSMC's Q3 revenue beat (+50%) is known and SOX still fell 4.3% — the stock market is telling you the Q4 guide is the risk, not the Q3 print. Long Saudi/Gulf risk after the shock. Tadawul −0.15% on 107/151 breadth for the deadliest attack since 2015 is a market that has already priced the war; the Faisal–Araghchi call is the first direct Saudi–Iran de-escalation contact since the Houthi front opened. Avoid the obvious crypto haven trade. BTC +0.8% on a weekend with three mine strikes and a terminal fire is not a safe haven; it is a risk asset with its reference index closed.

F Crypto Deep Dive

BTC / ETH — price, on-chain, correlation

BTC $83,570 at 00:10 UTC (+0.8% 24h; 24h range $82,716–84,126; VWAP $83,353): the weekly close printed ~$83,000 and held the $82,500 line that Saturday's edition made the bias switch — bias stays range-bound, not long. Resistance $84,000–85,000 is where long-term holders bought in September and where every reclaim attempt has been sold; support $80,000 (Thursday's low $80,350), then the mid-$70Ks on a break. The 2026 open at $87,570 remains the triple-top ceiling; ATH $126,080 is 34% above. Fear & Greed 61 (from 64 Saturday, 59 Friday) — "Greed" on a −5% YTD asset is a sentiment-price divergence worth noting. On-chain (carried from the weekend parse; no Sunday update at compile): STH capitulation Thursday (55.6k BTC moved at a loss), whales +15k BTC over 72 hours into the dip, Glassnode $81K bid cluster, funding flat, put/call 0.59. ETH $2,534 (+1.2%; 24h $2,495–2,552), ETH/BTC 0.0303 — bouncing from the $2,414 Thursday low into a $2,500 "floor" that is pressure, not a confirmed bottom; nine straight ETF outflow days (−$697M) with ETHA 88% of the selling says the marginal ETH holder is still an advisor-channel allocator exiting. SOL $111.1 (+1.0%), XRP $1.406 (+0.4%). 30-day correlations: BTC–Nasdaq 0.68, BTC–S&P 0.63, BTC–gold 0.45, BTC–10Y −0.37, BTC–DXY −0.23 — tech proxy with a gold tilt. Monday's equity-only session is the first time since Thursday that BTC trades alongside its reference index.

Regulatory landscape

No new federal action Oct 10–11. Standing items: Blumenthal's Cantor letter on Tether (reply due Oct 23); GENIUS Act Treasury NPRM comments close Oct 19; SEC Reg Crypto Assets comments close Oct 20; Thailand's BTC/ETH ETF rules effective Oct 16 (the Bangkok IMF/World Bank week); ETHA's 1-for-3 reverse split (Oct 6) coincided with the −$202M single-day outflow. Bessent's "absolute isolation" framework (oil revenue, overseas finance, transport, crypto) is the stated channel for the next Iran action; his Fox interview Sunday was about diesel, not digital assets. Sanctions angle: OFAC's Oct 8 Iran designations carried no crypto addresses; UK sanctioned six A7-linked payment entities Oct 9; FinCEN's A7A5 alert (≥$179B via 180+ entities, 83 countries) stands. Russia: MOEX ruble perpetuals live, crypto foreign-trade settlement legal — and GL-135 reduces the marginal need for a crypto oil-settlement rail, which is the quiet de-escalation signal in the sanctions-evasion story.

Institutional flows

Spot BTC ETFs: Friday +$21.1M (IBIT +$22.4M, FBTC −$3.6M, HODL +$2.3M) ended a two-day −$729M run; week −$681M — the worst since the week of June 26 (−$1.79B) and the end of a three-week inflow streak; Wednesday −$487M was the damage. 2026 YTD net +$494M (from +$1.18B a week earlier); cumulative since launch $57.11B; net assets $105.84B. October MTD −$386M with IBIT the only large fund positive (+$355M MTD) while FBTC (−$412M MTD) and ARKB (−$215M) are the sellers — directional advisor-channel de-risking, not basis unwind: CME leveraged funds net short 6,852 unchanged, asset managers net long 3,532. ETH ETFs −$542M w/w, net assets $15.71B (−10%). SOL ETFs −$24.8M, first outflow week in 15. Combined crypto ETF outflow last week ≈ $1.25B. Strategy's Monday 8-K window: last disclosed 848k+ BTC, mNAV premium gone — a small buy is the base case, a pause would be the first since the war began. Thursday's Deribit expiry ($1.25B BTC / $247M ETH) and Friday's +4.0% difficulty retarget are the week's structural events.

