A · Executive Summary — "The Big Picture"

Regime: Late-cycle stagflation-lite. Core PCE at 3.3% YoY with GDPNow tracking Q2 at just 1.5%, alongside NFP softening to +57K. This is the textbook policy trap.

Cycle: Late-cycle, tipping toward mild recession — labor market has broken (participation at 61.5%, lowest since March 2021), yet inflation refuses to converge to target. The "beautiful deleveraging" is failing: fiscal deficit is ballooning from war supplemental spending, Treasury issuance is flooding the long end, and the 30Y yield sits at 5.21% — highest since 2007.

Warsh Fed: Held rates at 3.50–3.75% for the fifth straight meeting on July 29. Vote was 9-3 with Hammack, Kashkari, Logan dissenting for hikes — first time since 2016 three officials aligned hawkish. Warsh's "regime change" rhetoric is bond-negative and USD-supportive medium term but has not stopped the term premium blowout.

Key tension: Equities ripped +1.7% Thursday on Microsoft AI capex; bonds sold off; gold at $4,080 within striking distance of $5,597 all-time high; BTC drifting near $64,800 with $5.4B YTD ETF outflows. Cross-asset divergence at extremes.

What the market is NOT pricing: (1) A sustained 30Y above 5.5% would break the equity narrative. (2) A Strait of Hormuz closure lasting >90 days pushes Brent to $130+ base case (Goldman). (3) The Fed's willingness to hike if core CPI prints a third consecutive 0.3%+ MoM.

C · Cross-Asset Analysis — Druckenmiller Lens

Bond vs. Equity Divergence — Extreme. S&P at 7,437 while 30Y prints 5.21% is the widest bond-equity dislocation since 2007. Historically this resolves via equity multiple compression, not bond rally. Equity risk premium is negative when adjusted for real rates.

Safe-Haven Bid — Selective. Gold is the pure safe haven ($4,082, near ATH). Treasuries have lost that status — the 30Y bond is now a risk asset in a fiscal-dominance regime. Bitcoin acting as risk-on tech proxy, not digital gold, during this war escalation.

Liquidity — Contracting. Global CB balance sheets flat/declining. RRP drained. TGA rebuilding. Treasury issuance surging to finance war supplemental. USD funding conditions tight despite DXY consolidation. Watch USD/JPY 163 — that level historically triggers Asian de-risking.

Dollar Regime. DXY at 101 is weaker than fundamentals justify given 5%+ real yields at the long end. This is the market saying: fiscal deterioration + Warsh policy uncertainty = structural dollar debasement bid for gold/silver/BTC.

D · Scenario Matrix — Dalio All-Weather

▲ Growth · ▲ Inflation CURRENT

Winners: Commodities, Gold, TIPS, Energy, Defense

Losers: Long-duration bonds, Growth tech, EM debt

We are here — trending toward quadrant SW (falling growth + rising inflation = stagflation).

▲ Growth · ▼ Inflation (Goldilocks)

Winners: Equities broadly, Credit, EM

Losers: Gold, USD haven bid

Requires Iran de-escalation + core PCE break below 2.7%.

▼ Growth · ▲ Inflation (Stagflation)

Winners: Gold, Silver, Energy, Defensive dividend, Cash

Losers: Equities, Corp credit, Consumer discretionary

Highest probability trajectory · 45% weight.

▼ Growth · ▼ Inflation (Recession)

Winners: Long UST (finally), Quality equities, USD

Losers: Commodities, HY credit, Cyclicals

Requires Fed cuts of 200+ bps; Warsh unlikely absent labor collapse.

E · Sector & Theme Spotlight

1. Defense/Aerospace — Momentum. RTX record backlog $289B, LMT expanded THAAD production, Operation Epic Fury deploying F-35s. Trump proposing $1.5T defense budget for FY27. This is a multi-year secular re-rating, not a war-trade blip.

2. Silver — Inflection. Silver above $58 with Jane Street holding $1.3B+ SLV position (20.7M shares, largest holder over BlackRock). Industrial demand from AI datacenter buildout + monetary demand + gold/silver ratio compressing = asymmetric upside.

3. Contrarian (Howard Marks 2nd-Level): Long-duration Treasuries. Consensus is 30Y goes to 6%. When everyone is short and MOVE is elevated, a Warsh dovish pivot on labor weakness = violent bond rally. Small position, big convex payoff.