War impact on crypto

Digital gold or tech proxy? Tech proxy, with the evidence now four weekends deep. Since Feb 27: BTC +26.9%, gold −19.6%, S&P +13.6% — crypto has beaten both over the war and lagged on every escalation day the equity market was open. This weekend's escalation (Riyadh four waves, three mine strikes, two tanker fires, two missing seafarers) produced +0.8% in a $1,400 range with a Fear & Greed reading that fell three points. Gold's Friday +1.5% was the haven move; BTC's +0.8% matched it in sign only. BTC vs gold during the conflict: BTC/gold ratio 19.9 oz (from ~12.6 pre-war) — the ratio has risen because gold fell from its January peak, not because BTC was bought as a haven. ETF flows during escalation/de-escalation: the Oct 1–8 escalation cluster drew −$729M over two days; the Oct 8 pledge drew +$21M Friday; the weekend's re-escalation will print in Monday's flows — the test is whether IBIT's marginal bid survives a Yemen decision. Decoupling or correlating: 0.68 to Nasdaq, 0.45 to gold — correlating with equities, with the weekend's flat tape the correlation expressed by omission. Stablecoins as capital-flight proxy: USDT $184.05B (−$2M d/d, +$165M w/w, +$702M m/m); USDC $73.09B (+$110M d/d, −$1.10B w/w, −$1.24B m/m); USDS $7.02B, USDe $4.76B, DAI $4.75B. Offshore dollar growing, onshore regulated dollar draining — the signature of institutions leaving US crypto rails while EM/sanctioned-jurisdiction USDT demand persists; not a US capital-flight signature. Country-level adoption: Iran's Nobitex degraded with flows migrating to Russian sub-agents (A7A5); IRGC Hormuz tolls quoted in yuan or crypto (Chainalysis); Russia's legal crypto foreign-trade settlement now partly displaced by GL-135's licensed dollar channel; Thailand's ETF rules Oct 16 are the week's only positive adoption event. Mining: hash rate 1,016 EH/s current, 3-day averages 916 → 961 → 1,025 EH/s — fully recovered from the early-October trough; difficulty 132.72T, retarget Friday ~19:00 UTC at +4.0%; Henry Hub $3.18 is not the constraint, HPC-conversion economics are; MARA and CleanSpark remain structural sellers. DeFi TVL: DefiLlama's chain-TVL endpoint returned stale data at compile; Friday's $92.26B (wk −4.5%, price-driven, no stress-withdrawal signature) is carried. Historical: Russia–Ukraine Feb 24, 2022 — BTC −7.2% on the day, +30% in five weeks, −60% over the Fed cycle; the lesson holds: geopolitical dips get bought, hiking cycles get sold. Bitcoin's war is with the 2Y at 4.80% and with Nasdaq's denominator, not with Tehran or Sanaa.

G Conviction Views & Trade Ideas

① 2s10s flattener (long 10Y / short 2Y, DV01-neutral)HIGH

Thesis unchanged and the weekend reinforced it: a Fed hiking into record-low current conditions with payrolls at +29k is a flattener machine, and every new war-cost line (Yemen strike package, interceptor replenishment) is financed at the front end — bills and 2Y supply, not 30Y. The 2Y is pinned to December hike odds (73–74%) and Waller's "additional hikes"; the 10Y has a proven foreign bid (80.3% / 72.3% indirect) and now three disinflationary supply headlines (GL-135, energy ceasefire, SPR) that cap the energy input to the long end's inflation premium. Hot CPI Wednesday → 2Y +10–15bp, 10Y +5bp (flattener wins); soft CPI → both rally, 2Y more (flattener loses 3–5bp). Asymmetric because the Fed's reaction function is asymmetric.

Entry +44bp · target +25bp by FOMC Oct 28 · stop +60bp (bear-steepening on a failed 20Y Oct 21 or official selling in Friday's TIC). R/R ≈ 1.3:1 on the spread, probability-weighted 65/35. Levels: 2Y 4.90% / 4.70%; 10Y 5.37% (Wed high) / 5.15%. Note: no cash market Monday — express in futures (TU/TY) or wait for Tuesday's open.

② Long gold, scale $4,100–4,200; prefer gold over silverMEDIUM

Managed money cleaned out (net long 110,987, −9,331 w/w), official sector buying at the fastest pace of the cycle (PBoC +21t in September, 23rd month; Poland 98t YTD; BoK a new GLD holder), Europe's first positive ETF quarter since 2021, LBMA delegates at $5,000, and the stagflation quadrant (38%) is where gold's monetary bid beats the real-yield headwind. Friday's +1.5% on a flat dollar and flat 30Y was the first day gold rose without a yield excuse since Sept 30; it now sits at the $4,180–4,200 resistance band with Sunday's Asia print unretrieved. Against: a hot CPI pushes real yields up first; Goldman's $90 Brent call removes the energy-inflation prop. Silver: positioning best since 2024 but DB's "peak scarcity over" and India's import-tax change mean G/S can hit 72 before it turns — express in gold until it fails at 72.

Entry $4,150–4,200 · stop $3,940 (below the $4,066 low and the $4,000 round) · T1 $4,540 (200-DMA zone, unverified) · T2 $4,800. R/R 1.5:1 to T1, 2.6:1 to T2. A break above $4,200 on Monday's Asia/London session confirms the haven bid the weekend should have produced.

③ Long defense (RTX / LMT / ITA) into the Yemen decisionMEDIUM UPGRADED CATALYST

The weekend's only unambiguous earnings positive got a fourth wave: Riyadh airport struck again Sunday, Saree declaring every Saudi airport a "theatre of operations," Trump "looking at it" with an MBS call pending, Saudi interceptor stocks reportedly low and requests out to four countries, US stocks "dwindling," $6.3B SM-3 IB multi-year in hand, PAC-3 Edge, the Saudi–Pakistan–Turkey pact operational. NOC sits near its 52-week low ($470–774 range) into Oct 20 earnings; ITA −0.55% on the week into a weekend that raised the group's order book twice. The Nov 3 pledge does not cover Yemen — a US campaign there is a replenishment catalyst without a de-escalation offset. Europe: Rheinmetall at €939 (52-wk low €900) is the same trade with an EU-sanctions tailwind Monday and an energy-ceasefire headwind if Moscow confirms.

Entry Mon open · stop: Trump explicitly rules out US participation in Yemen strikes AND Iran's reply accepts sequencing (both needed) · target ITA +8–10% by BA earnings Oct 27. Catalysts: RTX/NOC Oct 20, LMT Oct 22, BA Oct 27, GD Oct 28–30, supplemental in the lame duck. R/R ≈ 2:1.

④ Underweight SOX / overweight equal-weight & Dow into TSMC (Thu)MEDIUM

SOX −4.3% on the week with no Friday bounce; Apple's component orders cut 15–20%; NVDA ~25x forward; KOSPI −5.4% w/w as the global AI-beta tell; the group carried ~80% of the index's YTD gain into a 29.5% EPS bar at a 5.24% discount rate; Hormuz carries ~30% of semiconductor-grade helium and zero tankers transited Sat–Sun. Against: TSMC's Q3 revenue +50% beat its own guide, net profit seen +64%, OpenAI telling investors ≥$70B annualized revenue — the stop is a strong Q4 guide and that is a real risk. This is a relative trade, not an index short: the week's rotation says the index can hold while leadership changes.

Express: short SOX / long RSP or DIA 1:1 notional, or long SPX / short NDX. Stop: SOX >13,100 (recovers Thursday's gap) or a TSMC Q4 guide above +15% q/q. Target SOX 11,800 (−6%), spread +5%. R/R ≈ 1.5:1; catalysts dense (banks Tue–Wed, ASML Wed, TSMC Thu, NFLX Oct 20, hyperscalers Oct 28–29).

⑤ BTC: tactical range — sell $85.5–87K, buy $75–77K; no position in betweenMEDIUM

The weekly close at ~$83,000 held $82,500 — bias stays neutral, not long. Triple top at $87K, $84–85K LTH supply overhead, ETF outflows (−$681M w/w, the worst since June) with the CME basis trade intact (leveraged-fund short unchanged — real spot selling), 0.68 Nasdaq correlation into a CPI/TSMC week, Fed hiking, Fear & Greed in "Greed" on a −5% YTD asset. Against: STH capitulation Thursday, whales +15k BTC in 72h, funding flat, $81K bid cluster, October seasonality (+18.7% average since 2013). The edges are tradable; the middle is noise. Monday's equity-only US session is the first joint tape with Nasdaq since Thursday — a BTC that cannot hold $83K with Nasdaq up is a sell signal into $85K; one that reclaims $84.5K on a Nasdaq down day is the first decoupling evidence of the war.

Short entry $85,500–87,100 · stop $88,500 · target $80,000 (R/R 2.5:1). Long entry $75,000–77,200 · stop $71,000 · target $85,000 (R/R 2:1). ETH: avoid — nine ETF outflow days, net assets −10% w/w, 0.0303 ETH/BTC with no bid; a close above $2,600 is the first signal to revisit.

⑥ Long Brent Dec $110/$125 call spreads — second-front / post-midterm optionMEDIUM

The Riyadh attacks plus Trump's "we'll find out" keep a US–Houthi front live; Sunday's three mine strikes and the Sohar drone attack extend Iranian enforcement beyond the strait; Hormuz tanker transits printed zero on both weekend days; the Houthis have told Aramco workers to leave facilities. Against — and this is why it is a spread, not a futures long: Goldman cut the risk premium to "just over $20" and set December at $90, the energy ceasefire and GL-135 cap the distillate crack, the SPR exchange and Gulf restart add crude at the margin, and Brent faded $2 from the Globex open in two hours. The bull case is binary (a strike on Abqaiq/Ras Tanura/Yanbu, a US-crewed vessel hit, the pledge window closing Nov 3); the bear case is a grind. Own the binary, pay for it with the upper strike.

Dec Brent $110/$125 call spread · premium budget ≤1.5% of notional · exit on a confirmed Hormuz sequencing deal or a Goldman-style $90 print realized (Brent <$95 spot). Max payoff ~4:1 at $125. Pre-war baseline $72.48; current premium $31–33.

⑦ Short EUR/USD on rallies to 1.13 — fiscal-split tradeLOW

Monday formalizes the EU–US split on Russian diesel (1,646 listings adopted while Washington licenses Russian distillate), Moody's reviews France Oct 23 with OATs at 2002 highs, the ECB meets Oct 29 with Lagarde in Bangkok this week, and a Russia–Ukraine energy ceasefire — if real — removes the European-energy tail that EUR bulls were leaning on. Against: DXY cannot rally on 5.24% yields (the fiscal discount), EUR is at a 17-month low already, and a hot US CPI that fails to lift the dollar flips this trade. Low conviction, defined risk.

Sell 1.1280–1.1320 · stop 1.1400 · target 1.1160 (Oct 5 low) then 1.1050. R/R ≈ 1.5:1. Invalidation: DXY fails 102.50 after a 0.6% CPI print.

H Risk Radar

Tail risk 1 — The long end loses its floor: CPI 0.6%/0.3% core (Wed) + official foreign selling in August TIC (Fri) + a US Yemen strike package with no supplemental

Three independent events in one week that each remove a leg of the 5.24% floor: energy-driven CPI re-acceleration confirms the hike, TIC official selling removes the auction bid, an unbudgeted second front adds war cost at the margin. Probability all three land this week: ~12%. Impact: 10Y 5.45–5.60%, MOVE >125, SKEW's tail becomes the index's problem, S&P −5 to −8%, BTC −12 to −15% on the Nasdaq beta. Monday's holiday means the first print on the weekend's news is Tuesday's open — a gap, not a drift. Hedge: the flattener (trade ①) loses on bear-steepening, so pair it with a 10Y put spread or the Brent call spread (⑥), which pays in the same scenario.

Tail risk 2 — Houthi strike on Saudi oil infrastructure (Abqaiq / Ras Tanura / Yanbu / East-West pipeline) after a US or Saudi response

The Houthis have warned Aramco workers to leave facilities, declared all Saudi airports a theatre of operations, and struck Riyadh four times in 48 hours; Saudi interceptors are reportedly low; the East-West pipeline (the Hormuz bypass, 5.8M bpd) was already shut Sept 11–22 by Iraqi-militia drones. Abqaiq 2019 took 5.7M bpd offline and moved Brent +14.6% in a day. Probability within 30 days: 30% (unchanged). Impact: Brent $120–135 (Citi $150 tail), gold/oil ratio falls further, airlines −15%, refiners +15%, defense +8–15%, 10Y two-way (fiscal/inflation first, haven second). This is the event that turns the gold/oil ratio and the quadrant label in the same session.