4. Underperformer to avoid: Consumer discretionary. Real wages compressed, oil pass-through hitting gasoline, employment weakening. Airlines particularly exposed to war + fuel + weak consumer.

F · Crypto Deep Dive

Bitcoin & Ethereum

BTC at $64,838 is underperforming gold materially during the Iran war — up modestly YTD vs. gold +25%+ YTD. This validates that in acute geopolitical shock, BTC still trades as a risk-on tech proxy, not digital gold. ETH at $1,923 defending $1,900 support; ETH/BTC ratio at multi-year lows.

ETF Flow Signals

YTD net outflows across US spot BTC ETFs: -$5.4B (one of the worst institutional selloffs in ETF history)
Mid-July: 7-session inflow streak +$1B (IBIT captured 69.6%) triggered by CLARITY Act progress
Streak broke July 23-24 with -$465M combined outflows; IBIT lost 3,511 BTC that week
Rotation: FBTC gaining $166M while IBIT bleeds $40M = issuer rotation, not BTC exit

War Impact on Crypto

BTC vs Gold correlation during Iran war: Gold +25% YTD, BTC roughly flat. BTC has decoupled from gold entirely as safe haven.
BTC vs S&P correlation: Elevated (~0.55), confirming risk-on identity.
Stablecoins: USDT/USDC combined market cap has expanded ~8% during war period — proxy for capital flight from EM/sanctions-affected regions.
Sanctions evasion: Reports of increased on-chain flows via non-KYC exchanges from Iranian entities; enforcement lag.
Mining: Hash rate resilient despite Middle East energy price spike; miners hedged via long-dated PPAs.
Historical parallel (Ukraine 2022): BTC fell ~15% in first 30 days of invasion, recovered as risk-on rallied. Pattern repeating.

G · Conviction Views & Trade Ideas

HIGH CONVICTION

LONG Gold / GLD — Target $4,500 by Q4. Real yields peaking, fiscal dominance, war premium, central bank buying. Key level: $4,000 support, $4,300 resistance, blue sky above.
Risk/Reward: 3:1 · Stop $3,850.

LONG Defense Complex (LMT, RTX, NOC) — Multi-year re-rating. $1.5T FY27 budget proposal + active kinetic operations + record backlogs. RTX at $188, upside to $220. NOC oversold (-12% YTD) offers best asymmetry.
Risk/Reward: 2.5:1 · Position: 3-5% portfolio.

MEDIUM CONVICTION

LONG Silver / SLV — Squeeze setup. Jane Street $1.3B accumulation, industrial+monetary demand, gold/silver ratio at 70 vs. historical 55. Target $72. Key level: $58 breakout confirmed, $55 stop.

SHORT USD/JPY at 163 — BOJ intervention setup. MoF verbal escalating; 163 historically triggers physical intervention. Target 158. Stop 164.50.

LOW CONVICTION / SPECULATIVE

LONG 30Y UST via TLT calls (3M expiry). Contrarian. If NFP prints <30K next Friday, Warsh forced to pivot dovish; 30Y rallies 50-75 bps violently. Small notional, 5-10x payoff.

H · Risk Radar

Top 3 Tail Risks

Strait of Hormuz permanent closure: Tanker traffic already -90% YoY. If disruption extends past 90 days, Brent hits $130+, US CPI re-accelerates 1%+, Fed forced to hike into recession. Cascade to EM debt crisis.
Failed 30Y auction: Term premium at 15-year highs, bid-to-cover deteriorating. A tailed auction with dealer takedown >25% = liquidity event, MOVE spikes above 130, S&P -5% same day.
Warsh political interference perception: Trump has publicly demanded rate cuts. If Warsh cuts against inflation data, USD collapses, long-end yields blow out to 6%, gold to $5,000.

What Changes the Base Case

Iran ceasefire holds >30 days → risk-on, gold sells off, BTC to $75K
Core CPI prints third consecutive 0.3%+ → Fed hikes, equities -8%
NFP prints negative → Fed cuts, curve steepens further, gold to $4,500

Black Swan Peripheral

China-Taiwan escalation while US assets pinned in CENTCOM
Japan Rate Hike + JGB spike triggering yen carry unwind (Aug 2024 replay 10x scale)