Tail risk 3 — AI denominator cracks: TSMC Q4 guide (Thu) disappoints into a 29.5% EPS bar

SOX −4.3% on the week after a +50% TSMC revenue print; Apple cut iPhone 18 Pro orders 15–20%; NVDA at ~25x; hyperscaler capex ~$725B for 2026 against "circular" deals of ~$1T; KOSPI −5.4% w/w; helium supply through Hormuz at ~30% of semiconductor grade with zero tanker transits. A Q4 guide below +10% q/q or a margin comment on power/helium costs takes SOX to 11,800 and the index to 7,600 even with banks beating. Probability: 25%. Hedge: trade ④ is the direct expression; the Dow/equal-weight overweight is the offset.

What would change the base case

Base case: pledge holds to Nov 3, Hormuz impaired (5% throughput), Yemen contained or a limited US strike package, Fed hikes Dec 9, 10Y 5.10–5.35%, S&P 7,600–7,850 on rotation, Brent $98–110, gold $4,100–4,350, BTC $77–85K. Bullish change: Russia confirms the energy ceasefire and the Faisal–Araghchi channel produces a Hormuz sequencing framework (Brent <$95, 10Y <5.00%, SOX leads a new high, EUR 1.13+). Bearish change: Monday's MBS call ends with a US strike package announced Monday–Tuesday with no supplemental and Wednesday's CPI prints 0.6%/0.3% (K3 flips to 4+ RED; the long end gaps). Fed change: Warsh says "patience" Thursday 11:30pm ET — the 2Y rallies 15bp, the flattener loses, gold and SOX win; the opposite ("the job is not done") confirms December and the flattener.

Black swans — peripheral vision

Carrier incident. The IRGC's "We are waiting" post targets the Theodore Roosevelt CSG en route (arrival late November); a mine or drone strike on a US hull is the pledge-break the market has no price for. Liaowang-1's 6,000 km sensor bubble is the enabler.
Taiwan opportunistic pressure. Lai's National Day warning after a maritime-militia sighting and the first F-16V deliveries; PLAN drills while the US has one carrier in CENTCOM and two in transit; APEC Shenzhen Nov 18–19 is the diplomatic ceiling on this risk until then.
Russia second front. If Moscow refuses the energy ceasefire it never agreed to and surges on Kharkiv/Odesa while holding GL-135, Trump owns a Russian-diesel policy and a Ukrainian collapse simultaneously; TTF reprices, EUR breaks 1.11, European defense rips.
Treasury market plumbing. A 20Y reopening (Oct 21) that tails 3bp+ with indirect <60% after a TIC print showing official selling — the auction floor is the base case's load-bearing wall.
Stablecoin event. Blumenthal–Cantor deadline Oct 23 and the THORChain USDT-freeze allegation (unverified) — a Tether credibility shock with $184B in circulation is the crypto tail that correlates with nothing until it correlates with everything.
Israel Oct 27. Ch.12's "large-scale attack within three weeks" sits inside the election window and outside the US pledge; an Israeli strike on Iran before Nov 3 is the escalation the US pledge cannot bind.

Central banks (PBoC / CBR): PBoC +21t in September (SAFE, Oct 7 — largest monthly add in three years), 23rd straight month, to ~2,408t (9% of reserves). WGC August: global net +39t; Poland +8t (648t; 98t YTD vs 700t target), Uzbekistan +8t, Kazakhstan +7t, Turkey +3t, Czech +2t; sellers Russia −6t (−56t YTD), Jordan −3t; global YTD 170t. Bank of Russia: monetary gold $301.6B of $731.8B reserves at Sept 30 (2,283t at Q2, −21.8t q/q) — the CBR is a net seller funding the budget; the de-dollarization bid is Chinese and Central Asian, not Russian — and GL-135 now gives Moscow a licensed dollar channel that reduces its need to sell gold at all. Read: GLD redeemed ~2.8M shares Oct 8–9 (≈ −8t) while AUM rose on price and IAU and European ETFs held — US advisor channel trimming, official and non-US channels buying. Holder base rotated from macro funds to banks and the official sector between Q1 and Q3: stickier base, lower price. The Nov 16 13F will show whether Q3's European-led inflows were banks or allocators.

Oil leverage intact: Brent +45% over pre-war with zero Iranian exports; freight 25–30% of Gulf crude cost; zero tanker transits on the weekend. Weakness: the civilian track is talking to Riyadh (Faisal–Araghchi) while the IRGC mines the strait — the Supreme Leader's office has not arbitrated.
War cost tracker	Pentagon $43.6B through Sept 3 (BGov; CNN/UPI $45.1B); CBO $38B through Aug 1 (>half munitions), run-rate $2–3B/month (~$65–100M/day), excludes base damage and veterans' care; CBO: war adds ~0.5pp to early-2027 inflation. Iran's own damage estimate ~$270B (May). Regime prioritizing control: Majlis vs Araghchi, hardliners urging a first strike inside "three golden weeks," Rezaei's "no return to status quo ante." Houthi cost: 91 killed in five weeks per their own ministry; Yemeni government claims >900 — the Houthi front is absorbing Saudi ordnance Iran would otherwise face.

Oct 10 (Sat): KKIA missile strike 12 dead incl. 1 American, 309 injured; Dammam projectile; Trump "We may… we move very quickly"; DOE SPR exchange 4M bbl (XOM/BP); Putin conveyed Iran's view to Trump (Kremlin); supertanker mine strike, UKMTO projectile hit, 22 crew rescued; Trump to Zelensky: "better damn well stop" hitting refineries; Yug Rusi terminal fire (Rostov); Bloomberg: Russia supplying missiles to Iran via Caspian; Israel struck Hermel; Pentagon toll 21/865; Isaias landfall aftermath (4 dead, ~940k peak outages).

K2 — Stock Market War Impact

Beneficiaries (Fri Oct 9 close, pre-Riyadh; Monday is the first session on the weekend): Defense — RTX $185.97 (+0.90%, wk +0.70%, YTD +1.4%), GD $331.27 (+0.90%), BA $190.37 (+1.40%, YTD −13.5%), LMT $509.59 (+0.33%, YTD +5.5%), LHX $237.04 (YTD −19.3%), NOC $480.72 (−0.78%, YTD −15.7%, 52-wk range $470–774 — at the low), HII $264.80 (YTD −22%), ITA $206.65 (+0.86%, wk −0.55%); PLTR $209.05 (wk +10.8%). Europe: Rheinmetall €939 (52-wk low €900), BAE 1,860p. The group has de-rated through the war — NOC/HII −16% to −22% YTD vs S&P +14% — into a weekend that added a fourth Riyadh strike, a Saudi interceptor shortage and a pending US decision: the replenishment cycle is the floor, Yemen is the catalyst the pledge does not block. Energy: XOM $168.94 (wk +3.0%; now an SPR borrower), CVX $211.98, OXY $60.11; tankers FRO $56.10 (wk +6.4%), DHT $24.64, STNG $85.14 — zero Hormuz tanker transits Sat–Sun keeps freight at records. Cybersecurity: CRWD $275.04 (+4.6% Fri), PANW $418.78 (+5.1%) — Rezaei's "cables, data centers, AI facilities" threat is the group's standing bid. Shipping/insurance: war-risk premium 30x peacetime (straits.live). HK/Shenzhen defense names (AVIC, CSSC): Friday moves not retrievable; Monday is the first HK session on Riyadh.

Sufferers: Airlines — DAL $82.17 (FY guide cut 25%; fuel +62% y/y), UAL $107.46 (wk −4.5%), AAL $12.76, JETS $27.45 (wk −2.5%); Riyadh closed through Monday with Lufthansa/SriLankan suspensions to Oct 16–18, Emirates/Etihad cancellations, a wider EASA zone and a Houthi "every aircraft is a target" warning — unguided revenue hits for Gulf-exposed carriers, and a jet-fuel crack that the Russian diesel deal does not fix. Consumer discretionary and small caps (Russell −0.9% w/w); EM importers (KOSPI −5.4% w/w, INR at record lows with RBI intervening); European chemicals/refiners if the energy ceasefire is real (lower crack) and European defense if it is not; Saudi equities held (TASI −0.15%, breadth 107/151, ANB −3.3%) — the regional market has priced the war. Telecoms (−8% to −13%, SpaceX spectrum — unrelated).

Historical pattern: Gulf War — S&P 368.95 (Jul 16, 1990) → 295.46 (Oct 11, 1990) = −19.9%, bottom 36 years ago yesterday, +20% after the Jan 17 air campaign; Iraq 2003 — 931.66 (Jan 14) → 800.73 (Mar 11) = −14.1%, +~30% rest of year once the outcome was clear; Libya 2011 — 1,343 → 1,257 (Feb 18–Mar 16) = −6.4%, most of it Japan. Markets fall on uncertainty, rally on commitment. Current: S&P +13.6% from the Feb 27 pre-war close (6,878.88), 0.1% from its record — the war has produced no index drawdown; the cost has been borne by sectors (airlines, consumer, EM, defense ironically), by HY credit (315bp) and by the bond market (10Y +~100bp since February). This is the first US conflict where the equity drawdown is zero and the Treasury drawdown is the war's market cost — which is why K3 matters more than K2, and why a second front financed without a supplemental is a rates event before it is an equity event.

K3 — Treasury Yield Spike Indicators (Traffic Light)

#	Indicator	Status	Reading (Mon Oct 12, 00:30 UTC)
1	War spending fiscal blowout	AMBER	Pentagon $43.6–45.1B cumulative; CBO run-rate $2–3B/month — under the $50B/quarter trigger. But: interceptor stocks "dwindling," Saudi reportedly short too, $6.3B SM-3 IB just signed, $32.4B unfunded replenishment, $67.1B DoD supplemental with no floor date, and Trump "looking at" a Yemen campaign after a fourth Riyadh strike. Flips RED on a US strike package for Yemen announced without a supplemental. Treasury Monthly Statement Tue 2pm prints FY2026 final.
2	CPI re-acceleration	RED	Aug +0.4% energy-driven (at threshold); Sept consensus +0.6% m/m (nowcast +0.53%); diesel $6.28, gasoline $4.37; UMich 1Y expectations 4.7%. RED into Wed. The weekend's supply trio (GL-135, energy ceasefire, SPR) caps October's print, not September's.
3	Term premium expansion	AMBER	ACM 10Y term premium ~0.98% (Oct 7) vs 0.89% Sept, 0.51% June — rising; Friday value unverified. 10Y TIPS 2.91%. Flips RED >1.10%.
4	Treasury auction demand	GREEN	10Y: 5.300%, 2.77x, 80.3% indirect (record). 30Y: 5.618%, 2.54x, 72.3% indirect. 3Y: indirect 57.6% — foreign demand weakest at the front end. Bills only this week; next test 20Y reopening Oct 21, 5Y TIPS Oct 22.
5	Foreign holder selling	RED	TIC July: Japan $1,103.9B (−$12.8B), China $618.0B (−$15.4B, 17-yr low); private foreigners sold $29.1B of notes/bonds, official bought $25.5B. August TIC Fri 4pm, cons +$125.7B — the first full war-financing month at 5%+. Russia holds negligible Treasuries; its channel is gold sales (−56t YTD) and now GL-135 dollars.
6	Fed rhetoric shift	GREEN	The opposite of tolerance: minutes "most" see another hike by YE; Waller "additional hikes"; Hammack (dissented for a hike in July) speaks Mon 12:10pm and Thu 4:30pm. Credibility intact. Warsh Thu 11:30pm ET is the first "patience" risk — that flips this to AMBER while helping the long end.
7	Fiscal deficit trajectory	RED	CBO FY2026 deficit $2.0T (6.2% GDP); interest ~$1.1T; 10Y 5.24% vs CBO's 4.3% assumption; debt $40.31T vs $41.1T ceiling (~$790B headroom → 2027); supplemental unpassed; FY27 request $1.5T; SPR being lent to oil majors rather than refilled. Tuesday's Monthly Statement is the hard print.
8	Credit rating watch	AMBER	Scope AA-/stable (Oct 2, "unsustainable medium-term fiscal path"); no Moody's/S&P/Fitch action. France (Moody's Aa3/Neg review Oct 23; OAT at 2002 highs) is the sovereign event of the month — a French downgrade helps Treasuries via the safest-sovereign bid. DBRS on Italy Fri.
9	2s10s curve	AMBER	+44bp, flattened from +54 at Wednesday's high; Friday's move front-end-led (hike-flattening). No cash print Monday; Tuesday's open on the weekend's news is the test. Flips RED above +55bp (bear-steepening on war-cost/fiscal pricing).
10	MOVE Index	AMBER	~114–116 (Oct 6: 116, highest since Apr 2025); Friday close unverified. Below 120 but diverging from VIX 14.8 and SKEW 154. Flips RED >120. First print on the weekend: Tuesday.

Summary traffic light

AMBER → 3 RED · 5 AMBER · 2 GREEN

Unchanged from the weekend edition in count, but indicator #1 is one headline from RED: a US Yemen strike package with no supplemental flips it and takes the board to 4 RED = yield-spike regime, in the same week as CPI (Wed) and TIC (Fri). The weekend's disinflationary supply trio (GL-135, energy ceasefire, SPR) is the offset on #2 for October, not September. Monday has no cash Treasury market — the weekend is priced first in Brent (faded), gold (pending), defense equities and Treasury futures; Tuesday's open is a gap, not a drift.

K4 — Commodity War Premium Analysis

Brent: Globex open $105.48 (+0.73%, Reuters 23:04 GMT) → ~$103.6 (−1.0%) by 00:10 UTC; Friday settle $104.72; pre-war $72.48 → war premium $31.1–33.0 (+43–46%); war peak ~$126 intraday Apr 30; dated Brent topped $135 Thursday (physical tightness far above futures). Sunday's open was the first print on Riyadh (four waves), three mine strikes and the Sohar drone attack; the fade was the energy-ceasefire post, Goldman's note (Dec $90 from $85; risk premium "just over $20"; "continued adaptation of Mideast supply will eventually reduce crude prices"; WTI $81 Dec / $73 2027 — WTI unusually weak vs Brent on US–Europe freight) and the SPR/Gulf-restart crude add. Week framing: bull ~$112 (Yemen strike package / Saudi infrastructure hit / US-crewed vessel), base $100–107, bear ~$95 (Moscow confirms the energy ceasefire + Faisal–Araghchi channel produces sequencing). Hormuz: TankerMap 0 tanker transits Oct 10 and Oct 11 (7 in 7 days, −22% w/w; 1/day average vs ~21/day pre-war on its own baseline); straits.live 4 commercial transits Oct 4 vs ~85/day pre-crisis, throughput ~5% of normal, ~110 vessels stranded, war-risk premium 30x; Kpler Oct 7: 7, Oct 8: 10 (commodity vessels); CENTCOM claims "22 million barrels in one night" (Oct 8) — the gap between CENTCOM's dark-transit count and AIS-visible tanker counts is the data dispute of the war. Crude via the strait ~10.1M bpd (74% of pre-war) per the weekend parse; bypass 6.7M bpd; Kuwait 2.0M bpd shuttle; Iraq ~3M bpd (unverified). Freight: VLCC Saudi–China >$1.3M/day, 25–30% of Gulf crude cost; US–China VLCC $41/bbl vs $4.50 a year ago. Bank targets: Goldman Dec $90 / >$120 Q4 only if Hormuz disruption persists / ~$75 2027; Morgan Stanley Q4 $100 / Q1'27 $95; Citi $150 tail; EIA STEO Q4 $105, 2026 $96, 2027 $84. Supply disruption duration: three Iranian clocks (civilian: Faisal–Araghchi, Pezeshkian "revised proposals"; IRGC: three mines in a day, Sohar reach; Houthi: Riyadh) plus one Russian clock (energy ceasefire: real or not) — EIA assumes constraints through Q4. Products: GL-135 (~22.5M bbl Russian diesel, 300k t "immediately," 1M t/month later; Ukraine says refinery strikes continue, Yug Rusi burned Saturday — the energy ceasefire, if Moscow confirms, is what makes the 1M t/month physically credible); IEA >200M bbl public diesel stocks; ULSD–Brent crack ≈$100/bbl; US distillate 105.1M bbl (1982 lows), East Coast −30% vs 5-yr; AAA diesel $6.28 (record $6.53 Sept 22), gasoline $4.37; Germany releasing up to 15M bbl under the G7 100M-bbl diesel program. OPEC MOMR Tue, IEA OMR Wed, EIA Thu, OPEC+ Nov 1.

Gold & silver safe-haven: Gold $4,194 spot / $4,216 Dec (Fri; Sunday Asia print unretrieved); 200-DMA desk estimate ~$4,500–4,550 → ~7–8% below (conflicting $4,183 daily-SMA print on the Dec contract flagged unverified — the gap decides whether gold is "8% below trend" or "at trend," and it matters for T1 on trade ②); −25% from the Jan 28–29 ATH; first weekly gain in three (+1.3%); Wed low $4,066 = the level to hold; resistance $4,180–4,200 now being tested. Gold/oil ratio 39.8 (vs ~75 pre-war) — still an energy shock, not a monetary one; Goldman's $90 Brent call would lift the ratio to ~46 mechanically, which is a gold-relative-outperformance signal even with gold flat. Gold/silver 69.1. Silver industrial (~58%) vs monetary: DB sees a 2027 surplus and ~40Moz of ETP release; investment demand is the swing (SLV +16.7M shares since Jun 30); India's import-tax change the marginal negative; LBMA delegates $97. COMEX silver registered: not retrievable (last 102.8Moz). Central banks: PBoC +21t in September (~2,408t; 23rd month), Poland 98t YTD, Uzbekistan/Kazakhstan adding, BoK a new GLD holder; Russia a net seller (−56t YTD) now with a licensed dollar channel. Verdict: official sector buying tonnage at the fastest pace of the cycle while managed money is at a cycle-low net long — a structural bid meeting an exhausted seller; Friday's +1.5% on a flat dollar was the first evidence; Monday's London fix on a Riyadh/Hormuz weekend is the second test. Gold is the haven that works in the stagflation quadrant (38%); it has not yet been needed in reflation.

Energy infrastructure damage tracker: Gulf: no confirmed strikes on Saudi/UAE/Kuwait/Qatar/Iraq oil facilities Oct 9–11 — the weekend's attacks were on Riyadh and Dammam airports and on shipping; the Houthi warning to Aramco workers and Saree's "theatre of operations" declaration are the forward indicators. Saudi East-West pipeline (7M bpd capacity): shut by the Sept 10–11 Iraqi-militia drone attacks, low-rate restart Sept 22, back to 5.8M bpd Oct 6 (Live Trading News) vs straits.live "Petroline 38%" — conflicting; ADCOP 100%, Goreh-Jask 40%. Riyadh KKIA: radar/comms damaged, runways under assessment, closed to midnight Mon. Vessels (Oct 9–11): NV Sunshine (LPG, Oct 9); unnamed supertanker mine strike + UKMTO projectile hit + 22 crew rescued (Oct 10); three mine strikes incl. a 750k-bbl shuttle tanker, MT Petro Dolphin (drone, Sohar, 2 missing), MT Valthera (projectile, fire) (Oct 11). Iran: exports zero, 95 mcm/day gas lost. Russia: suspected Ukrainian drone fire at Yug Rusi terminal (Rostov, 3.5Mt/yr) Saturday — hours before Trump declared the energy ceasefire; Dallas Fed: Ukrainian strikes cut Russian refining capacity up to 60% over the summer. Gulf of Mexico (Isaias): Cat-2 landfall near Destin Fri; 4 dead; ~940k peak outages; shut-in last reported 1.46M b/d oil (71.5%) / 1.26 Bcf/d gas (58.8%), 129 platforms evacuated; Shell/Chevron/BP redeploying crews (Reuters Sun); refineries spared (Pascagoula 356k b/d no run cuts); DOE: 4M-bbl SPR exchange to XOM/BP to bridge crude supply; projected loss ~7M bbl; restart within days absent damage.

K5 — War Impact on Bitcoin & Crypto Markets

Escalation vs de-escalation: The Oct 1–8 escalation cluster took BTC from $86.6K to $80,350; the Oct 8 pledge produced a bounce to $82.5K that lagged gold (+1.5%) and matched Nasdaq (+0.6%). The weekend's re-escalation — Riyadh four waves, three mines, two tanker fires, two missing seafarers, a carrier threat — produced +0.8% to $83,570 in a $1,400 range with Fear & Greed falling to 61. Since Feb 27: BTC +26.9%, gold −19.6%, S&P +13.6% — crypto has outperformed over the war and underperformed on every escalation day the equity market was open. 30-day correlations: BTC–Nasdaq 0.68, BTC–S&P 0.63, BTC–gold 0.45, BTC–10Y −0.37, BTC–DXY −0.23. Verdict: risk-on tech proxy with a gold tilt; the weekend's firm-but-flat tape with the reference index closed is the correlation expressed by omission. Monday — Nasdaq open, Treasuries closed — is the first clean joint session since Thursday.

Sanctions evasion: No OFAC crypto designations Oct 9–11; the Oct 8 Iran package (17 vessels / 17 companies) carried no addresses; Bessent's "$1B Iran-linked seizure" has not materialized. FinCEN A7A5 alert (≥$179B via 180+ entities, 435 FIs, 83 countries, CBI/IRGC usage) stands; UK sanctioned Xeltox/Cryptomus/Heleket, TokenSpot, Processing KG/VexPay, Tsunami Payments Oct 9. Senate PSI: 84% of 846 Iran-linked wallets USDT-only; Blumenthal–Cantor letter reply due Oct 23. Chainalysis: IRGC Hormuz tolls (~$1/bbl) in yuan or crypto. Nobitex degraded; flows migrated to Russian sub-agents. Russia angle: MOEX ruble perpetuals live; crypto foreign-trade settlement legal; no new oil-settlement pilot — and GL-135 plus a declared energy ceasefire reduce the marginal need for a crypto rail: the sanctions-evasion story is being displaced by licensed dollars, which is itself the market signal. China angle: no new e-CNY/mBridge data this week; PBoC's gold buying is the de-dollarization channel, not stablecoins.

Stablecoin market cap (capital-flight proxy): USDT $184.05B (−$2M d/d, +$165M/7d, +$702M/30d); USDC $73.09B (+$110M d/d, −$1.10B/7d, −$1.24B/30d); USDS $7.02B, USDe $4.76B, DAI $4.75B (DefiLlama, Mon 00:10 UTC). Offshore dollar growing, onshore regulated dollar draining — consistent with institutions de-risking out of US crypto rails while EM/sanctioned demand for USDT persists; the opposite of a US-centric capital-flight signature. Mining: hash rate 1,016 EH/s current; 3-day averages 916 → 961 → 1,025 EH/s — recovered from the early-October trough; difficulty 132.72T, retarget Fri ~19:00 UTC at +4.0%; hashprice ~$39.5/PH/day. Henry Hub $3.18 is not the constraint; grid-power pricing and HPC conversion are. MARA (−34% YTD holdings) and CleanSpark remain structural sellers. DeFi TVL: endpoint stale at compile; Friday $92.26B (wk −4.5%, price-driven, no stress-withdrawal signature) carried. Historical: Russia–Ukraine Feb 24, 2022 — BTC −7.2% on the day, +30% in five weeks, −60% over the Fed cycle; Oct 10, 2025 — $19B liquidated on a tariff headline, bottom within 48 hours. Geopolitical dips get bought, hiking cycles get sold. Bitcoin's war is with the 2Y (4.80%) and Nasdaq's denominator, not with Tehran or Sanaa.

K6 — Great-Power Posture & Alignment Scoreboard

Axis	This week	Signal	Market implication
China → Iran	Supportive (quiet)	Liaowang-1 + Type 055/052D in the Gulf of Oman (6,000 km sensor bubble, BeiDou access, 500+ satellite intel feed per DIE/DSA); silent on Riyadh; PBoC fix 640 pips firmer, +21t gold; no public PLAN hull positions this week (USNI tracker due Mon). Hormuz tolls in yuan.	Long gold, long commodities; CNY defended (6.69); HK defense names first session on Riyadh Mon. Taiwan Strait is the pressure valve to watch while US has one carrier in CENTCOM.
Russia → Iran	Supportive (material)	Bloomberg Oct 10: missiles via the Caspian; Putin relays Iran's position to Trump; HEU-to-Russia offer; no RFS hull positions in the Arabian Sea confirmed this week (last: Stoikiy PASSEX Feb; Varyag deployments unverified).	Long defense (US + European); long gold; the "mediator" who arms one side is a premium on Brent calls (⑥).
Russia ↔ US	Talking (transactional)	GL-135 diesel license (to Apr 7 2027); Trump–Putin Oct 9; Trump declares energy ceasefire Oct 11 — Kremlin silent, Zelensky "news for me"; Trump tells Zelensky to stop refinery strikes and find a successor; Bessent: Iran "biggest loser."	If Moscow confirms: TTF down, distillate crack narrows, EUR mixed (peace dividend vs. policy split), European defense down. If not: Trump owns a Russian-diesel policy and an unconfirmed ceasefire — EUR down, European defense up, Brent calls up.
China ↔ US	Trade-war détente, strategic silence	APEC Shenzhen Nov 18–19; Shelton as Treasury currency counselor (China focus); EU–China halved Chinese PHEV exports; Lai's National Day warning; first F-16V Block 70 deliveries; China Sept credit Mon, trade Wed, Q3 GDP Oct 19.	SOX helium/supply tail; copper $6.66–6.76 near record; CNY −4.1% YTD is the strongest major vs USD — Beijing is choosing currency strength while buying gold.
Saudi ↔ Iran	Talking (new)	Faisal bin Farhan–Araghchi call Sun — first public contact since the Houthi escalation, hours after Riyadh was struck a fourth time; Saudi coalition simultaneously vows "decisive response" and claims 1,732 strikes.	The only new de-escalation channel of the weekend; a Saudi–Iran line that outlives a US Yemen strike is the base case's best friend. TASI −0.15% says the local market expects it to hold.

Naval tracker: USNI Fleet Tracker Oct 5 (next due Oct 12) names no Chinese or Russian hulls; PLAN/RFS positions this week are OSINT-dependent and not independently verified at compile. The Theodore Roosevelt CSG's westward Pacific transit (CG Chosin, DDGs Paul Hamilton, Decatur, Carl M. Levin) toward a late-November CENTCOM arrival is the one confirmed great-power naval movement of the week.

Ceasefire probability 27% by year-end (from 28%) — signals to watch: whether the Faisal–Araghchi call becomes a channel (the first direct Saudi–Iran de-escalation contact since the Houthi front opened, and it happened on the day Riyadh was struck a fourth time — that is a regime that wants an off-ramp from its proxy's success); Iran's formal reply (Araghchi "within days," now routed via Moscow with the HEU transfer as face-saver); Trump's response to what Putin relayed; the Oct 18 Majlis vote on Akhlaghi; Trump's "will end, one way or the other, very soon." Against: Rezaei's "INADEQUATE… no return to the status quo ante" is the most explicit rejection yet from the SNSC; three mine strikes in one day is the IRGC voting; the Houthis are winning on the ground by their own account and Riyadh's airport is closed. Down one point: the civilian track opened a door the IRGC track is mining.

Escalation probability 12% inside the pledge window (unchanged), 40% after (unchanged), 50% for a US Yemen strike package within two weeks (from 45%) — triggers: the Trump–MBS call outcome (Mon–Tue); a US-flagged or US-crewed vessel hit (Sohar anchorage is now in range; two Indian seafarers are missing); a Houthi strike on Abqaiq/Ras Tanura/Yanbu after the coalition's "decisive response"; a mass-casualty event at a US base or embassy; an Israeli strike inside the Ch.12 three-week window; an IRGC move on the Roosevelt in transit. The asymmetry stands: a US strike on Yemen is not a pledge break and is the lowest-cost political escalation available — which is why it is the most likely one and the one no market quotes.

Diplomatic channels: Russia — message-carrier, arms supplier (Bloomberg), diesel licensee, and now the counterparty to an energy ceasefire it has not confirmed; APEC Shenzhen Nov 18–19 is the stage. Saudi–Iran — Faisal–Araghchi, new. Qatar — carried the US response to Iran's seven conditions; condemned Riyadh. Oman — hosting Sohar's wounded; Iran–Oman Hormuz market at 35%. Pakistan — forces in KSA, mediator role souring in Tehran. UN — Guterres condemned Riyadh; UNSC seized of the Houthi attacks, not of Hormuz; Grundberg: regional peace efforts threatened. China — silent, buying gold. EU — von der Leyen "spiral of violence"; 1,646 Russia listings Monday against Washington's GL-135. Third-party intervention probability (China or Russia from diplomatic to material support): Russia is already there on arms (Bloomberg) — 25% that it becomes overt (joint drills, convoy escort, open S-400 transfer) by year-end; China 10% (naval escort of Chinese tankers through Hormuz is the most likely form). Market impact of either: long Brent calls, long gold, short duration at the long end, long defense, short airlines/semis.
